No body can match IR in BGM till now and ARR is good and that's all. And better than many. i have not seen many ARR's movies. the bgm in the god-awfully boring movie zubeida was good. i liked some portions in padaiyappA (but was the bgm done by sabesh-muraLi?). one movie that was a disgrace to ARR was pArththAlE paravacam. that movie had probably the best music from ARR but it had to be for THAT movie? ! . i got to watch dum dum dum. if that movie is any way indicative of kArtik rAjA's abilities, this guys needs to watched closely. if tfm doesn't give this man more opportunity, it will be tfm's and our loss. (the movie wasn't that bad either.)

Couple of other scenes from Karisakaattu Poove for IR’s BGM:
1. Vineeth gets to collect few belongings of Ravali like MElaaku, ear ring etc one at a time as days go by and he treasures them. This is shown slickly and in about 80 secs.
There is a bgm conveying a joyful mood, predominantly in violins and sounding wcm-ish, when he does it for the first time. And as each different day is shown (which we don’t expect to be the sequences ahead) the same tune is played with variations and to a good effect. This is in the 1st half of the movie.
2. During the 2nd half, Ravali, having given her consent to marry Vineeth without ‘really in favour’ of it, gets to accidentally see all that he has collected (almost a dress set and other main ornaments!). She is shocked at this. This is for about a min (or much less).
The same bgm as in 1 is used, but with variations, this time to convey a surprisingly shocking and serious mood, that too to a very good effect. Actually, more than her facial expressions (with due respects) the bgm conveys the right mood very effectively.
There are even other scenes in the movie that ‘look’ better because of the bgm.
“Vaanam paartha” song comes during the titles and “Maamarathula” is picturized quite ok (and not totally messed-up as it usually happens) bringing out the innocence.

Vikram has done a good job in the movie. All the best to him for his future undertakings.
Looking forward for his new release and hope he will do new thrill movies soon.
Best of luck to him.

I was listening to "Oru sundari vandhalam" song of Azhagi from FM radio.
Hey, it sounded as a recycle of "oru gundu mani kulungudhadi" song of Avadharam (one of my personal favourite and probably the best of IR last decade..IMO).
Did anybody notice.?

I was refering to the album as a whole. Of course the song in Jone Puri raaga is really amazing.

Had a chance to watch Azhagi yesterday. An honest and lovely movie, where once can relate their own personal lives. Very fine and controlled performances by everyone and IR is just amazing in the BGM. For a change from his recent BGM's this movie has 2 theme BGM's to it. Final word, take a break from all the crappy movies running around and don't miss the movie.

Why there is no more new songs from our Maestro. What happen?Raja now is very very busy. That's why he ask Nasser to give his latest movie PopCorn to Yuvan Shangar Raja.He is also do a album with symphony music.I think that is Thiruvasakam.Devan,Kamarajar,Kasturi Rajaa new movie,Music,Parthiban new movie and etc.All the best Raja.Raja's music in Kaasi and Azhagi are very good.He is a born genius.I like Raja very much because he is always like to be low profile.I always respect his musical knowledge. He is one of the best.As kamal said Raja is the best ever music director for this centurey.Raja's hits song will stand for a long time.I think he is created by god for music.Really very special human being. If I got another piravi (janmam) I like to born as Illaiyaraja.

A small digression:
Can anybody provide me with a link for the song “Deivangal…” by Mano and SJ from Pudhiya Ragam? There are some unusual moments in the song (orchestration, tone…) and I’m sure many will like the 2nd interlude. "O Janani" is a well known song from the same film and the remaining songs are decent ones too.
TIA
End digression

km, what u r saying abt me may be or may not be true.
but what is 100% true is, nobody is willing to buy ir's so called 'symphony' and 'india24hrs' albums.
if ir has a real massive fan following the music companies will not hesitate to buy and release those albums.

no jalra, what is also 100% true is that IR was creating music for movies when you were no more than a gleam in your local paalkaaran's eyes. So get the hell out of this thread!

elevate IR by your praisings , but not at the cost of local paalkaaran's dignity. He is a human being too and no different from IR. Both are doing their jobs.

I dont know why people always talk about ARR(the so called music director) when talking about IR(the only Music Creator) It is disgusting, when you guys talk about IR just talk about this genius alone.
when you talk about ARR talk about Deva, Harish Jayaraj, Chandrabose etc(it will be well and good)

`oLiyilE therivadhu dhEvadhayA?' - somehow I felt the starting of singing (by the male singer) is not `powerful' enough or...I don't get a correct word, it somehow lacks impact / emphasis when he starts `oLiyilE'...especially after a grand instrumental opening...compare this with the `pAdavA' in NPP, where SJ begins the pallavi..

eden,
Just now watched 'Azhakhi'. What a wonderful film! Treat to ears and eyes. IR has carried this film with the marvelous songs and BGM. People were talking about few situations for BGM. But to me BGM is the back bone of this emotional near to real life situation film. One of the films which will have a long impact and will take you back to your school days.
IR was requested to select the situation for songs. Not sure whether the songs were composed after the film was shot. Looks like to me. Most of the songs come in the background (no lip movements excepting 'Oru Sunthari'. There are two more mini songs in the film, which are not in CDs, I think. It must IRs way of doing BGM. (Songs instead of BGM. Wow, one of the songs sung in the 'Anaathai Aashram' will haunt you for more time.
Regarding 'Oliyile', it does not sound powerful as you have mentioned, could be because the hero is a boy when the song comes in the background. Songs are perfect blend to the situation.

i thought of writing abt. azhagi. but had to change my mind after seeing your mail. my views abt. music: ir's music is very emotional and powerful too. but, sometimes the bgm seems repetetive, 'cause he used the tune 'oliyilae' too much.
eden, i also felt the same abt 'oliyilae'. the singer starts as if he is very sad to see the girl 'oliyilae'.
