If you don't mind me doing the translation, here we go...
--------------------
Ilaiyaraja is that rare name which comes to one's mind when one thinks of music. The sweetness in the music produced by this man, who came into the field as a nobody and now has achieved unsurmountable heights, has no end. Similarly, there is no fan of music who does not admire the timeless nature of his music. IR, who has earned name and fame all around the world but still claims to be a midget in the music field, has recently composed music for a telugu film NCNL. He is in Hyderabad for the "re-recording" (read as BGM) in Ramanaidu studios when Eenadu approached him for a quick chat...
Q: You have composed music for a telugu film after a very long gap..
A: Not a big gap really, I have been busy in tamil although I haven't done much in telugu recently. Music is a continuous exercise, there is no question of a gap. If I have no music to work on, then I go visit the temple. But, music has nothing to do with the language, does it?
Q: How do you feel working with the present generation?
A: Music has no generation barrier either. What is more important is whether we are providing good music or not.
Q: What I mean is, the youth trend...
A: Trend simply means what is being listened to (or done) in the present day. People still listen to my music. So that follows the trend perfectly fine. However, the young generation's way of dealing things is very good and encouraging.
Q: You have worked with almost all big names in directors, actors etc..But now you are working only with youngsters, so...
A: To me music is important, not whether the director is a big guy or not, as long as the guy knows what he is doing. It might be difficult to work with a person who has no idea what he is doing.
Q: What is the motivation to accept this movie?
A: I liked the story and thought it would provide good scope for music. Also, background music will play an important role in the movie. That is why I am here today, to do the re-recording.
Q: What do you think about new music directors springing everywhere?
A: That is a good change, right? There should always be new people and new music. But it is important that they know their music properly before they start careers here.
Q: There are also situations where you will have to compose music as per the director's taste...
A: When I compose music, we all want the songs to be hits and live with the people for a long time. My music doesn't change even when directors change with the movies.
Q: In recent times, we observe a lot of noise-filled music which is there only to submerge the lyrics totally...
A: That is not my problem. As far as my music is concerned, you will not find any problems like that.
Q: Many young music composers pronounce you as their inspirationa and even go to the extent of calling themselves your "Ekalavya sishyas". How do you feel about this?
A: Obviously I don't have a problem with that. They might be saying such kind words with some sort of an affection for me. But the greatness doesn't lie in me.
Q: What are your thoughts on your children growing in the music industry taking up as their profession?
A: It is all upto them. Their interest in music has brought them to the stage where they are now. If they become famous, that is good too.

Not a mindblowing interview or anything like that. I guess the interviewer didn't have too much time with IR. But IR is usual self.

Another IR interview in the Telugu section of India info. Content seems to be pretty much similar to the one published in Eenadu.

I saw Kamaraj advt in Sun TV (new releases program). The bgm, as somebody has written here earlier, is from How to name it. I dont know if it is only for the trailor or in the movie also. The dialogues give the movie a documentary feel and not natural.

I too saw the trailer for Kamaraj. It was sad that IR didn't score fresh for the trailer, but merely recycled from How To Name It.

Dont worry guys, even if water doesnt comes out, it will come out in some other form, paani or some musical, tamil film or something. I am not poking fun, there is nothing wrong in reusing music in a sensible way.

bb,
I don't think IR will reuse his music for a movie like kamarajar ... producer could have insisted on releasing the trailer earlier, making IR to adjust like this for trailer alone ! I believe (and wish) IR will compose a new BGM score for this movie !

anyway, reading the article i can feel myself being transported to another era. It seems as though all they wanted to do was to lift the standard of music from what it was in 70's. if they knew what their effort would lead to in 90's, i wonder if they would have tried enough? but they seems to have got their kick in the process. now they don't care nor can they do anything about it now!!! pathetic

in the new millenium, there is one guy who is fighting a lone battle, when no one wants to. i'll wait for him to mature or others to show the way.
