There are a lot of shops but the collection is not extensive. You can get a lot of IR's collection in MITA Music in Ritchie Street. You have Stereo Vision and many more shops in Ritchie Street.

You have Music World in Mount Road. It is really good. I don't u have CD's for the films mentioned by you, if u still need then u should contact the persons, who would have obtained the audio right for these films. Eg:Raja Music (IR's own company)
Pyramid Audio, Lahari Music. Present films of IR's are released by Five Star Audio it is in T.Nagar. There used to be one company in the mid eighties and early nineties which used to have bulk of IR's audio rights. (Unfortunately i could not remember the name).

If you have full internet browsing capability, then try checking "Consumer Reports" an objective survey publication of all consumer goods. These reports rate every brand name for every electronic product based on cost, performance, durability, etc. I find it very valuable.
I feel that, DENON is better than Kenwood. Also check out ONKYO, NAKAMICHI, and of course SONY brands.
I'm one of those enroute shoppers who has bought many great compilation CDs from Mustafa in Singapore. I find most of the US stores carrying only the stuff put out by Pyramid which usually throws one good movie's songs in between one or two other lousy movie's songs to make an average CD.
Now, about the Singapore CD place you talked about ,do they have a newsletter or website that lists the song list in CDs? Do they do taping of song requests? Are they willing to ship to US for a certain rate? Please, mfm, if you can give this information, I would be eternally grateful.
p.s. If you are willing and have the time to tape songs for me from your CD and tape collections, I would certainly go for that too and be willing to compensate your time, effort and cost. This goes for anybody who happens to have good recordings of early IR songs. If interested in this offer I can give you my request.

Echo does not exist anymore because 'Oriental Records' bought Echo and have the copy rights for many IR's songs (movies). When Raja opened his own company, OR did not have rights, so they mainly focused on classical musics. In my opinion, OR produces good CD's. The song selection is good as well as the recording. Before OR shut down the business, they had released about 25 titles, and most of them are really good. very few of them aren't great, such as 'Magnifient Mano' (poor recording). However, one company started releaing CD's under OR's name after the original OR shut down it's business. The recording is really bad. I could not distinguish between the original and duplicate.
Now a days, OR is started re-releasing movie combinations, some of them are excellent recordings which are far superior to brand new ones.
I can list some of them:
Maapillai, Thanga Magan, Kathal Parisu,etc..

U are right. However, most products come up with same features such as Dolby Digital 5.1, THX 5.1 and Dolby pro logic. However, the performance of these products strongly depend on the quality of the CD's and DVD's. If you use a Tamil CD's, it wouldn't sound different for different products simply because of the quality of the recordings.

Please give 1 or 2 days to detail about the CD shops in Singapore. Extremely sorry as I am busy right now. May be Sathiya Keerthi, Buddy can start first on their favourite shops in singai.

Vadivel, I'm ploughing through your collection, it's quite amazing. I may have some requests already. After I see the whole list, I'll get back to you.

mfm, periya manasuthan ungalukku but I value your efforts and won't abuse it in the name of service. We'll worry about that when we get there, meanwhile, please take your time researching stuff. I will find out about MD (MiniDiscs right?). Don't I need a unique player to use MiniDiscs? I don't think it will play on conventional CD players.

The best recordings (remember not by best songs)are as follows:

but Kalyaana Maalai.. from PPA was badly recorded becasue you hear ssssh noise in the back ground.

THENDRALE ENNAI THODU/SOLLA THUDIKKUDHU MANASU

IT is not the best, however, it is dubbed movie from telungu.
Pudiya Ragam / Vellai Roja / Pulan Visaranai
Rettai Vaal Kuruvi / Theerthakaraiyinilae /
Kannuku Mai Ezhudhu

In My opinion, these albumbs are the best recordings.

I also list the not bad recording albums. What I mean here is that, they are not the best, but at least, they are good ones.

Kadhal Oviyam / Kadalora Kavithaigal
KO is a bad, but KK is good.
AANANDA RAGAM/SIPPIKKUL MUTHU/THANIKKATTU RAJA
AR and TR is good, but not SM. I think SM is also dubbed movie.
AMMAN KOIL KIZHAKKAALE/NAAN PAADUM PAADAL
Generally AKK NPP are good. Paadava un Paadalai.. by sps is missing from NPP.
AGNI NATCHATIRAM/MOUNAM SAMMADHAM/ENKITTA MODHADHE
NINAIVE ORU SANGEETHAM/ANDHA ORU
NIMIDAM/PUDHU NELLU PUDHU NAATU Eduthu Vaccha Paalum by spb is missing from NOS.

They have been reproduced. However, some local companies in Canada and USA, also reproduced these titles. It is much easier to copy now a days.

5. SWEET MELODIES OF P.SUSHEELA
The song selection is good.
6. ENCHANTING YESUDAS
You'll definitely like this. The recording and the selection is really superb.
7. SOUTH INDIA'S GOLDEN TENOR
What Can I say. It contains Paccha Malai Poovu, suba velai Naalai, Paadi Paranta Kili, Mannil Inth Kathal, Sri Anja Neyam, etc.
8. RAGA'S OF RAJA
I am not sure of the selection of raga's in this album, but the recording is good. It has Kalai Vaaniye, Geera vaani..., Kaatrodu Kuzhin, Kathal Kavithaikal..., Vandadey Kunkumam, etc.
9. MOONLIT MELODIES
It has vennilavuku, pagaliley oru nilavai, Nilavey Vaa, Kalyaana thenila, Nilavu Thungum Neram, Vennila Oduthu Kanniley, Nilavondru Kanden, Paadu Nilavey, Vaanila Thenila.
You definitely don't want to miss this.

It contains sundari Neeyum, Sriya Paravai.., Potta Padiyuthu.., Megam Kottatum.., Pon Maaney Theduthey..., Raja Kaiya Veccha.

11. MUSICAL MEDLEY '88
It contains Radha Azhaikiral.., Tell me Tell me.., Madhura Mari kozhunthu.., Kathu Utha Kathu.., Arumbagi Mottagi.., Kodiyella Malligai Poo.

12. SINGING SKYLARK
It contains Oru Kili Uruguthu.., Chittu Kuruvi Vetkap.., Chinna Kuyil Paadum.., Aasai Kiliye.., Koo Koo endru kyuil.., Maanjola Kili Yiruku.., Neela Kuyiley.., Oru Kiliyin Thanimaiyelay.., Odai Kuyil Oru..., Kutathiley oru....
However, Solai Ilankuyiley from Ananuku j does not fit in the album.

13. LILTING LOVE SONGS
Generally the song selection is good. However, it has Aadalgalo.., kiss me.. from udhayam are not great songs.

14. "YESUDAS" - YESTERDAY & TODAY
The song selection is good, but few songs are badly recorded. Chinna Chinna Muthu.., Bommu Kutti Ammavuku.. are some of them.

15. SENSATIONAL HITS OF S.P. BALASUBRAMANIAM
Song selection are generally good. But Itho oru from sambavam and Deva Malligai poove from Nadigan does not fit very well with the other songs.
Poovoma oorkoolam.., Puthu Kaaveri.., Paatu onuu.., Deviyey Naan saranam, Samadham Thandhu.., etc.

16. FASCINATING MELODIES OF CHITRA
Though the recording is excellant, some of the songs are not great. Ethanai Perai Eduthu.., Pazhia kanavai thedi.., etc.

17. MUSICAL RENDEZVOUS BY S.P.BALASUBRAMANIAM
again the recording is excellant, but the song selection is not great. But some of them are really great. Uthayamey uyirey..., vizhi deepam.., Aavaram poovu aarelu naalai.., Ithu varai pattai...

18. MELODY QUEEN S.JANAKI
This album is worth buying it.
