One good reason i can say is, i came to know abt Bharathiyar Songs are great only after i hear the songs from the movies. Eventhough Bharathi's words are strong, it wont reach that depth when its not composed well.

You cannot clap with one hand. Similarly no song can become a hit with Music Director alone. You might say he plays a major role, but a music director can never be given sole credit for the song becoming a hit.

Izhukkudaya Paatukku Isai Nanru is the grand old saying in tamil.
The song, tune and the singer all three are important.
There are many songs tuned well and 'killed' by the same music directors by themselves singing it.
