  Even the great Kannadasan has messed up with lots of songs, though i dont have the list now. How about valli, i think his lyrics are great these days, only with director Kathir. Otherwise its all crap. Maybe u all are aware, the songs of Indu were by Valli, including the all time hit 'Eppadi Eppadi'. So compared to valli (now), i would grade Vairamuthu better, in spite of his ocassional junk.

  Long live vairamuthu...
  I am proud to say poets with the calibre of Kaviarasar Vairamuthu is born in my mother land..
  He is such a great poet who can make even normal illetrate poeple to understand the sewwtness of Tamil. Some Windians(Who think they r from western country ) try to find mistake at his tamil talent.. Before they find fault with kavingar they should learn how to behave like a tamil..If they can write like vairamuthu i can agree they have the moral rigit to find mistake.

  There has been a lot of comments on what's totally wrong with vairamuthu.. being a Kannadasan fan myself, though I find certain lyrics of vairamuthu "kochai", I can give instances of Kannadasan going down to that level too. For example, "Senthazham Poovil Vandhadum Thendral".. this song has so much of double meaning in it. While one can relate it to being a description of nature, the verse "Pallam silar ullam ena yen padaithan aandavan" gives the implicit meanings away.
  
  Coming to the point of appreciating vairamuthu's lyrics. Consider the poetic paradox in the song "Enai kaana villaiye netrodu, endrum thedi parkiraen katrodu" from "kadhal Desam" - the verse goes like this - "Meiyaga nee ennai virumbadha podhum, poi ondru sol kanne en jeevan vaazhum, nijam undhan kaadhal endral".
  
  Another work worthy of mention is "Illai illai solla oruganam podhum, illai endra sollai thanguvadhenral, innum enakku oru janmam vendum, enna solla pogirai". such simple yet powerful lyrics are a trademark of vairamuthu's assertive expression of love.
  
  The metaphors in Vairamuthu's songs are really special. The song "nadhiye nadhiye" Rhythm is a very good example. The use of relatively non-colloqial sudha tamil is another quality that we should appreciate in Vairamuthu. In the present generation, when it is very tough to speak a full sentence without the use of english or foreign words, I think the use of such tamil in the lyrics should definitely be appreciated. Ofcourse, songs like "telephone manipol" can be a bit of overuse of foreign words. But in the same movie "Pachai kiligal tholodu" is a beautiful composition.
  
  Those who remember "Manitha Manitha ini un vizhigal sivanthal ulagam vidiyum", would appreciate vairamuthu's lyrical capabilities. In the current scenario when music is so loud and blaring, if we are still able to look forward to the lyrics, then the credit must solely go to vairamuthu.
  
  To finish this long message, we cannot compare 2 geniuses of different eras on the same platter. We have to give room for social changes and the way they could affect the lyrics. I would presume that half of the people who would have posted their messages wouldn't have understood the song "Narumugaiye Narumugaiye" from Iruvar completely. Yet these are the people who talk abt the use of non-literary tamil words in songs. One last piece of opinion would be that try to weigh the merits of a person by first understanding his period and contemporaries rather by comparing him with erstwhile geniuses. At this rate, people might compare Kannadasan with Valluvar and say Kannadasan was worthless.
  
  Appreciate good lyrics wherever it comes from!!

And your products with Raja are really incomparable. Why you again combine and give us back a very good musical songs. Because now the latest trend in tamil songs to leave the music & songs and give importance only to the Special sound effects given by the computer.
