What is AR Rahman's undisputedly BEST song ever, and what is his WORST composition? Songs like PUTHU VELLAI MALAI from ROJA and PUTTHAM PUTHU BOOMI VENDUM from THIRUDA THIRUDA has a funny way of clinging on the back of your mind, just like the evergreen KANNALANE and UYIRE UYIRE from BOMBAY...not to mention THENDRALLE THENDRALLE from KAATHAL DESAM and ANJALI ANJALI from DUET. So which is his BEST and WORST?!!!

i thought 'rukkumani rukkumani' was one of his worst compositions.. with its overdosed thagara dabba beats.

'thai manney vanakkam' from VANDE MATARAM is one of his best compositions.

And all songs composed for MUTHU are crap.

In my opinion Vennilave from Minsara Kanavu is best ever composition from ARR. Normally ARR believes in instruments in his all compositions. But this one was big hit just because of its quality and originality of tune and mixing. Moreover ARR's most songs are not longer lasting except this one.

IMO, Rahman's best is Uyirum Neeye from Pavithra. This is seconded by Sakiye from Andhimantharai and then Nila Kayhirathu.

personally, I originally thought that Malargale Malargale from Love Birds was the best. But then, Roja Roja from Kadhalar Thinam came along- too good. Especially with Unnikrishnan's voice

All songs rendered by Srinivas for ARR is worst!
Most useless voice , i have heard so far..
Also , ARR's most compositions are not all time
some of the exceptions are

2.Ennavale
3.En mel vizhundha malai thuliye

5.Thanhaa thanhaa
6.Anjali Anjali

I feel Thiruda Thiruda,Bombay,Roja,Indian are all
totally useless from Music buffs point of view..
ARR spoils good tunes by giving it to Srinivas
like how illayaraja spoiled giving it to
Arunmozhi and Pavathaarini...

some good songs are :
1.varAdhu vandha nAyagan
2.AdhAmum EvALum pOla
3.oru kaNam Ayinum
etc.,etc.,
I think, you have heard only 'oththa rUbA thArEn'.
that is why you have created such a bad opinion.
please try to hear those songs, you'll be really
impressed by his voice.

similarly, srinivas is singing really well.

i think, only bavatharini is a criminal waste.
ilaiyaraja has committed a great mistake !

Of the latest, I would say that the theme piece from 1947-earth is simply brilliant as shashi put it sometime back. The sarangi/santoor mixing with violins gives u a great feeling and I can almost visualize the partition riots when i listen to this piece. his tamil songs are nowhere near this quality. for guys who haven't listened yet here's a link:

ARRs best composition is whatever Michael Jackson , Ace of Base, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, James Horner, MSV, K.V.Mahadevan, G.Ramanathan composition was. All that in his own version and style.

5)Chittirai Nilavu - Vandicholai Sinrasu - Most effective of ARR's melodies!

I think his best composition laid when that
particulaar album in hot sales.I think Talam
is good with a lot orchestration. Well done even
lord Webber give him praises for Talam piece.

Thanks for that interesting piece of news Vijay...Lord Lloyd Webber himself? I must be getting soft nowadays, to miss a news like that! I better start my follow up on ARR once more. From Thaalam, my favourite composition would have to be "Kalaimaane". Hariharan's soulful rendering of the wordings took that particular song up to another level.

There's lots more to be said about "Kaathal Illamell" which actually achieved near perfection status in it's Hindi version "Ishq Bina"...in Tamil the lyrics sounds a bit 'forced' to suit the tune.

"Kadhal Yogi" with TL Maharajan could not compete with Shukvendhar's "Ramta Jogi" in Hindi either. Perhaps some songs are better left in their native languages!

"Thaal se Thaal" and "Thaalathill nee" was good in both languages, as was "Kariye Na" and "Sarithaana" in Tamil with Mano. A perfect vocal for that village effect song. I could almost see the green green grass of India's country side.

The recent releases of ARR like Taj Mahal and Muthalvan was exceptionally well done too. Any comments?

this song of his; thendrele from kadhal dhesam, nuthin can beat it for the next 100 years.....
he thinks from the mind of a youngster; he explores from the profesional, n he gives us the best!!!
