IsaiAdimai,
I agree to that point...
One song which I was really visualised like Bharathiar singing was "Kelada Manidane"...
Excellent work by IR.....
with all the feeling the song was rendered by the
singer... hats off to him..

Sai, One of the hardest thing, that any MD could do is giving the perception that he had while tuning, to the singers. I think IR did a good job by selecting Rajkumar Bharathy, for singing, since who else, would sing that song better than him. It is very easy to port the ideas, to a person like him, who had been breathing, in those songs.

Hello friends, I was reading with interest all of your views regarding Bharathi's audio tracks. Well, all I have to say was that it was excellent. I am saying this from the viewpoint of a listener who knows nothing about music or song composition. All I am is a fan of good music, I am the kind of person that people like IR makes music for. My favourite song from the movie would be Nirpathuve.
Excellent rendition by Harish R. I can't find words to express the wave of feeling I get everytime I hear this piece. I am a self proclaimed addict of this particular song. Th etune and the voice, along with Bharathi's poem mixes perfectly. Another sure winner since Kaathal Neethaana from TIME.
Someone mentioned KJY is losing his touch...with age. If there is one person that I think needs to retire is Mdm. Janaki. KJY is getting better each day and I beleive he is currently in his prime, as is his counterpart SPB.
I also agree however that MSV's version of Nallathor Veenai is still the best. IR could have done better. Bavatharini's voice somehow irritates me, other than this two drawbacks, the album is in fact very much to my liking.
Long Live the Maestro.

Ambleen,
To answer your question, yes, I am hearing Bharathy every day atleast twice and some of the songs repeatedly. Thats because I love IR's music so much as anyone here in this forum.
The real issue is whether the score for Bharathy is really class apart or not. Let me give you an example of what IR composed in 80's for Sindhubhairavi, the song "Manadhil Uridhi Vendum...". Whenever, I listen to this song, I feel the greatness of his lyrics with the added beauty or IR's tune. The tune is so good and the overall orchestration/music is apt for the song. I DO NOT get the same kind of feeling or satisfaction from listening to songs from "Bharthy ". IR has definetly lost his magic touch which he use to empower with in 80's. He sounds very ordinary in Bharathy and not extra ordinary. His selection of tune is average, orchestration/use of instruments is also very much average.
Just because we are Hardcore IR fans it does not mean that we blindly support all this compositions and grade an average score as extraordinary and so forth.
Sai, Isaiadimai:
It is not necessary to compose to Bharthiar's songs the way Bharathy would have sung it. Who knows how he would have sung a song when he wrote it. I would rather leave that to the imagination of the composer to use the right tunes for the songs. Was IR there listening to Bharathiar when he wrote those songs. ???. NO. He has used his own judgement to come up with tunes. But its not GREAT as everyone is exaggerating.

Dorai,
"IR has definetly lost his magic touch which he use to empower with in 80's"
you have hit the nail exactly on the head, you are 100% right, after ARR entry in TFM and the kind of response he got, i think IR must have felt that he deserves more that what ARR gets now
even now whenever i listen to the song 'nalladhor veenai seidhe" from bharathy i feel IR has mixed his own personal feeling singing that song, and now iam ready to receive all bashing

One song that IMO is the best number from the album and for some reason not being appreciated is Madhu Balakrishnan's "Ethilum Ingu IruppAn Avan YAro".
It is a number penned by Pulamai Pithan. A song with 100 percent quality lyrics after decades! Hats off to his Pulamai! I am still reeling under the impact of those lyrics.
And the tune is brilliant to say the least.(I think set to raga Rasika Ranjani... like 'Amudhe Tamizhe' from Kovil PuRa)
It has been soulfully rendered by Madhu. His pronunciation though very good, (sounds like Yesudas at times)can do with some improvement (usage of Ra and Tra). A near-perfect song, dedicate to The Almighty. My pick from the album!

Trisha,
Me too have the same opinion about Ethilum Ingu.
I just cannot go away from this song.
Everthing, from the music, to the tune, to the lyrics, and to the singer, is perfect.
Especially, when IR adds a violin piece at the end of the first/second lines of the song after the first charanam is marvellous.
Simply a great song.

Sridhar,
The song "Ethilum Ingu" is good, but the violin piece you are talking about does not have the IR's classical touch of '80s. It sounds like a TR Pappa or Bhajanai Padal style type of composition. Thats my first impression and usually turns out to be right.

Dorai - You have made your point. Move on. There is no need to reiterate what you think about Bharathy everytime somebody says something.

Nice to know that "Bharathy"s tickets are selling like hotcakes in London. The movie is going to be screened this weekend and
Thank God for that. And tickets are expensive too!

Suren,
Even here, in the Bay Area, i think, they are doing pretty good. in fact, normally, they screen only 3 shows for a tamil movie. but, for Bharathy, there are 4 shows. i'lve already got my tickets. i'll post about the crowd after i see the movie.

Dorai,
I think, u r looking at the music with a pre occupied mind. IR himself may think of a music he did in the 80s to be stupid which we may like.
so, it's only the individual perception.
though i like his 80s songs much better than any of today's songs by any MD, i still like this particular piece.
It seems to me that this song is used for a dheiveega situation. So, IR has taken to give a dheiveega touch at each and every point. Even Madhu's expression is flawless.
I don't want to compare this song with any other one. i rate this on par or above par with Poongatheve and Paartha Vizhi Pootha padi..
IN any case, try to listen to this song and orchestration with an open mind(possibly with closed eyes), then u may feel different about it.

Guys,
mail-bag.com shows that there will be 5 shows of Bharathi this week end. Increased by one more show? is that by demand or just an anticipation?
if by demand, then, we should not get disappointed with the movie. there is so much hype now.

Hi,
Was watching Mouna Raagam yesterday.
What a movie it is indeed? Each and every piece has been carved out with great focus.
ALso, the bgm score is awesome.
Some statistics:
In alaipaayuthe, there was only a maximum of 5 or 10 mts of bgm music which was other than the instrumental versions of the songs.
But in MR, i could observe the bgm at least for an hour which does not include the action based rerecording.(footsteps, door closing etc.)
That too, not even a single piece is an instrumental version of the songs which by themselves are great.
(there may be a small error in my observation but it's a fact).
In AP, we all spoke about the music piece 'Maangalyam Thandhu Naane Naa' when they get married in the temple.
How many of us know that the same has been done in MR(15 years back) with a different tune and beat.
Especially, the situation in MR is when Mohan presents the divorce papers to Revathi. I'm going to watch it again tonight and will post tomorrow more about that. if any of u remember about this, please share your feeling about this.
After i saw AP, i felt that it's a mix of many of MR's movies. Especially, MR,Anjali,Agni Natchathiram. Even MR's music has been used her AP.I think, Mouna Raagam(MR) must be Mani Rathinam(MR)'s most favourite movie in all respects.
more later,

Talk about Mani ratnam, who steals(inspires) God Father. He stole each and every scene from God Father and Control C (Copy) and Control V (paste)in his movies. Even Alai Payuthey is a lift from an English movie. Only one thing I like about Mani Ratnam is that he changed the tamil movie to a Hollywood range.
In his initial stages Ilayaraja boosted him a lot he even asked Mani ratnam to direct Pavalar creations movie Gitanjali. Even though Mani ratnam gave two flops. In turn Mani ratnam gives IR a back stab.

Gyani,
I see what u r saying. But forget all those.
Those are all their personal matters which doesn't matter to us.
Was Mouna Raagam an inspired theme?
(unlike Kandu Konden Kandu Konden, which is a direct copy of Sense and Sensibility)
By the way, which flop movies of MR u r refering to?

Idayakoil and Pagal Nilavu were the two flop movies before Mani ratnam made the third Gitanjali (tamil). He got recognised as a director from Mouna Ragam.
