Is the song "Un uthOttra sevvappai andha marudhaani kadana kEtkkum" from panchalankurichi in Anandhabhairavi?. It sounds so to me what do you experts think?.

haris: 6 is many?.
Dont take it seriously, compared to a kalyani, kanada etc 6 is a very small number, thats why i said that. Anyway I knew only 4 out of those songs and thats why u found my post.

Simhendhra madhyamam, IMO is not so difficult a raga to compose a song (especially for IR). It differs only in the Nishaadham with ShaNmugap priya and I think the feel of Simhendra Madhyamam is almost equivalent to Shanmugap priya. It is really surprising as to why there are not many songs in it.

Salangayil oru sangeetham has a song in Simhendra madhyamam.
"Nataraajan kudi koNda kalai allavaa"--
starts with the words'Salangayil oru sangeetham".
a difficult one to sing..

2. Roja poonthotam from 'Kannukul nilavu'
I posted the second one in the ragas database...but i didnot see it approved. Please confirm.

"snehidane" starts of with raagam chaaramati , then goes to mohanam, shivaranjani(just 1 line)and then its back to chaaramati.

i have a question in the basics.
The swaras of Harikambhoji (a melakartha raga) is s r2 g3 m1 p d2 n2 s.
The swaras of Dheera sankarabaranam (another melakartha) is s r2 g3 m1 p d2 n3 s.
The swaras for mohanam ( janyam of Harikambhoji) is s r2 g3 p d2 s.
My question is the swaras of mohanam can be derived from either HK or DS. ( i.e., The swaras of mohanam is a subset of either HK or DS...)
Then why is mohanam said to be a janyam of HK and NOT DS???
This is true in the case of many (NON-sampoorna) ragas .....

MS, i tried to find it in the old responses. but there's a discussion on HK and mohanam - as part of porale ponnuthayi discussion.
Can u please briefly tell me what IR had to say...

To label a raagam's meLakartha, two basic rules can be
1) the swarams match with the meLakartha.
2) the raagam has the same bhaavam as the meLakartha.
The first meLakartha that comesup is labelled as the janyam. This rule doesn't hold good in a few cases.
No hard n fast rules.

bhava: i understand it as 'feel' 'emotion' ...
but doesnt' that depend on the way u play? and does all janyams of a mela have the same bhava??

Aabheri:
A raga which has some of the greatest songs. Every great MD has atleast a number in it. The greatness of this raga is the different forms in which it can be handled. Want a duet ? classical ? dance number ? solo to express sorrow ? folk number ? formless melody ?you name it and you have it. It will be difficult to list down various great numbers in this ragam. Hence I shall attempt to list a few songs from various languages to press on the versatility of the ragam.
(1)chupke chupke raath dhin (hindhi)
This is one of the best songs I have heard in this ragam. IT is a ghazal and ghulam ali's voice leaves ou in trance. You will not want to listen ot any other song for sometime after you listen to it.
http://www.calcutta-on-net.com/bollywood/audio/chupke.ram
(2) thaamasamenthe varuvaan (malayalam)
IMHO, this is the Mallu equivalent of "chupke chupke". Yesudas's voice does more wonders than ghulam ali's. tuned by Baburaj. IMHO, these two songs require vivid imaginataion even to conceptualize.
http://music.acmecity.com/flat/897/links/mallu/thaamasamendhe.ram
These two songs becuase of their ghazal nature, remind you clearly of "mEgamE mEgame" - another classic.
(3) yeh zhindhagi usiki hai (hindhi)
To say that this number is a killer from Naushad - Latha combo is an understatement. The oozing melody takes you to different state.
http://209.207.247.131/cgi-bin/tssongs/load.cgi?f=oldies/a/anarkali/YehZindagiUsikiHai.rm&l=1&i=2437&d=1
(4) kaNgaL enge (tamil)
If LM dominates the Naushadh number, Susheela dominates this number from MSV. IMO, this is the tamil equivalent of (3). The beauty of the two songs is that they are set in the same scale and hence you will have no resistance in hearing them in succession. you will feel no discontinuity
http://63.248.118.218/songs/ppp/ps_solos/kangal_enge.rm
(5) Megam karukkuthu (tamil)
To my knowledge there are not many folk songs in aabheri. One song with IR's beautiful orchestration is from the movie aanandha raagam.
http://mailbag.simplenet.com/RealAudio/Ilaiyaraja_MegamKarukuthu.ra
(6) mallelu poose (telugu)
One of the gems of SPB in telugu. Tuned by Rajan-Nagendra, it ranks among some of the greatest romantic tunes. SPB is absolutely LOVABLE (sorry for the shouting :-)) U feel like being cuddled by SPB's voice - and I really mean it !

http://64.81.35.203/songs/ghi/IntintiRamayanam_Mallelu.rm
(7) Neelavaana Odaiyil (tamil)
From vaazve maayam. A fantastic number from SPB.

MS, Thanks for the link. it helped a lot. though i'm still as intrigued as u :-) about the classification.
In the song 'ninnai charanadiandhen' - i think IR has used both m1 and m2 ( sudha & prathi). so, can we say that it is not pure-hamsanandhi?
What's the raga of the song 'amman koil kizhakkAlE' from sahalakalavallavan?? i think the swaras used in that song goes like this,
s r1 p d2 n3 s. i'm not sure whether any g or m used in this song at all.. roughly i think it has something to do with suryakantham. please clarify.

haris: IMO, 'ninnai charanadainthen' is in puriya dhanasri. (also confirmed by themusicmagazine.)
