The conventional tamil song has a pallavi, followed by an interlude and then anupallavi and a charanam with an interlude in between. in most cases the anupallavi and charanam are similiar in tune. i want to be know those songs that differ from these norms. my assumption is that this might turn out to be a relatively shorter thread
but i might be wrong.....

I'll start with the folllowing songs:
1. sangeetha jaadhi mullai - kaadhal oviyam
the song takes a different turn right after the anupallavi and it ends with the words 'yagana pagana yagana pagana....' rendered zestfully by SPB.
2. maasilla nilave nam - ambikapathi
pallavi not the same as anupallavi not the same as charanam.
if this thread already exists or is strongly overlapping with another thread, Ravi, Pl. do the needful(:-))

RR,
if u take a song like pani vizhum , or en iniya pon nilaave the tunes for the 1st and second stanza are exactly the same. only the words are different. nothing to explain, simple fact.i feel that IR or MSV or whoever have always given similiar anupallavi and charanam. hence iam looking to find some songs in which they are different.

vijay,
similarity between 1st charanam & 2nd charanam
similarity between anupallavi & charanam
These two are different, I think you are talking about the first.

Yeah,
RR, you are right. The two charaNams are generally the same tune, with the different lyrics. However there are a lot of variations here. I would like to talk about this a little.
There are songs where the charanam ends with the anupallavi. Examples: Anjali, anjali pushpAnjali from Duet, Muthirai ippodhu kuthida thappadhu from Uzhaippaali and Kaadhal rojaave from Roja. IR has done a lot of songs with this pattern. Others may be able to give more examples.
One pattern which I have seen in a lot of ARR's songs is that the anupallavi and charaNam are very similar. The song sung by Yesudas in Indian stands out as an example of this type.
As for Vijay's query, where the 2 charanams are different, the song Devan thandha veenai from Unnai naan sandhithen(?) is one such example. In the song Vaa vaa vaa anbe vaa from velaikkaaran, the interlude and charanam are different from the first two in the percussion base.
