  MS, this one is for you.
  A song worthy of discussion, "Naan endral athu avaLum naanum" from 'Sooryaganthi", sung by SPB.
  As usual, a strong melody base with the tempo set by a trumpet piece in the prelude set to a Dum maro Dum kind of beat (Drums and Tabla mixed well).
  A youthful SPB is in full form with his sangathis , he sings the pallavi in different ways after each stanza, sometimes with a roll,sometimes with a drawl etc. I chose this song because, the santhams presented by KD (?) in this song are very difficult to set to a tune,infact, the first stanza is almost like a lengthy dialogue.The typical MSV stamp with long drawn out notes (kaariyamaakkum guNamudayaaa.....L) all over the charaNam and SPB enjoys it, embellishing them with appropriate expressions. Unfortunately, the second interlude is cut short in the radio version. The first interlude starts off with a solo violin piece , with finally the organ prompting the charanam. A lovely composition.

  All the above songs are difficult to set tunes to.But again, the end result is amazing, you do not notice unnatural tugging-away at the tune to cover the lyrics, mellifluous flow of melody.
  
  Konja neram nammai (Sirithu vaazha veNdum)
  This song is even superior to the his own Saranga-ish composition, Iravum nilavum from Karnan.

  naan endraal athu naanum avalum: the female voice is Jayalalitha's. Lyrics in tamil by vaalee and in english by Randor Guy.
  
  The early SPB sometimes comes off as too nasal - for example in kankaatchi (1971; kunnakudi). There are a couple songs I wish PBS had sung (anangan ankajan endrum vasanthan manmathan endrum, thullum mangai ullam). But thru' the early 70s he was becoming more popular so much so that even in Sivaji/MGR films he had a song or two (e.g. irandil ondru nee ennnidam sollu in raaja, padagu padagu aasai padagu in uthaman).
  
  MSV in this year's pongal special on Sun TV? mentioned the following:
  
  TMS was diffident about singing yaar antha nilavu beacuse of the low pitch and had to practice a lot to get it right.
  
  The director KB, editor etc of aval oru thodarkathai wanted MSV to sing deivam thantha veedu. MSV kept delaying the request since he felt Yesudas would become a hit until the last minute. Finally, he told them that he'd done the rerecording and then everyone met to look at the final version before the reels would be shipped to theatres in a few hours. KB and the rest heard KJY and afterwards walked out without a word to MSV.
  
  When MSV worked for CS Subbaraman his early duties were to polish the musical instruments (this was in the late 40s). CSR was struggling with a pallavi for a PU Chinnappa starrer and several tunes they he developed did not work. Finally, he decided to give up for the day and everyone left. As they came in the next morning to work on this tune, MSV while polishing the harmonium, played a tune that clicked for everyone and CSR acknowledged that they would use that for the pallavi. It was "mohanaanga vathani unaiye kaanum baakiyam varumo" from Mangayarkkarasi. This was later recycled as naatakamellaam kanden unthan aadum vizhiyile (not sure if this was the recycled song).

  MSV mentioned one more anecdote. During the making
  of the movie, Gauravam, he was keen to have Kovai
  Sowndhararajan sing paalootti vaLarththa kiLi.
  He had Kovai S practice singing the song. Since
  Sivaji was not sure about Kovai S's voice, he
  wanted to be personally present during the recording.
  When Sivaji came to the recording place, Kovai S got
  jittery and messed up the singing and so he was
  taken out and replaced (luckily) by TMS!

  Has anyone heard Ulagam Sutram VAliban's 'Ulagam...Azhagu KalaigaLin...' in its entirety as it appears in the movie? That's something to record and preserve!

  Ive heard (and seen) in my video collection. That is the first Tamil cine song to have captured the most number of shots. It is said that it had at least 200 shots which were narrowed down by the editor under most trying cicumstances.

  The MSV melodies page is up on the net! More songs will be added later. I have included some songs of other MDs also as the songs meet the criterion. 'unathu vizhiyil', for example has signature interludes typical of MSV. It is by SG! . Other few non-MSV songs are haunting melodies. I have divided the songs in to two parts having 20 songs each. Part-II still has five more songs to be uploaded , which will be done some time this week. Part- III will come up after this week end.

  thanx once again for your efforts (your work on compilation of old songs). I wish i had all those songs with me. I have some collection of philoshpical (mostly MGR) melodies of TMS (mostly by MSV). I will have those songs in part III.

  An after note: There's another version of "Sondam EppOdhum" with a prelude humming by PS and different lyrics, I feel this version is even better!
  
  Could you also try to upload the song "Ninaithaal Sirippu Varum Ninaivil Mayakkam Varum" from Bhama Vijayam by PS & LRE?
  
  And last, I could not open "ThEdinEn Vandhadhu", it just gave error everytime I tried it!
