what is the status of the album kadalar dinam in madras now?. Is it a hit album?. Except 2 songs, other songs are not that good, IMO?. But lot of ARR albums in the past never appeared to take off,
but only ended up being more popular ( like MK, muthu). I will be surprised, if this one pulls it
off, though. :-)

Hi bb,
You know the reason why it is delayed , Madhurikku rendu roles.Onnu young onnu old.The want to film the old role without any make-up for Madhuri to add the natural touch to the movie !!
What about Mudhal Mudhalaaga ???

Raja fan, only ARR's songs can be sold under three different titles. Raja is still having troubles selling one.
bb, Engineer is stalled due to a lack of funding. Source: www.newtamilfilms.com

Hey Ram!

I am twiddling my thumb here. Do you think ARR will also join Arvind and Madhuri in the engineering studies? Oohh oooh... I forgot ARR is already sound engineer. Very sound and lots of sound. It will be good break for everyone if ARR goes to do higher engineering studies.

Analyser: Here are a few comments on ARR's Padayappa, Jodi/Oonjal and Kadhalar Dhinam all IN MY OPINION. Sorry for the delay, I've been busy moving into the new house I've bought, along with lots of work.
PADAYAPPA: On average, a BAD album, for ARR's standards. Minsaara Poove in the Raga Basanth(closest Hindustani to our Vasantha) is quite well done, but as RajaG pointed out, as the recordings have been done separately, there are
'minute' 'jarrs' at places. The Hindustaani Aalap by Hariharan was very well done, as were the use of Swaras and extensive Gamakams, which implies that Nithyashree was a wonderful choice. I wish ARR had used Hariharan to sing the song, as the use of Srinivas AND Sriram was not really necessary - neither is very good at Carnatic/Hindustani and what was the point of using 2 singers, for 1 Rajani? I watched the film a while back, the song was picturised well and it fits the screen well, as opposed to the effect on
audio. The other songs in Padayappa are not up to scratch. Sutthi Sutthi is in Mohanam Ragam(someone mentioned an amalgamation of Nila Kaayuradhu and Patchai Killigal - I can't see where they got that, personally), I believe and is
listenable, but the Electronic Tabla(probably from the SPD 20 drum Pad) is a little annoying as it features all through the song. Another Romeo Aatam
Potaal beat in Vettrikodi. The Kikku song was well picturised, but is so 'Iruvar' Kannai katti like and not really listenable on audio. The title song
is very Deva/Bangra mixed. I mentioned this from listening to it on the net, a while back.... I must also say that HARIKRISHNAS(Malayalam movie with Mamoorthy and Mohanlal) was the 'flip side' to the Padayappa combination that I bought and that was wonderful, as someone mentioned in the Reviews thread. It was dare-I-say much much better than Padayappa.
I do not RECOMMEND that any songs are listened to on the internet, as the quality is DEPLORABLE, in contrast to the 24 bit recording on most new CDs,
listened to on a good separates system.
JODI/OONJAL: Oonjal is of terrible quality and it seems that the track music has been used, with slight modification, the singers have sung on top of it. Unni has sung the Velli Malare/Doli Sajna replacement song with a lovely rendering of
Kaafi Raagam Gamakas and skilled improvisation, but this is the only highlight of Oonjal. Swarnalatha doesn't sound good in the song, as opposed to Mahalakshmi in Jodi. Choice of singers in Oonjal is pretty abysmal. I don't understand why Oonjal was released, as Jodi really is great, but this pales so much, in comparison.
Now, for JODI, this is the extremely GOOD version of the songs - on the whole, an excellent album, with two numbers in Kaafi Raagam(RajaG - another MD who has used the same Raga in a film, twice:)) and melodious, catchy tunes. The recording is good and the choice of singers quite apt. Mahalakshmi excels with her wonderfully smooth voice - Thanks IR for finding her?(Poonthottam - Meetaadha). SPB has sung this song with Mahalakshmi and it's wonderful. It has the influence of ARR's favourite number Inji Idupazlagi, but this is definitely an inspiration and by no means a copy. TararumPum....what can I say, it's catchy and well orchestrated. The choice of singers is good too.
Kadhal Kaditham is a nice number by Janaki and Unni M. The tempo fits well with the tune. Vanna Poongaavai is reminiscent(lyrically) to Anandha Kuyilin Paatu from KM, as it's about a girl who is in a close knit family - I particularly like the way Mahalakshmi has rendered "Naanum enna ouru
poochediyaa indha poochedikku idhayam illaya, Vanna Poogaavai". The Jeeva song is not so listeneable and Sivachidhambaram's voice has been modulated a lot. It comparable to it's Hindi Version in that way, but is nothing to rave about.
I must admit my bias towards the Tamil version, as I am fairly comfortable with the language.
Kadhalar Dhinam, an album that reminds me of Kadhir's Kadhal Dhesam, musically...maybe it's the 'youth' element of it. Aruvi summed it up very very well, so I won't say much. I liked Roja Roja, however, it reminds me of something, I just can't remenice what the old tune was. I think someone else mentioned this, but I didn't know the song they mentioned.

Latest ARR news from http://www.newtamilfilms.com/news/index.html
A.R Rahman to do World Cup theme music. Coke, the official sponsor of World Cup of Cricket, has chosen A.R Rahman to score the theme music for the event. The tournament will be held in England from mid-May to mid-June.
Speaking of A.R Rahman, he is set to release about three albums in the next couple of months. The releases of Sangamam, Taj Mahal, and Mudhalvan are
expected shortly. The Hindi album Taal is expected to be released on May 6th. Many people who had the chance to listen to Taal's songs think it is going to be one of A.R Rahman's best efforts.
Financial Bonanza for Padaiyappa Producers
Padaiyappa is creating havoc at the Indian box office with an estimated revenue of over 20 crores in ticket and music album sales in just the first
week of the movie's release. The Telugu version titled Narasimha was released on April 14th in Andra Pradesh. By the way, the European Rights were sold for £100,000.
The album, which was sold out in its first day of release, is a huge hit. The retail stores in India are stocking up the cassettes for the high
demand which will escalate due to the film's release.

Hi Geetha,
Just a clarification. What is the difference between Basanth and Vasantha ? For an ARR masterpiece in Basanth/Vasantha check out the film Muthu(The Background Score in the flash-back scenes are too good, reminding us of Andhi Mazhai Pozhigirathu ,IR's masterpiece). Is'nt Anjadhe Jeeva in Sivaranjani ?
Regarding Taal:Subhash Ghai in an interview says that the real hero,heroine,... of his movie is ARR's music. It seems there are 11 songs.
I think it will be wort the wait.....
