Hi guys
sorry for the degression...but i was just listening to 'Tenali'....makes me feel this guy (ARR) is running out of ideas....also without the power of VM's tamil, the songs sound even the more ordinary....i guess IR was and is the only one who can give quality music even with disgusting lyrics....sure ARR is on the downfall and this guy has no focus....trying to satisfy all audiences with some sound effects just will not help....trying to do something big without innate real talent in composing lead to JAn GAN Man....another interesting news was when the reputed pianist Richard Clayderman visited India, he expressed his desire to create some kinda Indian music with his piano....maybe Raaajangahm guys should take note of it....i am attaching the web add....http://www.indianreporter.com/ir_new/entertainment/entertainment_20000707_03.htm....
he says "NEW DELHI - Richard Clayderman, one of the world’s most renowned piano artists, has said that he wants to incorporate Indian culture as a theme for his future recordings.
“I want to incorporate the rich Indian culture as a theme of my future recordings. I am interested in making a recording of Indian music or cooperating with Indian musicians for the same,” Clayderman, “The King of Romance” as he is popularly known, told newsmen on his first visit to India."

Hi Guys,
IR is composing for a film called "Friends" starring Vijay and Surya directed by Siddique(Mallu).
Usually,IR-Mallu director combination works out well.I can think of at least three big hits-Varusham 16,Kaadhalukku mariyadhai and Devar magan.
I would like to any other movies of this combo.
Thanks,

friends in malayalam was also done by IR, which was a hit. fazil has made tamil movies always with IR and few mallu movies too. priyadharshan made goopura vasalile and kalapani with IR.
These directors have given raja different challenging themes.

Folks,
Finally I got the Bharathi CD. Listened to it atleast 30 times. The overall impression that I got was that it is only an AVERAGE composition. The reasons are as below.
1. The orchestration in general for all songs resembles one of the morning "Bhakthi Paadalgal'. The orchestration sounds like a album from T.R.PAPPA type of composer.
2. I do not see the tunes that he has selected for the songs is great. Its just average, going by IR's 1980 standards. He could have done much much better with his talent and knowledge. Of late IR is obsessed with tunes which are really slow and can fit for sad songs. For Example, the following songs are of that category.
1. "Engee Sellum Inda Padhai" (Sethu)
2. "Vaarthai Thavarivitaai Kannama" (Sethu)
3. "Ninnai Charan Adainthen" (Bharathy)
3. Choice of singers like KJY for "Bharatha Samutham..." and "Agini Kunju.." and Bhavatharani for "Mayil Pola" is Pathetic. KJY does not have the same magical and majestic voice anymore (aging???)
4. The tune for "Nallathor Veenai Seithen..." is not good. Unless the situation in the movie really warranted for it. We have to see the movie to understand it. In any case, I would rate the same song from "Varumaiyin Neram Sivappu" composed by MSV much much better than the IR version.
NOTE: I am a Hardcore IR fan. The best song of the album though is the "Ninnai Charan Adainthen" sung by IR with lots of emotions fitting the song perfectly well.

I think I will dump IR and become a t.r.pAppA fan.

Pg,
I did not mean to say TR Pappa is better than IR. Just drawn a similarity between them.

Dorai :
I understood what U meant.
bhAradhi is miles away from t.r.pAppA's sErdhisai style.
bhAradhi is a milestone in ir's career. The orchestration is not flashy but subtle and is very much ir style.
What I meant was if t.r.pAppA composed this style of music it is time for me to become a t.r.pAppA fan.
Keep listening to bhAradhi - U will never get tired of it. I upgraded to a cd from a cassette after 4/5 listenings.

Dorai,
I went to the KJY-Chitra concert in DC last sunday, the guy still ROCKS!!!! (he did goof up certain songs though). But, I do agree that his two songs in Bharathi don't sound that great.
IMHO 'nallathor veenai' kicks butt, I read that it forms the background for the funeral procession of the mahakavi (correct me if I am wrong guys) , I feel that it fits the mood perfectly.
BTW, they are screening the movie in Virginia on the 28th(23 rd?) of this month. They were distributing the handouts which had every single detail about the movie on it except for the music director's name. The top half had the ad for Rhythm with "Music: ARR- super songs, super hit".
P.S: The rhythm pad player in the KJY concert was too good in switching ON and OFF the prerecorded
beats with perfect timing, shouldn't these guys be called switch operators rather than musicians?

Shankar,
About the Nallathor Veenai Seithen" Song, I infact guessed that its probably a funeral procession song (and I told my wife when we were listening to it). Thats why I said, we have to wait until we see the movie to see whether the situation warranted for such a score.
IR is an EXPERT in coming out with such scores. The best recent example comes from the movie "Sethu", when the hero comes to the heroine's house to see her dead and he walks on the streets with the song in the background "Vaarthai Thavari Vittai Kannama..." suited 100% perfectly to the situation and brought out the scene as a class apart from the mundane tamil movie climax scenes.
I would rate this song as probably one of the best ever by IR when it comes to situation based compositions.

Satish,
Bharathy is going to be screened in NJ on Oct 20th at Clearview Cinema Hall in Woodbridge. I am sure it will be done around the same time in your state as well.

PG,
I did not say the bharathy is bad or anything like that. I was hoping for a score of the genius like "Janani Janani..." or "Amma Endrazhakatha.." with lot more natural instruments like Veenai, Indian Percussion instruments, Flute, Violins (with his classical touch) but felt that it is not there and even if there, did not produce the same kind of effect like in the above songs.
I am hearing to Bharathy songs every day in the morning and evening during my commute to office and I am addicted to it. It is just my opinion or rather a wish that IR should have come out with a better score.

1) "I am hearing to Bharathy songs every day in the morning and evening during my commute to office and I am addicted to it. It is just my opinion or rather a wish that IR should have come out with a better score."
You hear it day in day out at least twice a day & you're still saying 'IR should have come out with a better score'?? Are you alright buddy??
2) Why keep comparing Bharathi to what he has done in the 80's? Can't you appreciate thing as it is now & esp when you know no one could still do better than him even now??
Pls make sense & learn how to appreciate.

I Guys,
Yesterday I got Bharathy Plus Ilayvan in a CD by Ramiy.
Bharathy songs are not cinamatic....
Imagine Bharathiyar sings his songs...
he wouldn't have sung in flashy flimish way... I hope....
may be that is the reason IR has put tune as NEEDED...
It is extremely good...
Once French music is over (that is last part of 'Bharathy' in the CD.. )
Immediately Ilayavan songs starts... you will feel that your are out of peace full world to normal mundane life...
Thanks
Sai

Sai, regarding the Bharathy, you are right. Its really nice to have the perception of how Bharathy himself would have sung the songs, with himself being a poet, not exactly a musician. I believe, he would have sung it, with whatever tunes that the environment gave him. It is also to be noted that the same environment gave the words. That is, the same environment, forms the source of both the tunes and also the lyrics, and if IR thought about doing something like that, he should have tried to have the perception or the visualization of what made bharathy to write those words. I think this is the way, any musician should have tried to score, having the right information about the background. Not the way, the musician perceive. A good example, would be the song Kappaleri Poyachu, in which, the first stanza, should have expressed both of JOY of Independence and the pathos of Kamal not over there. But the tune of the song went with the music and not the words and the background. I am sorry, if I am wrong but thats what I could perceive.
