Okay guys cool down. Maybe we should close this topic. Thanks.
I am just listening to "Poongatre..." song from "FRIENDS". Its a great tune with excellent interludes and very good rendition by Hariharan. I think its a gem. In my opinion, its the best song in the album. Also, "Manjal poosum..." from the same movie has pretty good interludes (especially the first one) and a very good charanam. "Poongatre"
Have a CHEERFUL DAY !!

Guys,
Did anyone listen to Johnny's bgm during yesterday's & saturday's Sun TV "sirappu seithi" segment? Do they always play that music during this segment.
Anyway, it is a TOTAL musical treat & my...what beautiful music(sadly not being able to concentrate on the news itself!)
:)

Just in case some of you did'nt realise...SPB, Hariharan and Shankar Mahadevan came together for the first time in "Kuyilukku..." song from Friends!!! Probably, another first's of IR:-)
...and though the Lajja song is not too catchy it has got some good interludes...certainly a song in a different and difficult rhythm (unrhythmic rhythm !!??) which only IR does...sure some MDs would realise this!!! (though i'm not..:-))

This is not the first time that IR has done just the background music for a Hindi Movie. For the Hindi movie "Hatya" (Govinda) which was a remake of "Poovizhi Vaasalile", he scored the BGM only while Bappi Lahari scored the songs.
In those days, it was talked about that IR charged 4 lakhs for the BGM alone while Bappi Lahari charged much less for all the songs. Just a bit of info.

This disappointing score gets an extra star rating for the stroke of genius that closes this album. The divine Lata Mangeshkar teams up with musical maestro Ilayaraja for the first time in a Hindi film. The Nightingale has sung Tamil songs for the musical marvel. This is her first song in Hindi for him. And what a coming together it is!
Usually, the mukhda is the most attractive part of a song. But Ilayaraja's Kaun dagar enters the stanzas with such rare and precise elegance, and his orchestration is so brilliant, you want him to do more Hindi films right away, especially now when the man who stole his thunder seems to be at his lowest ebb.
....
Lajja's songs once again prove that Rajkumar Santoshi doesn't have much of a music sense. Thank God for Ilayaraja, who is doing the background score of Lajja, and whose one contribution to this soundtrack in Lataji's voice elevates the banal to the beautiful.

(great intro for IR!!!
Sore throat:
The songs of Lajja have nothing special to offer, save a brilliant cameo by Ilayaraja. He carries the score forward from the banal.
(indeed, that is what the word is: brilliant cameo)

Digression:
Just in case some did'nt realise..., if one calculates the average time taken to compose music for a film by IR it comes to apprx. 12 days. This includes the songs and the BGM and all other work that goes into COMPLETING HIS PART.
Don't you think it would be impossible for anybody else to work like this!!?? Namba padarthu yellam oru paada!!! Paadu padarthunna IRthu. Besides this, he has been able to spend enough time with his family and perform his duties, compose non-filmi albums, carry on his religious pursuits, attend various public gatherings...etc., and also talk crazy (as some may call it) at times, put up with all the criticisms, overcome depressing moments, gain courage and become more determined to survive and succeed...and lastly of course (if at all it matters:-)), do whatever little R&D he could do in music, and yet safeguard the nativity...

Come on guys, let's face the reality, NO ONE IS GETTING YOUNGER AS DAYS PASS. Yes Lata is old, her voice showed that way back in Hum apke hain kaun. It is high time she anounces retirement. I think people are just praising Lata for the heck of doing it.
I just listened to the song from Lajja, it is really good, good orchestration. I think someone else should have sung the song. Kavita subbu would be my choice.

It could be on santoshi's insistence that Lata could have roped in. Even in Pukar(another santoshi flick) she sang a song and appeared on screen.
I doubt wether it could have been IR's choice. Well, these days he does'nt have a say in TFM too. I think he does the composing with a track singer and producer/director combo decide on the play back singer.
Laaja:
The song is well composed and as ramas put it could have sounded great whith Kavita Subbu.

Digression Srikanth exactly that. speed and originality. it is impossible to imagine that a human being can be this agile in conception and execution of an idea in so many, many, different ways and yet have time to be there for so many people in his life. again, in a way R&D would've come in the way in all of this ;;;;;;)))))

"Critic says the song by Ilaiyaraja is nothing to write about"
Who are these critics? Self styled internet based corrospondents whose credibilty is questionable.
I am not saying this b'cause of an IR song being mangled but in general these critics are nothing to write home about. Anybody with a pen(now a ketboard) can come up with a review.

My guess is that Sukanya Verma (Rediff) must be in her 20's and Jha (Indya) must be in his late 30's (or even 40's).

Subash K Jha is a regualr in hindu's friday entertainment editions. His review of hey ram, which is avilable in indya.com, would get him a free ticket to HCIR fan's club.
Regarding sukanya verma, less said is better. people in this forum can be better critique then her. To me personally, I would consider reviews in themusicmagazine web site are much better and knowledgeble than most of the reviews either in print or online media. Of course shashi reviews on rahman new movies too are good, though I would see him reviews other MD's work too.

Sukanya Verma had already mentioned in an article that her knowledge as far as music is concerned is very limited..so you need not take her reviews seriously..

Pretty interesting to note the ending word of the review,
Anu Malik doesn't do justice to Lajja, which is a shame considering he's capable of far better fare.
Hmmmm......for sure the IR song, is not much to rave about. But these last sentences is a total comedy of crap. God save authenticity.

Normal man, from what I have seen so far, Sukanya's reviews NEVER have any music-related points..its just her subjective opinions about which no one should give a serious thought :-)
