Tune (Melody): MSV
Orchestration : IR
Arrangement/recording : ARR
Male Singer : SPB
Female Singer : Chitra
Male lead actor : Kamalahaasan
Female lead actress : Sridevi
Cinematography : Balu Mahendra

What is the difference between orchestration and arrangement ?

I believe orchestration is composing of the prelude/interludes. Arrangement could be to do with sound engineering.

I think IR can handle the melody(tune) also.Isn't he not a good produceer of melodies?
One thing for sure, he doens' concentrate is --quality of recording/ which need lots of improvements.

Regarding teh actor--I think it cannot be said that Kamal makes a better choice cos for e.g--song "nilaavae vaa.." Mouna ragam movie.
Mohan did a exceptional job.
I feel it is a more senistive area.

If you look into the recording aspects of Kaalapani, Guru, KM, KK... i.e. those of the recent ones, I feel it is really very good. Raja is a man of kaizen!

rajaG: Your list seems good (except KSC who does not have that great a track record with SPB as SJ and hence should be replaced with SJ), but who is going to direct the video?

I would rather have a solo by P Susheela composed by MSV, lyrics by Kannadasan/Vaali, starred by Savithri, in a black & white picturization, directed by Sridhar!

Kamal is the best to provide expressions and the only other person in the same class was Sivaji. But, since the singer is SPB and not TMS, I chose Kamal.

Oh yeah, and your choice of singers is EXCELLENT! Did you notice that everyone who differed with the opinion that KSC be replaced brought in their own FAVE:-)) Anyhow, KSC has many great duets with SPB...and she will do great, thank you very much:-)) Long live the 'chinnakuyil Chitra'!

My comments are suggested with the sole idea for improvement and absolutely not to belittle your efforts - no way! If everyone starts overlooking errors, how can the language become better? (BTW, the people in TN are no better in pronunciation!! You're by no means at a disadvantage!! I often hear Keralites complaining our pronunication of `la'garams! One guy even went to the extent telling that there's no `Zha' in Thamizh and it's an exclusive alphabet in Malayalam..all because most of the TN visitors to Malampuzha dam call it malampula!!)

Now to the topic:
How many great songs by SPB-KSC combo can you list? IMO, SPB-SJ combo's great songs will outnumber that by 10 times - easily!

It is not my pronounciation that's a problem. I speak tamil as well as any 'yaazh' tamil. It is only my literary knowledge.

It is not the number of songs that KSC has sung with SPB that is in the question. Anyhow, I had not said anything about Janaki's singing. It is more of my personal preference. And I have a grudge against these biased tamil MDs anyhow. But even if you pointed a gun at me I would still stick to KSC.

Digression: Did you listen to HariKrishnas songs. They are really nice if you like melody. Check it out sometime if you don't have them.

S. Janaki of the 80's? Why 80's? I think that she is still great. Arvindswamy of the Roja days was more appealing. Ashwaryaa Rai, !!!. I prefer Bhanupriya.

My interpretation is:

Orchestration would be composing the chords, counter points, strings and winds section coordination etc. Arrangement (strictly my interpretation and advance apologies if incorrect) would be establishing the balance, pan, tone of the instruments (reverb, sustain, treble, bass, etc..). Also, while MSV, or IR can establish the rhythm patterns, I would definitely want ARR to select the appropriate percussion instruments while recording.
