I know this is not a discussion board for Hindi films or awards..but looking at the list posted by Fliflo, I am happy that a crap movie like "Mohabattein" has been almost completely left out...looking at all the promotions on TV...I knew it was just another "Mills&Boon meets Beverly Hills 90210" bull.

Firstly, "Thenali" and Roja cannot be compared.
Maniratnam had asked AR to compsose music that would appeal to a whole nation and he did it beautifully...though I didn't like it at first...but after more hearings could make out the superb touches and simplicity...
"Thenali" songs is more for a Tamil only audience...and I feel KSR has misguided AR here...and we've got to accept it...KSR is a good director but he doesn't have a year for music..."Muthu" being the exception.
Shankar is the guy who has been able to extract really good stuff from AR..

It is really great that the North Indians accepted the Musical Genius of Maestro. By being a IR fan, I am really happy to hear the news.

azharadha sirikardhannu therile
pathetic to know that Raja is king only in BGM,
so indirectly it applies that he has lost his touch in making songs

Friends cassette sales were high and the songs are said to be hit, becos there is no ARR album released currently, since there is no rehman the choice has fallen on IR,if friends had been released alongside with some ARR release the situation would have been different

Sats,
I contradict with your statements. IR is not only king of BGM. He is evergreen superstar of Music. Listen to Hey Ram, Kannukkul Nilavu, Ilayavan and Friends & Karisal kaatu Poovae. All are different between each other. IR is still ruling. Try to accept the rather than just stick on to a single point. ARR is good. But he is no way near to IR in quality of music

Well, I can't assume what would have happened to that if this could have happend. If you feel that way it's fine. But if you would argue this way then I have my sill ways of arguing.
(My silly thought was since IR's whole family and Harris Jayaraj are involved in the business I would say ARR just escaped from Kollywood quoting some other reason. FYI,
Zubeidaa is not topping in north. 12ka4 is a failure...Just read this post too...)
My aim is not to start another arguement. Read this show time article:
It's a great, euphoric feeling, being at the top. Some lucky talented ones attain it without much effort. But sitting on that chair can be like sitting on a giant wheel. One minute you're up there, the next, you're down.
Ask whiz kid A.R.Rahman. Just yesterday he was being heralded as the Number One music director in the country, the marvel who pulled one foot-tapping tune after another out of practically nowhere. Today, everyone is ready to knock him off the pedestal they'd placed him on.
To be very objective, Rahman's last few creations haven't exactly topped the charts. The music of Tu Hi Mera Dil, Love Birds, even Hindustani are being rejected by music lovers. What could have happened to the man whose creativity produced such memorable sound-tracks in Roja, Bombay and Rangeela? Why had the twenty-three-year-old genius" music stopped appealing to music lovers? Is this is a classic case of early burnout? Or is it just a temporary setback?
I know you can't digest this. That's the same way with IR fans.

My aim is not to create another longstanding, never ending IR vs ARR or x vs y kind of arguments. Some people like coke, some othres pepsi and some nattu soda..etc.etc. If you're happy with something keep going with it. Crap postings such as who's the best? is only a waste of time for both, the person who's posting and the one who's responding. No Offence..

Looks like Father is going to beat his songs as far as movie success is concerned, this is a report i read in kumudam, according to that
both Dheena and Vanchinathan is a utter flop
only friends they say will run 100days.
And in the movie review they have said IR music for this film is 50-50.
Looks like Lady Luck has yet to smile on IR sons poor kids!!

That's not true. Read my earlier posting from chennaionline. It says Dheena music is absolute. I see Sollamal song very often in Sun tv. Also see this
All the 3 seems to be doing good.

That article was published in 1996. After 1996, he has given some hits like Taal which was a huge hit in North India. So it's difficult to accept their points. But I agree that he is fading away in recent albums and I think tamil film industry should give chance to newcomers or atleast Harris and Yuvan must win the race.

Aduthavan Vazharatha parkaratha vidau Avaan azhiyaratha parkarthalathan sundohzam this dialogue comes in Tenali movie now it sound apt for these kind of articles.
Remember it took only one Roja to throw out South King of MD IR from his throne. Even though fanatics wont agree but the truth remains.
North Indian fellas are so jealous of ARR. Its very simple they tried the same thing on IR but IR never really shined in north so they felt safe, but ARR broke all regional boundaries thats why these kind of comments is being passed by them. What big music that Nadeem has given to comment on ARR first he has to clear his shady charachter before commenting on Genius like ARR.
Its sad that some IR fans have to stoop this level to get a sadistic egoistic pleasure.
If you guys are planning to take this kind of ego trip it shows your taste integrity!!

I know whom you are mentioning. You must understand one thing. Just see in the top who started this topic and just see what I have written. I mentioned to sats not to enter into this kind of argument and if he does so I would be doing the same thing. That post was my response to sats and nothing more can be derived out of it. Nobody is sadist here. However, anybody has the right be a hardcore IR or ARR fan. Equally, anybody has a similar right not to like IR or ARR's music. UV you can be more direct than being ironic.

If you want your team to win, you are obviously having pleasure in other team's losing. If not, there won't be any competition.

I accept that Nadeem Shravan has done nothing big to talk about ARR. But your burst out says that by ARR's Roja, IR has been thrown from his throne. It is not correct. I will explain.
Do you think that IR by making his entry in Annakili thrown genius MSV from the throne. The answer is no, because MSV was already 700 movies OLD by that time. People heard so much of him that they appreciated an alternative. That's all. Same is the case with ARR and IR. ARR entered when IR was nearing 700 movies(Thalapathi is 650th movie, I guess). So people welcome the change. This does not mean he is thrown out or something like that. In fact IR could give songs to audiences and surprise with unpredictability now also.
If both of them started the career at same time and one outsted the other, then you can compare their talent. I will tell you one simple thing. When IR was in peek, there was no number 2 or 3. I remember that if in a season 12 movies are released, 10 of them alteast will bear IR stamp. In atleast 7 of them songs will be good. There are never a complain of him delaying productions due to his work. But on the other hand there are lots of complaints about ARR delaying projects.
I too like ARR's song, but I never felt that he has thrown somebody out or something like that.
However, we should be better music lovers than fanatics. This is my opinion.

IR sidelined MSV when he reached 700th movie.. ARR did so when IR reached 700th movie.. Inference: ARR could be de-throned when he reaches 700th movie..
hi.. hi.. we are talking about atleast 40 years. :-)) [ assuming he did 100 as of now, and will do 15 films per year].
ninaichaale pullarikkuthu. :-))
