Anthahpuram is a remake of a telugu movie
by the same name. Music is by IR for both
the versions. It is being directed by Krishna Vamsi, who was an assistant to RGV and has directed 4 or 5 movies in the last few years..
It has been a while since IR has done a decent profile telugu movie.. I can only think of
K.Viswanath's last movie as IR's last movie
with anyone of some repute in Telugu. Ofcourse
the movie, along with the music, sank, sinking
K.Viswanath's career with it...

Yes, Chinnabbayi was KV's most recent film, and out of the seven songs, I loved 3. All songs were sung by SPB, and man, avar kallakkittaar.
But I was disappointed with the album's success.
DIGRESSION: Balaji, are you and bb the same?

Thanks Balaji and Nagas.. ANy telugu site having audio clips of this movie.. I was under the impression that subha sankalpam was KV's last movie. Thanks!

Who is starring in Chinnabayi and when it is released?
- From: Dev Mannemela (@ hydra.avid.com)
on: Mon Dec 7 21:59:39 EST 1998
Yes, I was talking about "Chinnabbayi".
It had Venkatesh, Ravali (and also Ramyakrishna, I think) in it.. I think it was released a couple
of years ago ( Pongal '97 ? )..
It bombed quite badly and K.V. went into retirement ( he has been in semi retirement in a while, though..)
It had one nice SPB, Sujatha song ("ninna choosina udhayam"), among others.. But I don't think the audio made any impression..

Shankar:
Kadhal Kavidhai cassette cover has IR's title as..
alai meedhu iLaiyarAjA. Is it put like that
to mean that the alai meedhu song is the
best in the album, or, to mean that IR is on a wave?
- From: Shankar (@ webgate0.mot.com)
on: Tue Dec 8 03:08:55 EST 1998
Ragapriyan,
I guess u were carried away by those words,:-))) the fact being ,the song "alaimeedhu" was written by Raja. If u notice, u can see agathiyan's name above his (as he's the lyricist for the rest of the songs).

I listened to MVU yesterday. I must say the music is really very good. IR is back to form. Particularly, Ilavenirkala panjami and Manasa killi are really good to listen.

IsaiGnani is doing an album named Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey which tends to bring out all the musical forms
from the olden days till today. He has used rare musical instruments ( I read that he is using a old finnish instrument )

You can listen a very nice telugu song
from IR/KV's "Chinnabbayi" at
http://www.padmalekha.com/telugumusic/viswa.html
While you are there, do yourself a favor :-) and listen to other songs from KV's movies (almost all of them composed by K.V.Mahadevan).
It pains me to see that greats like KVM are delegated to the rusty storage bins in the minds of many listeners these days..

The Hindu's review on thalaimurai:
Ilayaraja has re-cycled some of his old tunes with modern
background score and ``Enga Maharanikku'' (Ilayaraja and Srinivas) is the pick
among the five songs.
How can they miss a song like "thaththi thaththi"?

Gokul: Don't expect great reviews from Hindu. His reviews are often don't mean anything. It works both ways: good songs are criticised and poor songs are praised.

Gokul,
I think the name of the guy who does the review is D S Ramanujam or sthg. He was raving about Deva in one of his articles. No wonder in his giving this kind of review.
TOI, is also equally bad.

MSK,Kaushik,Shankar and nAgA:
Thanks for resonating with me.
It is not only about Hindu. The otherday I was watching DG at a theatre here in Atlanta
and you all know DG has nice songs, I mean what else could you ask for in such a serious
movie. Songs Like nAn vAkkappattu pOra idam , en kanavinai kEL naNbA and all the kindal
songs of ManivaNNan were good. I was loving them. But the Audience were groaning during
the songs. I was going like come on guys this is too much.
When it comes to appreciating IR's music, there is something wrong with todays world!
Even in this forum people have said nasty things about Guru, aNNan and albums like that.
People are too hasty in forming opinions. Reading comments like that for a long time have
led me to move away to *The Hub* and stop participating here. Nowadays I visit
TFM page only to read this thread for getting info on IR's new movies.

Pity is, after all this, IR fans are accused of fanaticism !!! THAT really gets my goat ! When it comes to ARR/Deva, these guys can appreciate any song and justify it by saying that a larger number appreciates it. But talk about one album of IR and it's always, "Don't keep repeating the same old examples" or "You like IR's new albums because of your fanaticism towards IR" or "You are not able to accept the change" !!! Why should I show any mercy in the face of such blatant bias ?
- From: Gokul (@ coopers-fwd.us.coopers.com)
on: Fri Dec 11 14:19:50 EST 1998
Srinath,
Well said.
If that is fanticism, then truly I am a fanatic. :-) Another good for nothing reason is, IR has given excellent numbers in the past and his current ones are not in that range. After having listened to such so called 80s songs, we cant appreciate this.
C'mon guys give me a break! Stop comparing his new songs with old songs. They fail to notice that his music even after 750+ movies (as an aside, most of these movies are so uninspiring, it is still a wonder how he could come up with such lilting music!) is refreshingly new and innovative. Albums like Guru/kaliyoonjal/yAtrAmozhi/kizhakkum mErkkum are recent examples of good film music. The general current trend of synthetic pop junk gets appreciated by the mass. They go gaga over dEvA's and other nameless musical misfits. I dont see soul in any of these current MDs music. It doesnt click with me at all.
