Is technology the only area where ARR excels IR?
Can ARR create music with natural instruments?
If ARR is soo great why cudnt he give a good background score?
Why ARR songs dont stand the test of time as IR's or MSV's???
What has ARR done to TFM in this 10 years which other MD's
failed to do?
Can he create complex music as IR?Complex here i mean multiple
layers one above the other..
If IR is genius then why is he not a hot cake now?Why cudnt he give
music which suits the taste of present generation?Does IR fans enjoy
his present music the same way as they enjoy his 80's classics? Why
IR fans are mostly fanatics? Why people who know carnatic or western
or instrument players have high regards for IR?What shud IR do in
the future?Continue with TFM or create albums like HTNI & NBW?

>>>The type of music ARR makes while terrific, is composed day in and day out sometimes even more spectacularly by a 1000 garage bands in the United States, not to speak of professional composers who perfect songs for the likes of Madonna, Britney, NSync and the rest of the pop craze... <<<<
You are tone deaf....sorry to make such an accusation..but this is not the way you post something...I dont think you have heard any garage bands nor have you listened to any ARR music.

Saran..
YOur claim that ARR's music cant stand the test of time is preposterous and clearly shows you are BIASED..
If you are a true music lover with an open mind you wouldn't talk such crap....this only shows that you have conveniently ignored the way ARR has indegenised modern music technology and post-modern western genres for an Indian audience the same way IR did with Western classical music and Rock.

Cosmician,
Its a general opinion that ARR's songs dont stand the test of time..Even many of ARR's fans agree that..may be u r an exception.:-))..be frank..do u listen to his old songs now?i mean kadhalan, thiruda thiruda..etc etc
At the same time IR fans give more importance to his old gems than his latest scores.
The biggest question which bugs me is what ARR has abt IR in his mind and what IR thinks abt ARR..anyone know?:-))

>>>kadhalan,thiruda thiruda..etc
Ha..ha..ha.
I have mentioned saveral times that I am amoung many who do listen ARR songs often. I have almost all of ARR's collection now and some 250 odd songs of IR(very selective). I just keep listening every thing from roja to till date now, in my office, when ever I find time. My in my office share my folder and do the same.(Of course, we do it at leasure).
For that matter, I recently downloaded Manitha-manitha. It has some wonderful tunes(Lyrics sucks at time) I an listening it for the past 3-4 days.
Arr's music won't stand test of time--is a subjective opinion, which some body want's to have his sweet night's sleep can day dream it.
But, the truth is what we all know.
We don't call ARR songs as old or new. Gentleman sounds as fresh as it sounder in 1993.

CF, i think you mistook the point here. Being old or new purely depends on age. Sounding fresh purely depends on the quality(ofcourse, defined by/for person to person).
vadhanamae chandra bimbamo malaja sarohamo still sounds fresh to me...but its damn old song, by MKT.
otherwise i don't have any for/against opinion about your post because its all in your opinion that is true for a large sect of people also, isn't it.

Saran,
Hope you don't mind that I couldn't reply earlier(Holidays:)).
Repetition and degradation in quality is subjective again. To me atleast for a couple of songs(if not more)the quality of the songs are better in this album(PP).Also, I don't find anything repetitious in this album.Maybe I'm missing a more extensive cross-matching here.Or Maybe people who do this only when a ARR album releases are cooling their heels.:)
On Deva,my personal opinion he gives some good songs now and then but doesn't stand to be even compared with KR and YSR.First we should let Deva rise to a level to be compared with those two(assuming everyone else stays at the same level).
"But again, the same mass( not ARR fans ), who eagerly waits for ARR's music for one year, says the it's boring after sometime."
I think most of ARR fans here has their own individual taste. So there's no question of one fan liking the song just b'cos the other fan likes it.The converse is also true.
All,IMO

Guys,
Today most people have access to cassettes and CDs. So we can listen to songs we like hundreds of times. So it may not sound fresh after a while. But in earlier decades (even 80's) radio was the only source. We probably got to listen to them only a few times. So they seem fresh even today. Also an old song triggers nostalgia. Try listening to an old song (that seems fresh) repeatedly and then see if it is still fresh! Doesn't matter if it by IR/MSV/ARR!

Peeps...
Thiruda Thiruda , objectively speaking is a trend setting album in the Indian film industry...I still dont tire listening to it....ANY TRUE MUSIC LOVER WILL AGREE...not biased or FANatic listeners....
Kaadhalan too is a fantastic music and I dont tire listening to it. Comment has a good point here :
>>>Try listening to an old song (that seems fresh) repeatedly and then see if it is still fresh! Doesn't matter if it is by IR/MSV/ARR<<<
as I'd mentioned long back - IR's music had laid the foundation for appreciation of good music in my childhood...ARR is now doing it in my youth...that's all there is to it...each one has proved his genius in their own respect...age and time being the only difference..but if not for this IR vs ARR, TFM Page will be pretty boring dont u think ? ;)

Sorry Comments, I don't agree with you... some songs have it in them that you don't get bored at all with them no matter how many times you hear them.. like many old songs...

Karthi,
So u say that the new songs dont have that "something" in them to keep them listening many times??huh?
My exp is that i dont find anything amusing in ARR songs after it is heard sometimes..But IRs songs have something amusing in them each time u listen to it..thonda thonda kurayatha puthayal maathiri..evergreen..Can hear each instruments seperately..For ex on a silent night close your eyes and hear "thalatuthey vaanam" from kadal meengal ..i was taken to a different world..its just one example..it may be subjective..i dont know..it may be the case for u for a specific ARR song..
But whenever i close my ears and listen to a ARR song i am surely taken to a different world !..:-))

I dunno what makes you think ARR's music doesn't stand time? Because I frequently listen to Rahman's older albums and new ones. I mean Roja is one of my favourite albums. I mean vellai malai .. when that song starts, it still givez me an amazing feeeling. Gentleman as said before, still has the fresh sound as any other latest album
The actual album which changed Tamil Cinema in my opinion is Kadhalan. More precisely Muqabla, Urvasi and Petta Rap. I remember when I heard them for the first time. I was not into Indian music at all. This song was just MIND blowing! It was VERY different. After that, the albums started to change in style. Even Ilayarajah's Rasiah "mastana mastana neetaahn enakku machana" I don't think (correct me if i'm wrong) Ilayarajah did this style of music before. I at first thought it was rahman's music. Now I have the CD and only then did I find out it was Ilayarajah.
