I just can't wait for the Costly Affair song of Raja from Poonthottam. If Raja has said that, there must be something special about the effort.

Rajan:
Thanks for all the latest info.
KPS recording is OK. But the original cassette
quality itself is not so good. System-la pOtta

Gopal:
I am not sure about the recording quality. I have not listened the songs, so I can't tell the difference. But I could tell you about the Jeans recording. You have increase the volume to real high, by the way I have an excellant strero system, to get moderate volume. The recording was digital, but when it delievered, it was poor. Take for example thiruda thiruda, kadal Mannan by OMI, Thayin Manikodi by HMV, all of these movies were recorded digitally in same old place, pan...
and you can tell difference in the recording. But why the difference in Jeans? Do you have an answer?

Mano:
In the latest interview given by ARR to Ananta vikatan, he said that he has imported a new electronic equipment recently which will record the songs in highest quality and deliver them without much noise. Jeans is the first movie recorded using that equipment.

MPR:
It doesn't sound great. Perhaps the best equipment gives you a bad performance. Not only Jeans, other oldies such as Minsaara kanavu, Ottam, Mr. Romeo etc., you have to increase the volume to real high to get a moderate volume.

Dear fellow TFM members,
Does anyone know how the songs of "Vakappatta Boomi" have come out. I read in article somewhere, which had mentioned that the songs have come out well. Is it true? Is it also true that IR is working with KB? If he is working with KB, then I'm pretty confident that, the songs in that movie will be the greatest of recent past. Can anyone respond to this query?

Swami:
IR is working on a project which is going to be produced by Kavithalaya productions and directed by M.Kalanjiyam not by KB himself.

Wasn't it mentioned earlier that IR scores music for Balu Mahendra's next movie, "Vaaraayo Vennilaavey" starring Prabhu?

Mr Amar,
Ilayaraja is not the Music Director for Balu mahendra's movie "Vaarayo Vennilaavey" He is being replaced by Music Tendral Devaa.

I think Kunjappan is talking about another Prabhu's movie titled 'Iniyavaley'. Deva is the MD for that movie. Still believe Ilaiyaraaja will be scoring for next Balu's movie.

Hi Sree,
I got this news from my friend in tamil nadu who is working in tamil film industry as an assistant director. May be that is wrong. Sorry for the tappu seythi. Any how, I am happy that he is not replaced by Deva. Thanks for your info that deva is the MD for 'Iniyavale'. I like deva's music as well even though it is a carob copy or photostat copy of IR Music. Thank you once again.

Is there anymore news about POONTHOTTAM?
- From: sree (@ viveka.cs.concordia.ca)
on: Thu May 14 18:23:19 EDT 1998
Nithin :
IR New film `Poonthottam.' Directed by Mu.Kalanjiyam.
The director said there are five songs tuned in by Ilayaraja, one of them
``Meetatha Oru Veenayai Meetum Neram'' (Lyrics are by Mehta) is based on
a difficult classical raga, and it took Hariharan 14 hours to render it.
The final outcome is brilliant. Similar was the experience of Mahalakshmi who
came from Mumbai to sing the song which will be shot against the picturesque
backdrop of Kulu and Manali.

Friends
This still is a topic I would not run away from. During the course of discussions about Danny Elfman (considered the king of film composers) I bought his Men In Black album to confirm my feeling that Danny Elfman is highly influenced by Illaiyaraja's style. I continue to defen that claim, however in the process I found that Danny Elfman may be a shade more sophisiticated that any one composer including Illlaiyaraja in terms of sound mixing or tracks. If you listen to MIB, you will know what I am trying to say. Danny Elfman has so many layers or tracks that the music is highly mutlilayered (more than any western classical orchestral pieces) and yet sounds just like one piece of music. I think, Illaiyaraja should incorporate this feedback into his symphony and bring out some of the most intricate musical patterns ever weaved on this earth.
I am posting this in a few threads just for the thrill of it that if Raja can wind of this information from one of the threads

Thanks a lot for the exciting news. I just can't wait for Raja each new release. I think this is what Raja should focus on. Do 10 or fewer movies, but concentrate of innovations that has never been tried or radically different.

Friends,
I have two queries here -
1. I recently bought "INDIA - 24 HOURS" recorded on an audio cassette ( 60 minutes long ) from the CD version - the album was of course, vintage IR stuff - but I have a serious doubt as to the length of the album - could anybody in the DF tell me what is the actual running time (length ) of "INDIA - 24 HURS " ? I want to make sure that I have not been taken for a ride by the dealer from whom I had bought the album in Bangalore.
2. I saw two IR albums - "SENDHOORAM" and "DHARMAA" - since I was in a hurry, i couldn't listen to them - has anybody in the DF listened to these albums - please do discuss about the same.

GREAT NEWS FOR IR FANS! My wife who is vacationing in Madras said she has purchased for me 5 new albums from IR. They are:
Poonthottam
Dharma
Sendhooram
Kannatha
Kumbakonam Kovalu.
According to her Poonthottam songs are out of the world. There are two songs by Hariharan (including one quoted in Hindu that took HH about 15 hrs. to get it right) that just blows your mind away.
Dharma songs are excellent also with 5 songs by SPB.
She says she did'nt have time to listen to the rest.
Can't wait to receive these albums .... and (almost forgot..) also for my wife to get back!

India 24 hours is 53:41 minutes long. It is conducted by Uttam Singh, by now famous for his songs in the film Dil Hai Ko Manta Nahin!
Krishna
Many thanks for the great news! Please tell us more about Poonthottam. As per some news article, Illaiyaraja took 3 days to compose one mega super song.
