The golden era of tfm must be the period when viswanathan-ramamurthy reigned supreme in the 1960's. Their songs have become immortal classics! Would they have shined in hindi film music, considering that they used a lot of hindustani ragas in their tamil film music? Just go to this website for a glowing commentary on their 1956 hindi film, Naya Aadmi:
http://members.tripod.com/~ATMJH/in4.html
Even though the songs in this film were well received, somehow they did not get any more opportunities in hindi films after this film. Would they have posed a formidable challenge to shankar-jaikishan in hindi films?
What do tfm surfers think?

>> One song of LP which i liked better than its tamil original is 'thumhi meri manzil' from khaandaan <<
No the music of this was by Ravi (known in Kerala as BOMBAY RAVI). (BTW - just a tidbit. his full name *is* Ravi Shankar, though he is different from the sitarist Ravi Shankar).

a case of inspiration...EngEyum eppOdhum (SPB)/Sambo Siva Sambo (MSV) of MSV from Ninaiththaalae Inikkum seems to have inspired RDB for the title song of the engrossing DD’s Hindi TV serial Subah sung by himself that created the right mood of drug addicts.

naan illatha sila dinangalil this thread has changed from VIsu Ramu to LP's qualities. LP are good (compared to Anu Mallik, anand-milind,sanjeev-dharshan,n-S et al) BUt Visu_Ramu are a class act

Your obsession with "Varavendum oru " from Kalaikoil ( THE JAZZ TAMIL SONG)- is proving infectious.
Someone has posted the musiconline link with similar comments that of yours in another thread.
Please post your discussions with MSV about this song here in this thread.

OISG, please check your mailbox.
MSV was happy somebody remembered that otherwise forgotten song. When I told him that it was guys like SK who had made that song available for the TFM lovers to hear thro' internet, he felt very pleased and asked me to convey his gratitude to SK, which I am doing now !!! :) He started clapping his hands and singing it incorrectly as 'varavENdum oru nilavu' and then proceeded to send for his harmonium and started singing the song again (with incorrect words) with new chords (different from those in the original song).

The arrangement in 'varavENdum...' may have been only a precursor to the great Jazz piece in 'thattungaL thirakkappadum' when Chandrababu breaks into a freaky dance.

Any idea about the Hindi equivalant of "Thavaputhalvan" which has scintillating scores like
"Isai keetal puvi asainthadum" and "Ulagin mudhal isai(Jugal Bandhi Style)"
This movie has Sivaji playing a musician, suffering from "Evening Blindness" (Malai Kann ..Is the translation right??).
I vaguely remeber a Rajesh Khanna movie with similar knot(?).

All,
After a long time, i have completely read a thread. I do feel that VR's style was unique, tunes very much compatible for an acceptance for Northies. It is just they did not work on it.
If we need to understand their greatness, listen to all songs from Karnan. I am simply amazed how MSV(+ TR) gives so many good songs in one movie . Others from MSV are Ulagam Suttrm Valiban (thank god Kunnakudi was not MD) and Ninaithale Inikkum , etc..
I have wondered about the implicit Charukesi in Azakiya Tamil Magal, simple Kalyani in Sontham eppothum, intricaices of Oru Nalile.
My wife is a Tamilian from Ahmedabad and she is zapped by songs like Nalai Inda Velai Parthu.. (Urantha Manithan), Deivam Thantha Veedu ( Aval Our Thodarkadai), Illakanam Marutho (Nizhal Nijamagirathu... what a perfect song).
MSV is simply matchless.
SL,
Hope you remember me. I got a mail from you long back.As others , iam eager to know about your interview with MSV genius. As already i wrote you, i had a chance to meet at evening 8.30 pm and had a chat with him for nearly 1/2 hour. I was provided some sweets and what a humble person he was! But, i was too overwhelmed to have any meaningful dicsussion on his music during that 30 min.
Regards
Jeyaram

Visu-Ramu's Padagotti & my favourite Aayirathil oruvan are great efforts for MGR. Thottal poo malarum's beat is so fresh & foot tapping. Atho antha paravai would make even the deaf shake their head. It is OUr (tamil) good fortune that they did not go up north & get lost ( figuratively!)

One Fact everyone have to accept it, Tamil Artists are being recogninzed by Hindi media is after 1990. Because, at that time only these new TV channels spread all over India becuase of the new economic policy. India got shrinked just becuase of the TV Channels. To promote thier channels, everyone wants to cover other states. But when MSV, KV period, India is vast just becuase of lack of communication. ARR/Harris Jeyaraj are hit, just becuase of this factor. This doesn't mean that MSV or KV are inferior to anyone in HINDI.
