  I think you were talking about musical for Shashilal., So we have to consider all movies and all musicals by/for Shashilal, How can you say 'This is more than good for Shashilal' without considering all his previous Musicals ?
  
  Just imagine - for some reason Shankar goes to IR for his next movie, IR composes a set of less than average songs and says 'This is enough for Shankar'., What will happen, Won't you come jumping ? 'ARR shankarkku pootta paattellaam enna arumaiyaa irunthathu, IR ippadi sollalaamaa'nnu compare paNNa maatteengaLaa ? Same is the case here, Please try to be unbiased when making an argument.

  If ARR is a genius, remember there are lot of geniuses coming up. Deva is another, Bharadwaj, YSR, KR, Harris and so on. Remember, nowhere in the dictionary they have mentioned that a tailor is a genius. Nowhere it is mentioned that a recycler is a genius.
  
  It is analogous to a programmer and a PhD. A programmer may earn 3-4 times than a PhD. A programmer may sell his stuff in the market easily. But if he is called a genius then I agree ARR is.

  I dont intend to discuss any more... to me the genius of rahman needs no explanation. Nothing has enchanted me more in the last decade than his music... his music is something to be experienced.

  I too love to hear Rahman's music. But exclaiming hin as "Genius" is totally unacceptable. For me he looks more like a manipulator than a great MD. The standard of Hindi music is much below TFM. Nothing much to add on this.

  firstly.. what i meant by 'this is more than good' for shashilal is that shashilal is defintely not among favourite people, unlike mani'.. so he neednt devote all his time to 12ka4.. moreover, 12ka4 being a commercial movie, the score is more than good, but surely below arr's standards..
  secondly.. some people have gone nuts in saying that arr is a 'manipulator' ! well, what does 'manipulator' mean when the same people say that 'genius' is nt there in the dictionary, or some crap..??

  Just noticed:
  "Sona nahi na nahi" from 12ka4 contains in the second interlude a human 'noise" that is exacltly the same which was used in 'Shakalakababy..'

  HI..I am new to this discussion but I would like to have my say as an Ex-Ilaiyaraja fan...I was disappointed in the years 1990-1992 - IR's music had gone dead beat...I used to buy every single music release of his and was greeted with sub-standard stuff - the signs of a genius in decay...growing old...a closed mind. ARR's Roja put me off at first but when I listened to it in Stereo..the real import of his music hit me.
  IR is 2D...ARR is 3D...very apt for the technology shift our society is facing. IR will remain a genius but a dying star...but ARR is the new-born shining Sun. What goes up has to come down...so you IR and ARR fans....stop cribbing...all good things have to come to an end.

  Every thread in this TFM in the last several months has degenerated into a ARR vs. IR, one time or the other.
  People who want to fight, find another place/posting for yourself - I think there is a thread "ARR or IR". Go there.

  I think the songs are not certainly the best that Rahman can give, but they still are much better than what we get to hear from most other MD's... Specially "khamoshiyaan" and "Dil ki Bazi" are really super songs..... and with more hearings all the other songs seem good enuf... certainly not an embaressment for Rahman...

  I was listening to Khamoshiyan. The ending of the first line sounds like the ending of InjeeIduppazhaga from Thevar Magan by IR. Incidentally, that song happens to be one of Rahmans favorite IR songs and was said by him in an interview.
