Music is like murugan - who came straight from the netrikkaN of shiva. Similarly IR is the father of music without music needing a mother. illiyaa kaNNan ?

Athi
I get ur point that Ooram song fits well in movie. But the movie gone after 7 days, when ppl listen to this song I think they can not enjoy the song. It applies to SETHU songs too. I guess there should be a extra care to make the song sound good when it heard separately. About Kayathiri song, its disappointing that it has not been included in the movie. Same thing happened to Niram Pirithu and Isail Thodanguthamma. May be they wanted to stand out the outstanding tunes by keeping it standing out of the movie. J
I see some discussions about
Raja fading away factor here. IR could be the ocean but unfortunately he has to flow through a small hole called kodambakkam. Not only IR, any MD will fade away soon if he is not scoring for at least two successful movies every year.

I was watching ilayaraja hits from NUMTV. For the song, "En Iniya Pon Nilavae..." by KJY, the scene was so good with crisp voice of KJY. No dance, no fancy stuff. Just natural flowers and of course simple and sweet face of "Shoba". Shoba's face is so innocent and yet simple. I felt it is a wonderful combination to enjoy the song and scene. Most of the time, I get disappointed when a dance scene is associated with melodious IR song. Probably because, when the song is so nice to listen, and the dance scene simply does not live upto that standard, people get fed up.

Guys, it is very sad but lets face it.
IR is history now in Tamil Films.
Every movie that is coming out is either Deva, SA Rajkumar and the big ones go for AR. And poor IR doesnt even come in picture. Now that doesnt mean his music is bad or something its just people atleast back in TN simply doesnt listen to his music atleast the film industry consider him as an 'untouchable' and IR still seem to be struggling to get into this rat race,I still find his music better than the others but still we will never get back that 80s golden IR period back so bye bye to IR and welcome the new ones
And very soon people will get sick of AR too
I know lot of IR fans takes things very personally but we have to face the realities...
BTW IR badly needs a Good sound engineer and good PR..

Ganesh, I agree with you. This happened to MSV when IR took over him. Now it is IR's turn to pass the baton to ARR.
I feel more that, people are looking for some change in music, that is why they are inclining towards ARR.
But do not bring in Deva or S.A Rajkumar into here, they are like Shankar Ganesh and Chandrabose when IR was at his peak.

Does anyone know about the details of Kanna Unai Thedugiraen, apart from the fact that IR is the MD.

Rama and Ganesh,
In your comparison, you say MSV was faded into when IR came. But, you have to remember one thing. MSV was not able to give away any new tunes on his own. But IR even today is able to give new tunes. But, other MDs use their same formula and borrow ideas from DJ music(Pop, Country, Jazz, Arabic, etc.,). They are already running out of their stuff. Because only creativity helps for sustained growth of new ideas. Right now the trend is, since most people cannot really understand the lyrics of English music, they feel comfortable to listen to that type of songs when composed with lyrics in Tamil. This is mainly due to cultural change. Come on, with every producer, actors(except Kamal) ditched him, what do you expect.
But, actually Ganesh contradicts himself, by saying
"I still find his music better than the others....". We are not sheeps to follow what other sheeps do. We have to use reasons and think before concluding. Anyway, when prejudice takes over to the extent of ignoring truths, nothing can be done.

Hi, saw hey ram in hindi y-day ... I thought the BGM was awesome .. any news about this being available anywehre on the net or in a CD format? Please
let me know .. Digression: I think the movie was very good .. but kamal haasan by resorting to that cheap pubilicity gimmick of putting steamy scenes on
posters sc**wed it up. I think that got the movie a lot of bad talk. pity!!!!!

ChandraBose atleast tried to be original, and SG had their share of original tunes as well, unlike the other two mentioned.

Ganesh,
When you say 'Ilaiyaraja fans take things personally', I feel otherway around. Just visit some ARR threads and when someone say 'the album is not good', ARR fans simply say 'get lost', 'get the hell out'. I am reproducing some of the minimum decent words. I feel IR fans are more matured like him.
Though Deva, SAR copied, we are too much criticising and turning a blind eye on ARR. Even some of us call that 'inspiration'. Do we mean to say Deva, SAR copies more% and ARR less%? Everyone had their original tunes. In fact Deva had given many wonderful songs and when he copies he says so unlike others. I see a sort of frankness not like 'that is my style' reply from ARR.
IR may have become untouchable, may be because of the same reason ARR does to Dhanu for Kandukonden. I mean delay in composing in case of ARR and may be refusal from IR as he was the only one for atleast 20 years and it is/was simply impossible to accept all offers. Unfortunately a genius like him can't copy (left, right and center as someone mentioned). That must have created enemies and they wish not to go back to IR. So what? Does that mean IR is inferior?
Atleast I believe, not at all.

Guys
Happened to Listen to 'Kanna unnai Thedukiren' at Raaga(www.raaga.com).
Wow breath taking music from IR. Very very fresh and melody to ears after listening to SA and Devas. Amazing how this Guy is able to give different music even after 20yrs. Great!!God help this movie in its commercial success.
My Pick of the album is 'Koil mani kettane' and
"oor Urangum Nerathil' wonderful piece.
I leave the rest to the experts here.
Especially I like the little peice of Sax in the 'Koil' song!! Offlate many guys are into the 'Madhyamavati Ragam' like AR in KK song 'Konjum Mainakkal' here also there is one in 'konchum Kuyil Pattu'(intresting use of swarams and percussion though)

Guys, I listened to KUT songs, all songs were good. But I felt other than two songs, Oorurangum nerathil and Vanchikodi, others were kind of more similar to his old style. But the two songs I mentioned were so fresh. If they still had some impact of his old songs, that is something unavoidable after almost 900 movies.
Oorurangum nerathil - This has a cool foot tapping rhythm and is so catchy. IR has used a jazz touch during the song and also in the fill up, and that is what adding the pepper and salt to the song. This will never strike an ordinary listener. The song as a whole is awesome.
Vanchikodi - Another classy song i liked. little bit of jazz fill up again in this song, it was really good. I feel he should have used it more, anyway, again a good rhythm. Bhavatharini's voice sounds shaky during singing or is it yet to get matured or what ever, but her humming is ok. Chitra would have been a better choice. Over all this album is worth a buy for just these two songs.
