Wonder who is the majority here?
Fans of unlistenable IR music who has pushed his marketability to almost zilch?
OR fans of ARR who has made him a superstar, beyond the dreams of his earlier generation?
Just as you can't keep talent down, you cannot push up mediocrity, even if you try very hard.
Too bad, HCIRFs. :)

Perfect statement Yaaro!
Going popularity and talent - ARR
Doing it for doing-it sake - IR
See how the mighty fall? :)

Yaaro
Peripheral answer again ....
Why not a straight answer come from IR himself, not necessarily through this forum. That would put an end to all speculations of magazines, expectations & embarassment for HCIRF in forums,a fitting answer to doubting-Thomasses like me.
Just imagine if Rehman claims the same way without bringig it out ,that he has composed a symphony were would you place him?I expect a whole turn around in your arguments.
Our Prayer is Rehman should compose a symphony, conducted by Zubin or JS and RELEASE IT AS WELL.If it is by JS then i am sure someone from your HCIRF camp will call him a paid-conductor!

Whatever happened to Illayaraja's symphony?
ATHU KATHODU POCHU.
PEOPLE WHO HEARD THE PIECE OF NOISE WERE SO DISGUSTED AND HE BECAME THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE WESTERN MUSICIANS. IR WAS SO EMBARRASED THAT HE STOPED RELEASING IT.
EVERTIME PEOPLE ASK HIM ABOUT SYMPHONY, HE CRINGES WITH EMBARRASSMENT. HE WANTS TO FORGET ABOUT IT BUT YOU PEOPLE ARE BAD, DON'T WANT TO GIVE HIM THE CHANCE TO FORGET ABOUT THE USELESS PIECE OF NOISE.

Q: How did you get the offer to write a symphony?
Pyramid International, a recording company based in London, asked me whether I would be interested in writing a symphony. Writing a symphony needs much concentration. I said, "If I agree to write a symphony, how do you propose to market it? The people there who listen to classical music do not know about me. How do you make it possible for them to hear my music?" They said, You leave that part to us." Only then did I agree to it.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
From the above Q&A we can infer that releasing the symphony is NOT in the hands of IR. IR is chosen to be the composer for the symphony. RPO is chosen to be the perfomers by these producers. Something roughly like for a Balachander movie IR/ARR being chosen as MD Prasad Studios/Panchathan being the recording place(very roughly). Once the songs are recording the producers own the songs and it is they who have to release the audio. Nothing in the hands of composers.
There might be many reasons for not releasing the symphony. A few of them could be:
1) IR has some difference of opinion with the producers/marketing people of the symphony.
2) Per the reply from John Scott to anbu(singapore) the producers/marketing people are worried of suspected poor selling of the symphony.
If the reason is former then we cannot do anything for that its between IR and them. As eager fans we have to count some more years and even skceptically thinking we may never get a chance to listen to it :-((
If the reason is the later, then thinking pessimistically, all we can say to the producers is that, instead of keeping it in cold storage they can atleast release it now and expect a low to moderate sales which could help in meeting some of their investment. This, i think even the producers know better than me.
So, my two cents in griding the rumour mill:
royalty or money sharing issue between the producers and IR might have made the producers to go for not releasing it, otherwise if it were any other reason i guess they would have went ahead releasing it having low expectations out of it.
At the same time, even though it is heard that IR in some cases is stubborn in certain things with the (cine)producers, he is known for good gestures like "doing music for free", "getting money only if the film gets profit" etc. So I feel a royalty or sharing issue problem due to IR would not have go so far hindering his chance of going beyond cine music and becoming internationally acclaimed.
So its still remaining a puzzle!!!!
But one thing i could not understand is that, even the so called formal media (like kumudam, Aanandha vikatan, The Hindu, Outlook etc) have not raised this question to IR in their interviews with him in the past "nearly 10 years" and try to get the real reason behind that non release. Atleast they haven't published one such information. All they have done is, written their own articles like what we amateurs do here about his(IR's) non releasing of symphony adding fuel to already buring nonsense fire.

After so many...so many months and postings I see a real logical reply to the question. Not an answer though but you have really logically tried to analyse things..Good....I hope the row ends here and the music piece is released.

I remember reading an article in AV or K magazine, long long ago, which said some thing not so pleasing about symohony and its delay in release...Do anybody know about that?

But certainly there must be organisations and forums to protect creative artisits works.
It does not work like Bottle-crashing strategy of Ramesh Chauhan during Pepsi-Thums up war.
Clearly money is one big issue. Many of IR s feuds could be traced back to "M".GV,KB and even the recent rumour about Oscar Ravichandran and Thangar Bachan.
I spoke to one of the WCM circle person who said the there is certainly objection to the word "symphony" from the WCM puritans.
...to be contd.

I am sure if "Ownership" is the issue,IR can very well sue under "Intellectual property Rights" under British laws and get it from the recording company.I hear that even in India he can sue Pyramid under Indian Laws for breach of contract.Irrespective of the outcome,it would have killed many issues.
I see lot of K-tel CDs which have Classical music with Techno-beats floating in the London market and here in Middle East.(Like our Babla -Mukesh series or T-series "Jhankar beats cassettes). When such Cds could float as music (ofcourse NOT AS Symphony),marketing,Sales may not be major issues. With a following in Tamil Nadu and among the Tamil immigrants in US the market in is NOT SMALL.
IR could have still come out another symphony in the last 10 years thru a company of HIS choice. Why he has not done that? Also as pointed out by Sashi earlier he could have come out with the same one with minor modifications without infringing copyright Acts and released it in the last 10 years.

I think I unnecessaryly got in to this over creative syndrome...It seems he dislikes critism on his creation...on such creations where he feels that those who critisise should possess knowledge about that subject..may be ..he mighthave thought...who are these these to criticise my work....so he is reluctant to release the symphony...Now this sort of an attitude is quite natural with any "Brilliant" creative person and IR is not an exception....If you look at the history...many artist even though higly talented and exceptional...lost out the race to some one just because of their conservative attitude of being rigisd with critics...If you read thru JS's letter, you will understand that. JS mentions that in a different way.
