Hi Vel!
I was discussing the usage of some ragas with my parents and in Podhigai, there was a programme "Thirai isayin Pala vazhigal". Deva was talking of how he used Sindhu Bhairavi in pucca kuthu song "Autokaran " in Baasha . It was interesting. Also interesting was the way in which he was praising MSV, KVM and IR for the strong base of raga in their songs. Send me the DB . My parens would love dissecting into this.
Thanks,

Hi Jaiganesh,
I find "muthu mani malae" from chinna kounder to be a mesmerising sindhu bhairavi.

Hi Vel,
My parents went through the list and were very happy and asked me to congratulate you on this effort. As such, i am slowly learning the art of identifying ragas from film music. My father was of the view that, there were some ragas, which were inherently present in the fol songs and other classical western notes. So if IR or for that matter any MD sat down to compose, would it have occurred to him that this mood requires this raga? Is it also possible that they "chew" the lyrics mentally and come up with a "tune", and then embellish it giving a classical touch? This would explain the fact that IR could give some good classic numbers in a pucca folk song. Aslo interesting to note the interludes, in some cases, interludes have shades of other ragas (but phonetically related). We can discuss this in more detail...

Jaiganesh,
Many thanks and my regards to ur parents.
Enriching one system of music with parallel use of another system of music, seems to be IR's policy (systems include western, western classical, carnatic, indian folk amongst umpteen others).

Vel,
He has to be really a multithreaded person (an ashtaavadhaani or a dasavadhaai) to really accomplish that. One more example that comes to my min is "Vanamellam Shenbagap poo, vaanellam kungumap poo.." from "Nadodi paattukkaaran". Amazing tune. Then interludes are mind blowing. The best flute interlude in all of his movies(IMHO) comes before the second stanza. It is fast, it is flowing and it is classic carnatic!!! All for a road side show song!! I doubt , how many composers would have taken a serious note to do an equivalent work for that situation or for that small a movie.
ps: SCV and KTV can be congratulated for telecasting this song and other IR golden melodies in the morning. One of the best possible music to wake up and listen to.
Thanks,
Jaiganesh.
