Heard a song from Kandukonden Kandukonden, by Hariharan and Mahalakshmi, music ARR, filmed in Scotland, dancing by Aiswariya Rai and Abbas! It's
in Nalinakanthi, with touches of Kadhanakudhookalam.....FANTASTIC WORK BY ARR!!!!! Title song of the movie....director Rajiv Menon. It befits the Scottish scenes extremely well, the coreography is also excellent, the brainchild of Rekha Chinni-Prakash and Rajiv himself(a very talented singer he is, especially in Carnatic Music).
I was on the set of the film crew in Scotland, so got to hear the song many times. It's simply great. All the tourists in the area, English, American, Foriegn were mesmerised by Aiswariya's beauty and the song, they loved it!!!!!
Aiswariya also acts in Taal and this is supposed to have fantastic music, according to her and her Mum. Apparently, Subash worked closely with ARR and the output is great, "Very Northie".

I wasnt too impressed with KD either. Dhandia and Roja roja are good, but they are a rehash of nila kaigiradhu and suthi suthi (listen to the charanams), and raja..rani (varumai niram sigappu) respectovely. I'd like to listen to the MP3 version of it. any sites with KD songs on MP3?
Geetha, thanks for the info. Will look forward to it

Geetha, so you get to be on the sets of movies. You must be someone in London. keep it going and please keep giving us the latest. Does that song outbeat any IR song?

Hello Geetha
I am reposting this because I am expecting your comments.
This is about 'Minsarakanna' in Padaiyappa. Did anybody notice that ARR has tried to start the pallavi not from 'samam' but 1/2 atksharam after 'samam'.
He however starts the 3rd line of the pallavi back in 'samam'. Now, I am not sure why he did this?! Usually when a particular song starts after 'samam', it is usually (not always) for the reason that the last line of the pallavi extends into the first line of the pallavi and connects with the starting word of the pallavi.
I did not see any reason why 'Minsarakanna' must start after the samam.
Geetha--Did you notice this?

Hi Guys and Gals,
Don't just stop discussing KD and PADYAPPA(nothing worth to talking about), try Oonjal by ARR it's the same Doli Sajake Rekhna, worth listening. In KD, songs Enna vilai azhage.... and Kadhal ennum.... are the best and not the Maria.

Dont u people think that 'vetri padikattu' in padayappa is an embroided version of thirupugazh sung by TMS in Arunagirinathar? Also I think Nithyasree yells a lot in the number 'minsaaara kanna'. I thought ARR would have wanted her to sing it that way. But hear the song 'poova poova'
in poovellam kettuppaaar. She shouts well!

Did anyone notice Alan Silvestri's music from the movie RICOCHET in PADAYYAPA? Was it a complete lift or what? I also noticed a Jerry Goldsmith kind of choral work(from THE OMEN!) in ROJA.
Don't the Indian MDs(except isaignani of coz!!) have self-pride. How can they plagarize from hollywood soundtracks!!! Even Deva uses a lot of Goldmith's CONGO & FIRST KNIGHT, among others, soundtrack music in a lot of his films. Absolutely disgusting & absolute cheaters. Do they think not one Indian viewer will notice this & that they can get away?!
Gosh...these are con-artists!! And pls, if it is their assistants responsible for this....save it!! If they have no creavtivity & want to leave BGM to others then these so called MDs shouldn't be MD at all.
I guess true music lovers & the world needn't worry as they are still enriched by Jerry Goldsmith, Ilayaraja & John Williams. Thnk God!

In today's Dinakaran (25/5/99) Rajini's next
mov(i)e has been hinted. They say that it might go to Shankar and the MD would be you know who. (Give yourself a zero if you thought it would be IR)

Hi
I just wanted to point out the songs of Kadhalar Dhinam inspite of being 'above average' both in imagination and orchestration, has some definite influences from some 'older melodies'.
1. Roja Roja... has been mentioned numerous times by DFers to be a lift from the line 'Kodutha santhangaLil, En manathai, Nee ariya, Naan uRaithEn' from Varumaiyin niram Sivappu.
2. 'Enna vilai Anbe..'---the first line is very similar to 'Thangapadhakathin mElE..' (MSV melody). However, the rest of the melody is original.
3. 'KaadhalEnum ThErvEzhuthi..'---the bass lines and orchestration and even the melody in the charanams resemble 'En Uyire or Tu hi tu..' from Uyire. (ARR recycle)
4. 'Oh maria...' has lines that resemble the song 'Vaa Vaa En VeenayE..'(Gangai Amaran melody) at places; I will admit thought that this is not very striking and otherwise this composition is extremely creative and well orchestrated.
5. Also in Padayappa, the song 'Suthi Suthi Vantheenga..' resembles 'Unnai kandu Naanaada..' from kalyana parisu. It also resembles a rather kiddish patriotic Hindi songs of the late 50's--'Naana Munna Raji hoon, Desh-ka Sipahi hoon..' Now who was inspired by whom?!
Has anyone noticed these similarities?

Shashi, all songs seemed so familiar, now you got the pieces of the puzzle, thanks a lot. But, see the genius of ARR bringing back the old melodies. Particularly, suthi, suthi vandeeha!
