About IR's dilemma:
http://www.geocities.com/thiruvasakam_in_symphony/difficulties.html
".......The exceptional music composer’s compositions have gone unnoticed. The Illaiyaraja Grand symphony 1 is not released and the reason should be the attitude of
Western classical musicians who could not hear anything other than that tones fixed in the London music conference, May 1939.
I hope folks can now understand who is Ilaiyaraaja and why he is special. There are many in the world that could write music by mind but most of them would be
fixed note specialists. Ask them to write an Asian classical-Western classical fusion, they could not as what they believe as music is that 12 notes and that’s it.
Ilaiyaraaja can write for a total western classical orchestra and also for a fusion orchestra, which means all natural sounds, can be represented on sheet by his mind.
Do you now feel the difference?
If you ask a question “Friend!! Many have did fusion music; my reply would be “sir! Most of the fusion would be fusion of either American and German or Russian
and French all of which are based on fixed tonal system, which is of course quite possible if you could understand the music culture of both domains but this is a
fusion of entirely different systems, which are strongly experimented in the past. Fusing folk with a classical system is great but also not as challenging as this
“thiruvaskam in symphony” does as folk music is not much experimented with much grammatical expectations”. You are free to compose the way you want. You are
free to mould the music, twist it the way you want. Western classical and blues, jazz-fusion is also kindred........"

More random thoughts
Do we need`learned' Christian scholars to translate ancient hindu texts into english?
IMO IR has a serious PR issue. He is not able to get across to the public at large. His music speaks to his true fans, but the circle does not really extend beyond TFM or IFM. If he sticks to his creative work and let a professionally managed group handle marketing and production, this can be a very successful project. IR fans who have contributed to this project deserve a lot of credit, however, let some professional group do the PR. Sadly this will never happen.

raja m, what if IR himself can start a marketing company on the levels of SONY in a smallscale for his own 30 years productions? I think, that is possible if IR takes control of his works, like mjackson has bought out Beatles albums.
Plus, at IR' level of thougt, there is hardly anyone around to match it, so i think what IR is doing like involving Fans, the Church, the Temple etc.. is just magnificent PR work, right there. Also means, people who don't know anything about music are music producers making tons of money at the cost of quality of output. IR knows that, so it is time IR and family took total charge of their productions and not give the rights to anyone except to a Trust that looks after musical and cultural interests.
Excellent work, SSSA. If done more professionally, this would be unprecedented effort from IR, Tami Maiyyam Rev. Fr. Gasper and IR Fans!!!!!
BTW, we don't need to be proud of Tamil only because IR is doing something. The people reflect the humbelness and greatness of a culture and the Tamil people epitomise that. IR and others are only a natural outcome of the millenia of good karma!!!!

Triple or whatever #s of S:
I am afraid you are proving yourself to be insane, arrogant and does not know what you are doing.
There should be some 'filter' installed that is preventing the questions asked from entering you. Instead of giving straight answers, once again you are trying to crawl under the cover as if you are doing a noble work. Well if you want to be a spokesperson, DO THE JOB of one.
DO NOT ASK FOR MONEY if you don't know what the exact details of the project and its goals. All the postings 'copied' from some web looks great!!. This does not show that you are 'intellectual' but an escapee trying to evade answers for questions put forth.
You tried to fill up with 'thiruvasagam' quotes, now 'symphony' quotes whenever there is something relevant ones are being asked.

Kaalam: "what if IR himself can start a marketing company on the levels of SONY in a smallscale" - Don't do this to me man! ROTFL la neththi monitor la adichchundu orEy raththa viLaariyaa poodchu. :-) eppdi eppdi eppdi.....marketing on the levels of SONY yaa? Pray tell me how - through those pink ECHO cassettes?
Just to prevent music producers who don't know music from making big money, let us involve people some of whom know neither music nor music business - what a brilliant concept!!
Serious question - last time I checked How to Name it and Nothing but wind were not shattering records for Platinum discs in terms of sales. And these were free form instrumental works. Why do you think TiS (which most non-thamizh listeners will shun because it is language based) will sell when clearly the potential market is a subset.

While Bombay Dreams is thankfully providing some setting for IR' Symphony release. However, I have some gripe, maybe I am plain discontended and jealous person, but I am only angry with trade and commerce, at the risk of stiffling great creative talents.
I can't even understand what is musical about those two mediocre numbers, Shakalaka and Chaiyya, Chaiyya. Is it because these are songs fell like best enjoyed in Goa by western tourists flocking there to relish hashish and exploit children (you know what people control media in the USA today) Sorry for this comment, honestly I feel this musical appreciation is Western condescension of the most demeaning order.
Webber is plain exploitative of the "commercial" value of Rahman, and has cleverly given major attention to distractions like the sets, women and wet sarees. Plus, 500 million young Indians with disposable income in the next decade is definitely eyepopping market potential when the value systems there will have sink to the current Britney spears levels to accomodate this exploitation to a greater levels.
It only shows Western society can get threatened by real "artistic" stuff from India, they have been. Otherwise how do you explain all the greatest sculptural works of all time (particularly, from the Cholas dynasty) stolen and hidden in rare museum exhibitions and priveate collections.
Indians, wake up. Look at IR, spending his own money with the help of fans to bring forth a fusion kind of Symphony, a work of such complexity, that I really hope IR will not hesitate to release it even if there is no audience today to appreciate creative genius. You think any fans can do that for Rahman or even Jackson?!!!

Again IMO, IR has not been successful in marketing himself (for whatever reason), the recording company ECHO which he owned/created failed, inspite of a great library. He is not PR savy. He is an eccentric genius who should just concentrate on his work, BUT have a professionally managed outfit to take care of the rest.

ummm...ippO IR kku 'Kaalam' sariyaa illai :-)
indha maadhiri mouth-piece kedachchudhukku. I have a suspicion that SSSSSSSA, Kaalam, and the like are actually IR haters. By these irrelevant posts, Govindaa Govindaa bajanai madams, pleadings towards ThiruvOdu for Symphony, and other gems of their brilliance, they are ensuring that even fans of IR will stay away from this project.

That is the main problem. IR does not have good PR's and will never have (cos of his eccentric nature). If he had good ones, by this time we would have seen many 'symphonies'.
same holds good for this 'infinity' S group. They have no idea what they are into. to me, their goal is to get this 'TIS' out. maybe they want their names to go on the backcover of the CD's sold. After that.....??? do they have any concrete plans? Are they justifying themselves by taking part into this?
'father'/IR wants a music college in Sri lanka with money collected from TN. while IR wants atleast some 'symphony' of him to be released after his infamous '1993 symphony release'. while these guys....with IR music running in their blood--taking drastic measures like second mortgage etc without even thinking about their kid's future, using that as a card to get donations.....man!!! can't just believe this is happening.
