I feel ARR is paying more efforts with his Hindi albums, than Tamil, I was listening to ARR's "Pukar", there is a song by Latha Mangeshar, superb composition, his 12ka4, laagan were simply awesome, but his recent Tamil albums like Ali Arjuna , KM are just fair composition, while, ali arjuna had 12ka4, pukar tunes in it.
why is he doing this ??

Raghu,
Modulation in style of from C to F, or C to G is common, and when that happens, theres a sense of togetherness in the song. (Basically and usually, when u modulate, u try to stick to scales that have maximum common notes to ur first scale, and ur modulation starts on note thats common to both the scales).
But have u heard abt modulation like from Cm to a scale that has notes of Bm scale? Totally different scales, (not many common notes, and starting on a note not common to both scales.). But still u have that togetherness in the song. And such a composition, I would not call it as fair (as u called), but pretty good and intelligent. And it probably requires effort too. U get what I am saying??

Raghu,
i understand wat u mean in that there has been dissapointment in the tamil field, but i still feel KM was superb. i too, was not much impressed with AA though. with KM,i think a lot of ppl forget the purpose of the music. the majority of the songs were not even picturised in the standard song format, and were simply used as background music- also the topic of the film, had to be reflected in the music- but i do understand wat u are saying. fingers crossed, ARR, has a few tamil projects coming through this year, and it is beleived that now that Bombay Dreams is done, and the hindi music has been produced, he will come back and produce more in his native language.
thanx
take care

TLOBS is definitely a wonderful album.
I had listened it probably more that 50 times in last few days.
I like these kinds of period films and apt music for that. That is a real talent to score for a period film exactly as it should be and still have a modern flavour in it so that you can attract today's generation.
What ARA or any others couldn't do is what ARR had been doing so consistently.
Pity that he has not done that many period films in tamil excepting two ot three.
But, franky speaking, I have started recognising a pattern or formula in ARR's period film musics. That is wrong IMHO. We can very well know about it if ARR scores for few more Period films.
Formulas or patterns makes it predictable at times.

Raghu: You didn't disappoint me. As I expected, you don't have a clue about what Sam (To Raghu (@ 132.235.18.15)) talked about. Why should I be surprised? I should expect you to rave about the ordinary, made for the Hindi masses, Udit Narayan friendly Lagaan and call Kannaththil Muththamittaal "fair". That is because, you neither got the creativity in arranging different scales within the same song (as in 'oru dheivam thandha poovE') nor do you have the patience, humility, acumen to look for it (the creativity) even when a knowledgeable poster like Sam points it out to you.
KM is one of the best scores in recent times. True, the autorickshaw drivers and porters will not be whistling any of those tunes in the foreseeable future. But naamaLum adhEy level expectations Oda irundhaa, indha potti, keyboard, fast internet, newtfmpage, Sam's post, ellaam waste :-( inga post ezhudharadha vittuttu sevuththula poster adikkalaam. Atleast the kazhudhais will thank the 'poster' as opposed to some kazhudhais impersonating as bipeds trying to analyze 'karpoora vaasanai' :-)
BTW, Raghu we are all eagerly waiting to hear some of your recordings (yeah! those which you take only 30 mins to finish).

If I may ask, why should one not rave at the excellent songs and background music of Lagaan. Also what are the flaws in udit's renditions in lagaan.

I am a novice when it comes to technicalities of music.... maybe you didnt see anything "pathbreaking" in those songs (if thats what u meant). But the songs are no doubt please me immensely...BTW, I am no HCF-ARR. :-)
