  Me neither ne 1 of the other folks out there couldnt figure out anything,
  what the hell R U folks talking about?????

  If you could not figure out anything how come you conclude that these persons are bashing ARR ? They could well be talking about the reality which you could not make out.

  Rajag, this issue is going on right from 1990's in chennai,. Basically many big singers are afraid about thier image, what if the band performs badly, people will only tell the "x" singer failed badly - they will not tell band failed...,
  also the singers are not confident that the band could match up the original track.
  I have been playing keyboard for more than 15 yrs now, inspite of my good speed, I have had singers asking if I could play the "pove sembo ve" second bgm or the "oh butter fly" second bgm without a sequencer. ?, hurts me what to do...

  ZXY: Me too a hard-core fan of ARR. But, trust me; whatever CF is saying is true. The complete so-called live show by ARR is a fake. They just played the tape (or cd) and acted on the stage for most part of it ! (that includes both instrument players and singers).

  We can easily identify which is oringal and which is played live, just concentrate on the sound,
  We need to know the difference between live sound and recorded sound. thats all.
  Most do not know, so they are exploited,
  music band like A.V.Ramanan's museano still takes lot of pain to play live stuff without sequencers or the Dreaded "-1" tracks
  but majority including arr play recorded tracks in a live show.

  Chandy, SPB's "flaws" are a result of boredom. I was told that Harini had done around 500 stage shows. SPB's first stage show dates back to 1967 and I have not come accross a better "live" performer than him when he decides to be serious. Ref: watch any show that he has done with MSV,KVM, you may not want to listen to the original track at all.

  Fan: I do know about the "safe playing" attitudes of the singers and MDs. But let us keep in min the caliber of the troupe members playing with ARR on that evening.
  Sivamani, Naveen, Raju (sax) etc. The probability of these people hitting a stray wrong note or beat - may be quite high. The probability of these people
  SCR*WING UP the show with bad playing - next to zero. That being the case, why not give the thrill of a real live show to the audience. idhellaam

  Agreed 100% with you, infact with sivamani, naveen - going live will be better than the original
  
  basically big artists should not accept for this, if big people like sivamani and naveen accepts for playing over recorded tracks,what can vks and srikanths or rajag can do,
  I had been in this boat for a long time now, only audience have to protest and tell "comeon do it live" until then nothing can be done.
  
  LIVE music has got to be LIVE in all aspects, it is similar to announcing a live drama of Crazy mohan instead - a video is played on a big screen..

  ZXY, if many of us could make out the fake outs just by watching video, i'm surprised you couldnt catch it live. Just to be sure, are you also referring to the ARR live concert in Dubai that we are all talking about??????
  
  fan, i agree with you on the fear of singers to perform live. They rehearse their songs and want to time it very well - so any improvisation or changes made by instrumentalists might upset them.
  
  I have been to Sivamani's live shows and they are really good. In fact, even in dubai concert he appeared to be playing live for many songs (i'm getting skeptical now).. but the fale-element was very obvious when he came in front of stage with instrument in his hand, and tried some gymnastics.. ditto with ARR who had the sequencer hung on his shoulders, walked in middle of stage, "producing" excellent sound... May be these guys are turing from music to acting!!!!!!

  In a recording instrumentalist take some what back seat- this is somewhat a tradition in tfm. Infact thanks to ARR for telling the world it is performed by x,y, z.
  In past most did not know who played the fast part in Oh butterfly or fast parts in anjali anjali or engeyum epodhum or tabla in ragangal 16.
  
  IMHO: In a live show the singer and rest of the artists are given equal importance. Every one should perform,
  Best in a live show:
  1. We perform together, needs 100% coordination
  2. We see each other
  3. Play with a feel
  4. improves skill.
  5. Mistakes are ignored with a big "mazupal" smile.
  
  
  As a singer would improvise (like Spb), the instrumentalists should also be given the freedom to play something etc.
  
  If you had seen gangai amaran's shows in 1980-90 the flute artist plays lots of fillin in between the song that are not there in original score.
  
  But offlate, it is not like that.
  tracks are recorded in CD's and played. Some singers have argued with me that singing with sequenced tracks is a talent, agreed you need to be 100% accurate with electronics,
  But still, I tell them that is the time you actually become a play back singer. :)

  Regarding instrumentalist acting perfectly : the big secert is just turn off the mic. This weapon is also used when an artist totally looses his way.
  
  i will tell an incident: a guitarist use to bug us to join our band, finally we said yes, we gave a show in adyar gate madras
  but after playing 4 bars, we cleary found out he directly came from a bar, he played something (we call it cotton beating:)) so we had to shut down his mic, but poor guy not knowing that his mic was closed, was (acting)playing like santana!..going up and down the stage..etc, ofcourse I played his scores, along with my overhead.
  So imagine if this happens in a big live show with 1000's of people watching, so to ease the tension, many are swithing to this -1 mode.
  
  But as RajaG (look alike) asks - why sivamani and naveen has to do this?

  I use to tell rajag release a "+1 CD",
  
  record the voice alone in the CD and we will play the bgm live.

  Watz up? .. well .. arr's next album Rhythm is slated to be released at the near end of this month as is Theenali. Also good news to Canadians. Arr's next Concert is held in Skydome on September 30th, 2000.

  What? .. i didn't quite get that. Its a concert by ARR. Don't care about money for this. Did you see ARR's concert in Dubai? It was real hype. I have his concert in RealVdo and good quality too on my webpage. YOu can download it.
