Fantastic songs !!!
This is real IR vintage stuff !!!
Shreya Goshal, Vijay Yesudoss, Prasanna all Dhool !!!
Ennakku Piditha Paadal and Thanni Konjam is still ringing in my ears !!!
Minmini Paarvaigall is good, but the above two are too good !!
The interludes of Idhayame really kicks up the soul !!
Heard it at raaga where the sound quality was not that great. Hope the CD will be a good listening.
Time for going back to raaga to get mesmerised again !!

Such a great feeling to see IR back in full flow! JG definitely holds a candle to all those glorious yesteryears colloboration of IR & BM.

Very good album.Vintage IR after a long time. The songs were not of good quality in raaga.com.Even that didnt prevent me from listening to it many times.
Enakku piditha padal and Idhayame Idhyame are my favourites. The lyrics were also good.

Doesn't the beginning of 'thaNNi konjam' sound like 'chandirarae sooriyarae' (amaran)?

"min mini paarvaigaL" sounds very interesting. But Audio quality is horrible. I hope IR/BM/KJY re-lived their moodupani days during this song.

Guys,
I am disappointed. I tried listening to the songs at www.raaga.com, and the audio quality at the site sucks big time! I literally couldn't get past the intro of the first two songs (my browser wouldn't let me). To exacerbate matters, I also saw IR's old albums 'Avathaaram' and 'Chatriyan' added, and I couldn't get into those! >:-<
Not to fear though. Usually song files from that site are later transferred to musicindiaonline.com. I'm sure this time things will be no different! :-)

Early thoughts:
1 Min Mini Paarvaigal - KJY - Tradition in BM's films of KJY singing the lead song maintained, though one really wishes he retired from singing. He sounds strained and old, actually detracts from any other merit the song would have. Just when you thought that orchestration is vintage IR, evoking a lush green landscape typical of his tradition for BM, the annoying synth/drum stuff make their intrusion that are beginning to mar many of IR's otherwise brilliant scores. But a relief nevertheless to hear the resurgence of the guitar/piano/flute combo. The charanams are a climbdown from the pallavi, nevertheless an interesting song. Forget SPB, even Charan or Harish or Unni would've elevated this song.
2 Enakku Piditha Paadal - Shreya G - ellorukkum pidikkum paadal! Shreya Ghoshal is an interesting find, many steps ahead of Sadhana in diction and a silky smooth voice. If it was Chitra,
Again, just when I was wondering at the resurgence of the bass score (kiru's call heeded), the electronic percussion introduces a faint jarring note. Lovely interludes, a seamlessly flowing song sure to be enhanced by BM's verdant landscapes. Good lyrics. Chitra singing and minus the electronics, this would've been a classic.
3 Kaakka Kaakka - Anitha - a situational song, with nursery rhymes kind of arrangement. Haven't listened to it enough, been skipping this one in anticipation of the next one.
4 Idhayame - Shreya G - surely called for a senior pro singing. Vintage IR solo, heavy interludes suggesting some dramatic scenes. A good song, my only complaint again being the percussion.
5 Enakku Piditha Paadal - Vijay Yesudoss - first song I've heard him in which he sounds good, in fact viewed against KJY's poor rendering he shines like a beacon. My pick of the album, enchanting melody with decent lyrics.
6 Thanni Konjam - Prasanna - if Shreya came through KR's lab, Prasanna comes via the YSR bandwagon. Another singer who is the skim-the-surface kind, giving no evidence of involvement. Even while one longs for SPB and Chitra to reappear in IR's seriously good scores, it is still a welcome relief from Bhava. Lyrics? Muthulingam seems to survive solely on IR's benevolence these days, with repetitive and tired words that suggest an early retirement for the man who's seen better days. Maybe Ramya K can add the erotic component, the lyrics are as raunchy as yesterday's idli!
Kiru's repeated call for bass scores seems to have been met, though one wishes BM had influenced IR to put the synth drum kit away and use natural percussion. An interesting album nevertheless, a worthy addition to the fine legacy of the IR-BM duo. Raising the expectations for the film and its BGM..

Thanks to Balu Magendran, IR has brought out a classy, stylish more or less a refreshing album that reminds one of Moodupani - however, minus the catchy and folksy melody typical of compositions last heard in in Manam Virumbuthey Unnai (1997), Ponnu VeetuKaran (1998) or even in Anthapuram (1999).
It only proves the point that IR needs nostalgia these days to push himself to give new sounds, if not melodies.
The orchestration is the highlight, very stylish and soft. There is contemplative mood in the songs. All the tunes had a reasonably natural flow, no formulaic pallavis, though IR seemed to care less about charanams.
I don't like the raaga (the mood or tone set) of the Idhayame song, in the last 3-4 years, IR has employed this mood in atleast one song in each of the movies -( sounds very cheezy or inbetween a time in the mall and redlight district type of mood it has got. I mean, i can't give a picture of the effect it has.)
Overall, very sophisticated album yet seems like a tired IR trying to bring out something for his devoted fans and moviemakers.

The poor quality of the files is distracting. But one quick listen to the songs and I didnt find anything spectacular or new, atleast tune-wise. "Enakku puditha paadaL" instantly reminds me of the pallavi of the popular "iraivanidam kai yendhungal" by Hanifa. They are not very similar though, but a strong influence could be seen.
Especially the "unakku pudikkume" part is similar to "urimaiyudan kettupaarangal". Nothing to beat "kalyaana thenila" from Mounam sammadham which was composed in the same scale.
In "thanni konjam" by Prasanna, the first line is a rehash of "maayavaram kanannukku maalai onnu seyya sonnen" sung by Pushpavanam Kuppusamy. The song is just typical fare.
And KJY sounded miserable even earlier in in "Rottora paatu saththam".
(I agree with others here that IR should use KSC more. But then, thanks to you-know-who the trend for the last few years has been to introduce "fresh" voices every 2 albums just for the heck of it. As a result, even singers like ShankarM and HH who were emerging as the successors to the KJY-SPB era a few years back dont find too many opportunities to sing these days. Singers appear and disappear before you could start registering their names in your mind. So I wouldnt be surprised if KSC just limits herself to MFM these days.)
"Kaakka Kaakka" was peppy especially with the way the singer rendered the song. However the song didnt held my attention throughout like how "all the time" from Nadodi Thendral did.
Overall, the album didnt disappoint me because I didnt expect much in the first place. Raman Abdullah was nowhere close to being great and I expected IR to come out with similar stuff.
Ponmegalai seems to be more promising at this stage. We'll see.
