Gokul,
I was listening to iLavEnir kaala panchami, the moment, I m writing this. What a great song?. Why cant IR give songs like this, atleast few in a year, we wont be complaining about his music, do we?. I think HH is a good choice for this song.
His deep voice suits very well, I liked the way he sings 'iLavEnir kaala panchami'. I have to agree, he strugules a little to improvize in the lines 'idhu janma janma bandhma illai elu janma bandhama'. The beats in the song are dangerously sounding close to mustafa mustafa song. Also over all the album is better compated to other IR recent outputs.

geetha,
although diana diana reminds one of oru mani adithaal in the beginning the song sounds completely different in the in between stanzas. also even in the pallavi there is certainly a difference if u are going to compare this song note-by-note with oru mani madithaal.
reg. MVU other than ilavenir kaala panjami i find the other songs mediocre by my standards. ilavenir kaala panjami is not a great song but much better in comparison with the others.
overall, IMO, the best TFM song from IR in recent times is alai meedhu from KK. after a long time iam able to hear natural violin sounds in IR's orchestration.

I'd say most of the songs from MVU are very good. Manasakilli is avery different kind of dappanguthu.
The way Swarnalatha sings the melody, and the way that melody mixes with the dappanguthu... Even the beat of the dappanguthu is very different. IMHO, its a very nice album.

Any idea when TIME is going to be released?

TIME is going to out in no time, I believe. I know it has been a long time waiting for IR's Time. I have been doing that since December for this anticipated timeless piece of brilliance of IR. I hope 'somewhere in time' IR's Time will stand the test of time as 'time goes by'.

Have you all read IR's interview to VIKATAN.
He has appealed to his fans to spread his music around the world so that he gets better and better.
It appears that he is in deep financial trouble.

Sriram: Please can you give us a brief translation of the interview. I'm not so well versed in reading written Tamil, and there are many DFers who don'e know Tamil. It will be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance....

Can somebody post the URL please ?
Vikatan site has 14 Feb 99 issue and Raja is not on the cover.
There were other rumours about Raja being in deep financial trouble and that's why he has been unable to complete his Raja Universal Recording Studio, his college for music etc. It seems that Raja had borrowed money from Udaiyar family and has been unable to pay it back. And the Udaiyar family wants Raja's T.Nagar home and other properties in lieu of the loan.

Guys,
Read this in TTV:
I happened to listed to 'kallukondoru pennu'
last weekend. While it was nothing extra ordinary,
it difinitely was something very fresh compared to
some recent Tamil works by IR.
Anybody else listened to this album? How is it?

MSK,
It's Tamil Thirai Valai and the album
is a malayalam one not telugu.

IR begging his fans to make his music popular? Are you kidding us, Sriram anney. Please do not think that IR is insecure and anxious. But is he becoming more like a prophet? What is this i say. this interview cannot be true. But, if IR said that, then we got to start thinking a little more about what is this

This was an interview published in the recent issue of vikatan Which has Raja on Cover.
question 1 was about his parents and his earlier days. question 2 was about his fatherand then the questions were about his currents status
question : Raja sir, There is a joke about you that if you start asking fees from your disciples
a lot of todays MD's will have to loos their thumbs. What do you feel about it ?
Answer: On no day I have thought about me as a Guru. Music is gods property and anybody can use it. What am I to tell ??
Question : Do you have intentions of doing anything beyond cine music ?
Answer : I want to make an appeal to my fans and youngsters who have belief in me . Create a forum for exclusively for music and spread whatever comesout across all directions , then see what comes out of me .
If there is a SAKTHI that is prevalent all this will happen.
You may ask why I have not done it . But god has not given me the brains to do Business . Otherwise
by now you would have seen a lot of choultrys and recording theatres built by me and a lot of people envying at it.
question: We hear that you are in deep financial crisis and you have lost your peace of mind being unable to repay the loans
Answer : If I say no will it make us happy ? If I say no will it make us sad ? We get loans to get rid of difficulties and by getting loans we get into difficulties .....
The above were the important questions asked and the answers given by IR.

I felt sad after reading the interview given by a person who has ruled the music world for more than
two decades. I pray that he comes out of all his difficulties and gives his best.

Sriram and Geetha:
As I said, IR has could not have asked us to promote his music directly. He is now understanding the power of his own music, his fans and he is now waking up to the fact that some forum like ours should start marketing him. Let me tell you one thing, it is very foolish of him to even say that God did not give him the brains to promote his music. Then could he have composed so much? Also, the world is not yet ready to absrob the quantum and perfection of IR's music.
If IR has asked us, I think we have got to now pick up real speed. Already this foundation has laid the foundations in terms of having a forum meeting in Chicago, having a business plan to digitize his great works, etc..
Now, we have to move it. Let us start this movement.
I am very happy that IR has finally talked something more tangible for his fans.

on: Fri Feb 19 14:59:00 EST 1999
SitaRam,
It is very understandable when an artist of IR's calibre says he wasn't given the brains to handle the marketing and business side of his profession. He's an artist not a business mogul. I'm shocked and bewildered by news of his financial crisis.
In the mid-80s, Vairamuthu had proclaimed IR as far richer than Rajnikanth. This is not to sidetrack the issue, but VM must have been speaking the truth about IR's wealth. When that was the case, what happened? Did IR blindly leave all financial matters to some swindlers? Make many bad investments? Wasn't he holding the royalty from all his music produced under the Raja banner (with a visiri as the business symbol)?
This is sad news indeed. This should never happen to any artist.
But the call to his fans renders the belief that IR doesn't care about his music as wrong. Maybe it's time to revive the "Let's get together and produce an IR album" thread. I'll find it in the archives and revive it since that sentiment has renewed purpose now.

SitaRam,
I have been a almost passive follower of this thread and I am a mad fan of his currently in NY.
I do really agree that it is high time we do something. How about teaming him with greats like L.Subramanium or Ravi Shankar ....people who have international repute and producing an album. Apart from this we can produce an album with just his BGM.
We must also get hold of greats to comment on his musical genius (giving technical fundas) and these must be in the BGM album. It is high time we wake up world and make people listen to IR's music. I am always willing to help you guys in this regard.

HI Fans,
This is now our time. Put words into ACTION.
We should NOT hear this from an Artist in the
21st century. As we all know, he is not a business man, as some other MDs (so called) are. One of us
should make a contact to the correct person and start doing something.
Thanks,
Nesan P
