i heard that the music for Marud is by Raaja and another guy named townsend from london. there is only one song, as of now, the theme number, which is supposed to be a killer one.

cram,
It must be Mr. mike townend who did the arrangement for Raja's "symphonic fantasy". Actually he arranges the string section for all KR albums. Check ullAsam or NINI , u'll find his name.

Who is this Mike Townend? Did he not work with IR in the Miss World 96 event. Seems like he is like Uttam Singh doing the conducting part of the songs in London. It would be good to get infor about this guy.

shankar,
i recently met an old pal of mine who assisted kamal in marud. he tells me about 30-40 min of the film has been shot, and that kamal has already sunk in 5 crore in this film.

bonus info: the first scene of the film is a 5 minute hand-to-hand "naked" fight between kamal and another guy, who i happened to meet sometime back in a totally different project. apparently, there's a scene in which kamal jumps from a 40-foot waterfall. this guy was amazed at he lengths kamal goes for a shot!!! kamal-aa kokkaa??!!

my news was right. with HEY RAM L.Subs will become a kamal regular. and you bet they will produce great stuff.
i happened to hear a L.subs fusion concert (with his LAKSHMI NARAYANA GLOBAL MUSIC ENSEMBLE) and this guy is simply the best. infact one piece , which he said is going to be the background score for an upcoming movie which refused to name, had the typical indo-persian effect and i have reasons to believe it will definitely be a part of marud.
and idont think any other inidian can do better BGS for films that need to be internationally marketable ,than L.subs.
i am raja fan alright.but i am sure lsubs is better.
and when we talk of BGS , Let us just talk about RAJA and Lsubs. ARR dooesnt fit here. we all know how he messed up iruvar and FIRE.that guy cant do BGS for nuts.

dear friends,
when we talk of originals , i dont think uttam singh desreves a place here. every song of DTPH sounded the same.i.e based on the same classical raga.
he is another ram laxman.he was bound to fade out.
but raja has been showing class for a looooooooooooooooooog time.
do you remember the scene in mudhal mariyadhai when ranjini's body is dicovered after the murder? when the guy throws his flute up and a sequence of events are shown while the flute is still in the air. the BGS was a flute orchestra master piece. i havent heard such descriptive inspirational stuff in my life.only raja could do that.
but then again class is there with L.Subs too.
i have a feeling the two may actually work together.since Lsubs does a lot of his recording in london and paris, it may well be possible that the two are working with this Mike townsend .
and i hope he is no relative of pete townsend(of THE WHO).

this is for all those who were bashing kamal left ,right and center.
It was Raja who rejected that offer. It seems he felt that the story of hE ram justifying the acts of Mr.nathuram godse and he also seems to have told that he's indeed missing one good project.
maya m,
Compare L subs conversation with HTNI. u'll know which is better.

shankar: have u heard l.subs in live in moscow? IMO, it overshadows HTNI.. of course, mud raking like this will be of no use, and the last thing IR needs will be a comparison with a person in a different ball game altogether. and i suspect this thing about he ram being pro-godse. the article in cinema express says quite the opposite!

BB: About He Ram(What does one mean He Ram? Is it as opposed to She Ram?): Kamal is non-committal about the theme in his interviews in AV and Kumudam. He just says: "What do you think of when u hear the words "Hey Ram"?That is my theme."
Now, this could mean anything. He even proceeds to add "I never considered Gandhi a mahatma". That should give us some clue:))). It is possible he might be justifying Godse's act. Perhaps, not probable, though:))
However, a few lines later , he adds "Gandhi was a
'maamanidhar'". Am I wrong in supposing Mahatma approximately=Maamanidhar? Honestly, he sounds confused and there seems to be a deliberate attempt to sound hi-fi but IMO , he failed miserably in that attempt(viz-a-viz the interview). And the part I liked best about the interview was this :
"There is a bengali girl character in the film. Thats why we thought of Rani Mukherjee. :))))
I rather think, he wanted Rani in the movie, hence there came into the movie a bengali character.:)))(Afterall, he is, conveniently, the scriptwriter!). What I ask is if there was a need for a bengali girl character, Why not Suvalakshmi, who is far better conversant in Tamil, and is quite a decent 'act'ress too(Atleast in comparison to Rani)? Anyway, that discussion is out of place here..:))
What does Cinema Express say ? Does it give any clue about the theme?
I ,all alogn, had this feeling that Kamal wouldnt have approached someone else unless Raja had declined. For all my indifference to him, his admiration for Raja is unquestionable. This story seems to corroborate that, unless we should doubt the veracity of AV, which has been much quoted as an authoritative source of Info on TFM, here in this forum itself several times before.
The magazine also reports that Raja sent a note later to Kamal saying " I know I am missing out on a super-hit sensational film.Still, I cant give up on principles". If this is true, I think you'll nod your head in appreciation along with me for Raja's stand.
But what bugs me is that Where did Raja's principles go when he composed for Kadavul, an avowedly atheistic film, which went to the extent of portraying Manivannan bumbling and stumbling as God, than which I cannot imagine anything more sickening:((. Didnt his principles rise to the surface of his mind then? That, to me , seems to be a worthwhile question to ask?
- From: bb (@ franck.crhc.uiuc.edu)
on: Mon Apr 5 07:36:49 EDT 1999
exactly! at that time, IR, in an interview (with kalki, i think) said that personal matter is different from his work, and went on to praise velu prabhakaran!

BB: You conveninetly took my remarks on Raja alone. What about those on Kamal?:)))
- From: bb (@ franck.crhc.uiuc.edu)
on: Mon Apr 5 07:45:43 EDT 1999
what about those on kamal??? i have very high regard for kamal's finished products and don't bother about his statements-misstatements-actions-inactions:-)))

BTW, the article in cinema express was not an interview;-) it says the film is about non-violence and extends till the 90s.

BB: But you will pick on Raja for his contradicting statements(as in Kadavul vsHey Ram themes-and-his-opposition-to-the-theme)?Whither gone thine (famed) objectivity?:)))
- From: Raj (@ master.hyd.deshaw.com)
on: Mon Apr 5 07:53:31 EDT 1999
And I never thought it was an interview:)). Yeah, I realised that and I dont think I have stated anything to that effect, have I?. QUOTE:
"What does Cinema Express say ? Does it give any clue about the theme? "
I am not LBW this time ,BB:)). Appeal turned down:))

on: Mon Apr 5 07:54:47 EDT 1999
as much as i don't believe in contradictory statements by kamal, i don't believe in raja's contradictory statements. in fact, what logically follows is that the whole gossip (regarding pro-godse and IR not working due to it) is false, which is what i have been saying all along. i don't ascribe that statement to raja, as much as i don't subscribe to the view of he ram being an anti-gandhi film. my objectivity is intact, atleast i don't go around crazy after reading a few statements:-)))

when there was no appeal, how can u turn it down?
