Julie Ganapathy deserves a 7/10 rating. The songs sound fresh and somewhat different from previous IR fare of late, but on the other hand, apart from 'Kaakka Kaakka', the rest of the songs closely resemble one another. That is to say, it almost seems as if the album were just one big song. I can't say it's an excellent album, but it's good.

Good to hear again the old BM-IR touch in the songs. On initial listening from raaga.com, enakku piditha paadal and kaakka kaakka made an impact immediately. Remaining songs show promise to grow on me. Definitely fresh sounding songs from IR in some years.

Really amazed with the first number in the album Minmini paarvaigal By KJY followed by Enakku Piditha padal. On the lines of earlier melodies Viz., en inia ponnilave & raja raja chozhan this particular song can sent an example for the songs which were & would be composed in this particular scale.
First song's arrangement shows the potentiality and easy flow of music which is possible for IR only. Depends how the movie does but very confident that this is another milestone for IR.

Suresh,
"Kiru's repeated call for bass scores seems to have been met" I am happy it is there..but not happy with it itself. (compare this to naadham en jeevanE or even nee paathi naan paathi kannE).
You are right about the synth drum kit. Even En mana vaanil had sounds like this. Does not sound nice at all to me. Especially, when you compare it to countless number of drums based songs IR had done earlier. I am not sure this is really a commercial requirement. Anyways, I will wait to hear a better recording ..

Good or bad, some of these are created purely as an expression of one's spirit of creativity rather than as a creation for an intended audience. And..., those are the ones that contest for the test of TIME. Those are not created, in any stretch of imagination, for your or my liking.

Hi. Decided I'd raise my rating of 'Julie Ganapathy's songs. It's just one of those albums whose songs take multiple listenings to enjoy. There are plenty other IR songs that I've found to not like on the first listening but that get better each subsequent listening. Here are a few examples:
1. Ilamai Idho Idho from Sakalakala Vallavan
2. Thenna Marathile from Lakshmi
3. All songs from Avatharam other than Thendral Vanthu and Chandrigaarum.
4. All songs from Devar Magan
.... and several other songs...
The long and the short of it is, IR has NOT lost his magic, as far as I am concerned. :-)

Kamal’s New Film
By Moviebuzz
The Cassandra's can take a walk! Kamalhassan, the actor’s actor is all set to launch his new film under his own Raj Kamal Films. And the big news is that, he will be directing the film himself.
The film titled Chandiyar is the story of three Chenda (drum) artistes and their adventures. All the three are dark, evil and villainous characters. A Mumbai based actress will be the heroine. The shooting will start in April.
Kamalhassan, Satyaraj and Nasser play the three villainous characters. This combination is deadly and a welcome change from the usual mix. The music of Chandiyar will be by Ilayaraja. We can expect a lot of classical tunes for sure.
Hats off to Kamal for taking this bold and daring step, which we hope, will pay rich dividends at the box-office.

Pras,
Good news. I was looking for Kamal and IR combination. Kamal for one who can inspire IR as each respect's other talent.
Sure IR will come with flying colours as he did with Hey Ram.
