Srinath ,
>When it comes to ARR/Deva, these guys can
>appreciate any song and justify it by saying that >a larger number appreciates it.
I have experienced this when i talk abt TFM songs w/ my friends.. I have given up !! it's okay to say IR's songs are not upto mark as his earlier compositions( though i don't agree personally )
but it really hurts to see people saying Deva's blatant copy as being better than IR's numbres!
Puriyatha Ulagamappa !!

news bits from dinakaran:
IR is back in kasthiriraja's next venture gummipaatu starring prabhu and devayani. it seems kasthuriraaja always shows the film to IR, who then suggests where to insert the songs. KR is going to adopt the same plan in this film too.

Folks,
Excuse me if this is old news..
Kamal in the latest interview in dinakaran's website has said that IR is the MD for Marudhanayagam.. Hope this ends all speculation.

I guess that people are so much used to hearing mediocre songs that they just fail to notice something extrodinary. IMHO IR has been producing some exceptional compositions in his recent movies... like 'meethada Veenai' from
Poonthotaham, NandavanaKuyile and illaya Nilave from PonnuveetuKaran. In fact the first flute interlude in the song Nandavanakuyile is out of the world. It has a totally unexpected twists. Absolutely fantastic! Again IMHO I think IR is back to his old form I mean his 80's form when he produced Jaani, Metti etc.,Well I don't care what the others say I guess people will relish these songs when thing really get worse... I mean at the rate the taste of TFM lovers are going that is bound to happen. But it might just be too late then!
The other day I was listening to IR music after listening to ARR's 'Doli Sazha Ke Rakna'. I initially thought that album was good but I soon changed my mind after hearing a few of recent IR's albums. People think that ARR's is the person who brought in layered music (attn:Pradeep) but I request these people to listen to IR's compositions...like Ninnukori where the music is absolutely layered in the background scores. The background in that song would start with an instrument and another instrument would be played on top of it and so on..THIS IS LAYERED MUSIC! Nobody noticed it then because it was just one of the things IR did almost always. Another thong is the concept of vocal percussion. Numerous IR compositions in early 80's had it! But IR was such a genius that he used in folk style...After all people who talk about voice percussion must realize that 'Konnakol' in Carnatic music is nothing but vocal percussion. KVM was an expert in the use of Konnakol. Now would people talk about KVM when they talk about vocal percussion?
The moral of this story is anything that is Western sells! I am personally happy that IR's still sticks to traditional scores and refuses to be cowed down by Western music dominance in Indian Film Music these days.
If IR had got the same kind of movies that ARR got like Roja, Gentleman, Indian his music would have been noticed. But look at the movies he gets Ponnuveetukaran .... etc., would anyone other than IR's fans ever buy this album after hearing its name?
Hence my conclusion from this long mail is that ARR's albums are better marketed and his movies are better too! Give a Roja or a Gentleman to IR now and see what he produces! I dare Maniratnam or Shankar to do it.. I think they are no longer capable to handle a genius like IR. How can anyone inspire himself if someone is scoring music for such useless movies? I for one find a loss of motivation when my work gets boring..But it is to IR's credit that he has been producing some amazing songs over the past year or so. I think TFM lovers atleast IR's fan must somehow encourage IR to come up with more songs like Meethada Veenai and Thendral Vandhu...
C'mon guys...Let's do it! Do it for IR..

Good point. As I'm typing this response, I'm listening to songs from Avatharam. SATHIYAMAGA PULLARIKKAVAIKKUM songs. Its a pity that this film didn't get noticed. Likewise, there a song "Arumbuga Mottaga poovaga" from some Ramarajan's movie, and the song is just too good. The film was released some 4-5 years ago. But, I listened this song just a week back! Imagine, how many such gems of Raja would've been wasted, unnoticed!!

Vimal,
The "Arumbagi Mottagi Poovagi " song is from the Ramaraajan movie "Enga Orru Kaavalkaaran" . One other beauty of the songs in this movie is all songs are sung by P.Susheela . At the time of this movie, very few IR songs were done by Susheela. Most of them were by SJ/Chitra. All of a sudden all songs went to PS in this movie.. I still can't figure out how IR decides the female playback singer.. But it all works out just Great !!
All the songs are folktype and are amazing! Did u listen to "Maala karukallile.." . I like the first interlude Melam.. Amazing !!

Finally I got to see to dhEvadhai [vAzhga Atlanta
Priya Imports:-)], the BGM was excellent. Especially during the first half hour and then
towards the end. All songs were decently picturized. The music bit at the end during the credits was really nice. Overall the movie could have been a very engaging thriller if it had been
edited wisely.
Also happened to see Jeans' songs. My God, the dance sequences for all the songs were really terrible. Now, MSK I agree with your heartburn
when you see cell Phone and Laptop burn:-)

Guys,
Check out the songs from "Kaadal Kavithai" starring Prashanth and a new heroine, directed by Agathiyan. Hariharan has rendered three songs and Ilayaraja himself has sung one song. There is also a good number by Bhavatharini. Ela Arun and Swarnalatha have sung one song. It is a good album on the whole.

Hi guys! I just visited this site and am happy to notice all those wonderful comments about IR. Personally I think that he is the only music director from India who has any real musical talents and is never afraid to kick the boundaries of music with a powerful force. To realise my point, just pick any movie with IR's score in it. Watch the movie for about 10min, then close your eyes and just listen to the background score. I bet that from that background score you will experience the story, theme and all the vibrations from the movie with out even watching it. This, I call as the touch of a genius. I challenge any music director to do so.

"kannAththAL" seems to be a hit in TN. Courtesy news : http://www.dinakaran.com
"iLayarAjAvin pinnani isayum, bakthipparavasamoottum pAdalgaLum..."
one of the reasons for the success of the movie.
Raaja promised Dir Barathikannan of a mega hit when signing this movie. Seems to have succeeded!

i read in a newspaper that IR's first telugu movie (comeback I should say!!), Anthahpuram, got released in a small function in HYD. This movie is being directed by Krishna Vamsi of Ninne Pelladutha fame.
IR commented during the function that he is awaiting the acceptance of this album by the people.
Does anyone heard the album?? I will let you guys know when I find some info. about it...
in the meanwhile,
have fun...
