I got the Lajja CD from North Jersey last sunday for IR's song. I find the 'Kaun Dagar' song mesmerizing. It is brilliantly composed with very nice interludes - violin, flute and veena (sitar?). The tune, as Lata points out in an interview, has really nice unexpected twists and turns.

The IR song in lajja is pathetic. IR said in an earlier interview that it was his policy not to work on a film that would have work by another music director. Then how come he did Lajja?

Listening to other language is a fun and pleasure? Enjoyed songs from usire, lajja and kks. Thanks raajangamCom. Is there any way you could increase the clipping size?:-)
Kathe, manase, enna maranthalum (Kathal jathi), enna paadaa, undan rajyathil, thillu mullu (Aandan adimai) songs are good. Hope that singers and lyricists (pp,metha and mutulingam) have done a good job in it. Naa.Muthukumar who penned the latest hit 'thanjavru raani' is also good in lyrics it seems. I wish that IR could have used any one of these lyricists for kaathal jaathi and Kavitha K for lajja .

...another interesting section is rare songs of ir. I thought pbs was the singer of kaise hahoon but he was the lyrist it seems . After a looong I hear this(in bubendar-sj voice) along with manjal veyil, devathai ilam devi(spb) and other songs. One more rare song which I couldn't find here too is 'aadi pattam thedi' from MMKR. I dont think the details like ir's work & achievemnets in other languages have been expressed well yet in this site but over all it is good!

you not liking Raja's Lajja song is absolutely your discretion. Some people will like it for its sheer soul and depth of feeling, but the majority, if you go by todays tastes will not like it because it is not the kind of foot tapping, loud bhangra style music that they like to hear.
As far as your doubtsregarding Raja not scoring for movies with other music composers, that is genuine question, and it would interesting to hear Raja's clarification!

had the *pleasure* to watch the movie "En Eniya Pon Nilavae" in cassette..... till today i thought "Solla thudikudhu manasu" was the most junk movie that i had seen..... well, now it has a competition in "En Eniya Pon Nilavae" :-).... wonder what Balumahendra had in mind while he took this movie..... may be he had thought to get an award - the movie should move slowly, if people cross a road, u need to show the entire sequence etc etc ..... man, what a junk movie.... atleast in "Solla Thudikudh Manasu" the consolation was IR's music.... In "EEPN" that was also not there.... total waste of time for IR... may be if i hear the song in a CD or audio cassete i may like it.... but BGM, well, lets not talk about it.....
one thing that took me by surprise was - in the titles, in the singers list it said "LR Eswari" too.... but then the music was by IR and MSV.... so for one of the junk songs - it was sung by LRE and music i am 100% sure by MSV.....

Digression:
Pavlov's dog is a illusive(not real) cause and effect(if you ask me).The dog salivates at the sound of the bell.The sound of bell doesn't produce food for the dog(as we all know).
So,IMO the illusive cause(sound of bell) doesn't deserve the effect(food).The bell sound is a bell sound, nothing more.

I don't know Pavlov's dog concept, but what i do know, is that tastes today are such that you may be forgiven for wondering whether Pavlovs dog would have had had much more refined tastes, with respect to music.
As far as my statement goes, it is not so much about cause and effect, as it is about a simple fear, that many music fans have!

hey Mr.12bums,
i dont hate something only because its by Raaja. I am as much an admirer of raaja as most of the people here.
But Kaun Dagar cannot be called a good song when you look at some of IR's supreme works. So people who are defending it are only doing so because of their blinding admiration for raaja.
Not every song today has that foot tapping quality to it. There is still a lot of soulfull melody around. I dont know whom are taking a dig at!!
