  if VM had won awards for IR's movies then ppl. like rajasaranam,musicislife wud have added that too in IR's achievements
  
  ennappa kusumbu thane. naan sure-a VM award-i IR-oda club panna mattaen. if VM gets an award it is his fortune and his lyrics, does not matter with IR.

  Maddy I think you are below 12 year old. To realise IR's work you should remember the past. What was the respect for an MD in the film industry before IR, during IR and after IR now with ARR. ARR completely vanished the value of an MD in the film industry created by IR.

  I would not say ARR diminished the value of MD in TFM... that is too strong, i am happy that a Tamil MD is making lots of money than anu malik or somebody, but quality wise, i dont surely agree. I do believe, IR was the one person who could make a movie run for music, ARR surely did for Rangeela, i will not forget. KVM did it for Shankarabharanam

  While I have to agree to most of your statements, u shuld not forget that every MD have their own identity and achievements…..
  IR is someone special but to dislodge this champion it had to be someone double special isn’t it??
  I admire IR but not to the extent that I call him “Raaga Devan, GOD and stuff like that”....HE IS GOOD AND NOT GOD…… ppl. Tend to forget it ………
  
  Bottom line is :IR is the best but by a small distance (which ARR can cover up in 2-3 years but things are not looking good for him in Tamil so IR will remain no.1 in history)….

  how some of you call ARR GOD, for some people IR is GOD. Again, you seem to answer childish, my taste of having Nirvana has nothing to do with my liking for IR. Again I state, you are not reading fully, see my other posts too, and once again show me where I said ARR Copied. Are u feeling in secure that ARR is copying and still it is not becoming a hit? and you want credit for that? ( I surely dont know whether he does or not).

  One more thing, I know where i stand and Atleast i stay logical in giving you some explanations, but u surprise me with the limited knowledge you have of TFM and btw did you ever live in TN anytime? (this is not to offend you, just curious)

  looks like peopel have deviated very well away from the topic of this thread. so coming back to the topic, i just realised something. may be you guys noticed it already... i dont know. "almost" all the previous NA for music were given to movies which have very classical music (carnatic, hindustani..). i say almost cos i havent seen the entire list of recipients of this award, but as far i can remember it has always been the case. and many times even the movie is entirely abt a classical singer or artist and this songs. except in the case of ARR. all the 4 NA he got so far are for scores that hardly had anything to do with classical music. may be, you can say lagaan has some classical inclination, i am not sure, guess it depents on the person's opinion. but as far as the other 3 (roja, minsara kanavu and kannathil muthamittal) were totally non classical music.
  
  i think it is something of an achievment, considering the fact that movies with classical music have been dominating in this award.
  
  some movies that i do remember in the last 20 years or so are sankarabharam, mahadevan got the NA, then there is sagarasangam for which IR got the award(i still remember reading abt it in the newspaper), then there is sindu bhairavi(IR again very next year) ihave lost count of how many times i watched this movie, and then rudraveena( also IR after a few years, may be 88 or 89). all these were purely classical ones.more recently for the movie annamayya, MMK got the award. so did zakir hussain for some kannada movie. what i am trying to say is as far as i can remember it is only these classical music that used to get the award. except in the case of ARR.

  Sankarabharanam, Annamayya did not get national awards for music. Sindhu Bhairavi(86) got national award three years after Sagara Sangamam(83) and Rudra Veena(88) two years later. BTW Annamayya was not classical it was devotional, there is a difference. Even Sagara Sangamam had very few pure carnatic scores and Rudra Veena was based on breaking the carnatic tradition and had scores to reflect that.
