as new skeletons come tumbling out everyday, i cannot but help making one observation.
unlike other composers raja has never denied having been inspired by other composers.this i feel is because he has such deep belief in his own capacity to make original music-compositions like HTNI and Nbw just to name a few.
I am just listening to the scottish symphony by mendelssohn-there is a line in the sleeve note which says"structural cogency of movement greatly resembles that of first movement of schumans symphoy with which it is a contemporary"so even the greatest of the composers have not escaped this observation that their composition resembles someone else`s.
I think raja is a honest composer-he has always maintained music is nothing but cheating the public-he does not take refuge in statements alluding to divine inspiration or that he does not listen to others music.
after all guys,we have some one who is still going strong as regards to quality, even after almost 800 movies and still daring to attempt new music!Incidentally, this is a question which has always fascinated me- would AR rehman have succeeded s well as he has done in north, if he had had a typical south indian name like mahadevan or viswanathan.(or ilayaraaja!)

Guys,
the original version of the song 'love of the common people'(released in 1983) had this prelude with the beats which was copied in akkdaanu naana nada potta and malargale malargale song. but the version i find on the net these days is a shortr one and the long prelude has been shortened considerably. if any of u have the priginal long version i would like u to post the link(mp3 or ra) on the copied songs page.

Chandy,
u are right. i read about him intamilcinema.com. it seems this guy, ceylon manohar, had acted with our big stars way back in the 70s and is planning a comeback. this 'surangani' song is from the movie 'avar enakke sondham', i guess, which in contrast had the IR classic uravugal thodarkathai.

Do you mean 'avar enakke sondham' had two MDs - IR and Ceylon Manohar? Pls clarify.

ceylon manohar was one of the pop singers of early 80s. he has released a coupla albums (which are predominantly "dabba-kuchchi" types ).
He has acted in some movies (typically villain's side kick with sai baba type hairstyle )

Hi,
Is "ba ba ba, bababri, bababa bababari pudhu mappillaiku nalla yogamada" song from appoorva sagotharargal a copy from Beach boy song "bar bar bar barbar ann". The humming looks exactly same with words pronounciation almost same.
I never suspected this song to be copy. Feedback needed on this.

The first interlude in the song 'ethanai periya manidhanukku - ethanai siriya manamirukku..' - sounds exactly like 'ranga rangayyA engE pOnAlum..' from 'Varumayin niram sigappu..'

Guys,
Who was the MD for the song 'aayirathil oruthi amma nee"? was it veda? the song seems to have been heavily inspired if not copied(atleast the opening lines) from 'ajeeb dastaan yeh hai' a lata mangeshkar classic from the movie dil apna aur preet parayi.

aarpee,
beach boys are very very old guys like the beatles.
btw: I have posted this many times here, I will do it again, those words (bha bha) are called as "scats" something like the words "tha dha ree nana" in carnatic music, anyone can use it.
so I dont think so this is a copy.
check the other scores in the song, it is out of the world.
------------------
I am not saying IR copied because of the word BHa, i am saying because of the tune + rythm is same as Ba ba ba bababari..I dont have the song right now..but i am sure you can find it on internet..
There is no need to be defensive, every MD has copied from someone at somepoint of time..

on: Fri Jul 21 16:42:54 EDT 2000
prabhu, things will clear our once you tell the beach boys song. Somehow find it for all of us.
the chord progression g/d7/g… is very std. progression in many English scores
As far as other musical parts are concerned, the arrangement in that score will be among the top arrangements in any form of music at least for another 200 years.
I am very serious about this statement.

Pradhu
"pudhu mappillaiku nalla yogamada" is re-tuned from a MSV song sung by TMS. IR himslef told this on DD. I have bad memory I forgot the original song. If I recollect I will post it here.
-----------------------------------------
IR's old song "Malaiyil Pootha Mallighai Pookkalae Manmadhan Sindhidum Punnaghai Meengalae..." from the movie "Engamma Maharani" is BoneyM's Theme Song in Oceans of Fantasy.
The prelude and pallavi in IR's song is copied from the strong base humming in the BONEYM's theme song.
The IR's song is SPB section of

The MSV number which inspired "Pudhu Maapillaikku" is "Naan paarthathile, aval oruthiyai thaan". Apparently, this was a request from Kamal.

I think "Snehidhane" of ARR is inspired from "Kaatrinile varum geetham" sung by MS.
When I played the former in the keyboard,I found this similarity.

May be I was duped by the bongo-beat and the Violin overlays, the song orchestration is very similiar to Priya songs . Is it really Shankar-Ganesh?. I am little embarrased being a IR fan that I couldn't find the difference.
The song "Kaytathu kidaithathu kodi Kanakil..." was also copied by Shankar-ganesh duo from a BONEYM song(which I don't remember). But its a famous BoneyM song. Any1 help?
Not related but I think this is right thread. Is Hari Om Hari (Hindi) Copied from One way Ticket or just the pallavi coincedence.
Thanks Srinath I was breaking my head all night :-) . In the interview, IR said he tuned a lot of tunes but Kamal wasn't happy and then IR re-tuned this "Naan paarthathile, aval oruthiyai thaan" and kamal like it.
