The review makes a scathing attack on the movie, says it's the kind of movie Kamal has attempted b4(Guna??)&when the people rejected a film like that where the narrative was simple,it's doubtful they will accept this one which is complicated&confusing.Says the music is ok but finds fault with IR's voice.Only the last 10 minutes of the movie is supposed to a victory of sorts for Parthipan as director&actor and the real hero of the film is supposed to be the editor.

This is what will happen if you release the album 2 days before the movie release. 2 good songs, one ok and one bad, but all reviewers found nothing good. People need to get used to the tunes before they see them in the movie. Even I felt that KR should have used somebody else instead of IR for adiyae.
Sureshmechit:
I think Parthiban usually goes overboard in the name of doing somethig different. But after reading your review (ofcourse I skipped the plot in it:)), I want to see the movie soon.

Cinefan,
I think he is only appreciating IR's voice in that song - he says its wasted in a movie like this :-?

NagaS,
i read the review again,i could not come to a conclusion whether i was right b4 or you were right. You see,i am not a tamilian by birth&my love for Kamal,Manirathnam&IR made me learn tamil when i was 18&i developed it by reading magazines like AV&Kumudam. So i may not have understood those lines in the right context.

I wrote the review after I listened to the album just once. After couple of hearings, 'onnu rendu' also sounds good esp Hariharan version. It has more "PRINCE" feel when he goes high pitch. The only disappointing thing is the way it was mixed (also recording to some extent). If it had been done properly, it would have been way better. I hope KR does something soon. So to me only the SPB song sounds average because of its age-old feeling. Rest are good.

Suresh:
I watched the movie yesterday.
First half: Wow, great attempt, refreshing and very innovative. The dialogues are well written, good editing and good background music by KR. I did not read the sub plot you wrote in your review and I did not read any other reviews before watching it. So after watching the sub plot, I felt the same way after I watched Night's Sixth sense. Clues are available all along that portion but I missed them somehow. Wow, that was well done, that made me to look forward to the second half.
Second half: Alas, he lost the concentration and it's kinda dragging. Innovative dialogues sounded so good in the first half started looking pale and sounded like over dose in the second half. It will be difficult for ordinary movie-goers to grasp the plot. He should have moved the movie with reasonable and simple screenplay. He also went overboard when he was talking about his mom's demise with madhumitha. The dog fight scene was lengthy too.
BGM: BGM was good. Though it is jarring at places KR has done a good job. Music in couple of places (when he receives bday blessings, also somewhere in the second half) reminded me of Guna's laddu receiving scene.
So many innovative things (moon kissing, kudaikkul mazhai etc) are there in the movie. Another example is he has used the theme music ring tone for madhumitha's cell phone. That was good thinking.
+s:
- dialogues
- acting (Parthepan, madhumitha)
- camera
- background music
- screen play in the first half
-s:
- somewhat confusing plot in the second half
Overall it is true that it is a bold attempt. If Parthepan would have done a better job in the second part, this movie would have been a classic. Also plots like these need just 2 hours or so, that way you can push aside unwanted portions and get to the point. But tamil movie directors are unwilling to reduce the length for some reason, it may be movie-goers expect 2.30 - 3 hours movie for their money.

(Clues are available all along that portion but I missed them somehow.) I put it in the wrong way.
Actually I did not miss the clues and I was following them, but I was expecting something else.

NagaS,
The theatre owners in Bangalore are most likely to start screening non-kannada films(with police protection) from this friday as the 7 week moratorium has not been conveyed to them in writing by either the govt or the panel which was setup. The govt is also not taking any efforts to solve the problem(is there a govt here!!!!).So they see no sense in downing shutters&waiting indefinitely while blackmailers&stupid chauvinists have a field day.So Kudaikkul Mazhai may just release here.As for TN,Sify in it's BO report says the film has collapsed&does not find a place in the Top 5 even in it's first 5 days.

NagaS:
Definitely it will be in theaters on 18th. Just now I saw the thirai vimarsanam on Raj TV, they gave a positive rating for it. She said "Kudaikkul mazhai, theatarukkul rasigargalin alai". Well, I did not see that alai while I went :) I don't watch vimarsanam on Raj, Sun, and Jaya. And I am not sure whether it is norm to give positive rating for all. If the media gives out good rating, it might run for sometime.

Nattamai,
I used to watch 'Thirai vimarsanam'on Sun&they used to be very frank in their comments.I don't know what happened but suddenly all films started getting positive reviews&so i quit watching.Even their Top 10 on Sunday is not genuine&they play up some movies or viceversa deliberately.

Cinefan:
I don't read/watch reviews either in print media or tv channels before watching the movies that I am interested in. In Ananta vikatan, I see how many points they have given, that's pretty much it. I watch Madhan's thirai parvai on vijay if possible for the movies I watched already or the ones I won't watch, I think he is better than other channel reviewers. He even admitted that it is not possible to make any harsh remarks because the makers will get offended. This might be the case for other channels for not criticizing anything. I don't think people realized that this will do a negative impact on creators. And all top 10 movies are same. They arrange the movies according to their tastes/benefits. Always it is better to conclude the quality of the movies by ourselves :)
I forgot to add couple more points in my message:
- There are only three songs (ennannu, adiyae kiliye and pada pada vena) played in the movie, rest are gone to trash. Well IMO movies like this need not to have any songs. The songs might have been the commercial elements of this movie that Parthepan was talking about.
- A thin line for the sub plot has taken from a hollywood flick. But the way he presented here was damn good and new to tamil audience.

, kr recording is not good as said before in this thread, when in 97-98 his recording in Grahan , Ullasam , NAm iruvar were good as he was very closer to rahman in quality , he should try using Galactica in mumbai again for recording and in DUMDUMDUM AR team worked for him the result good , so he should change his team .
Many directors want him to do what Senoir raja would have done, Even parthiban Engee pooven song reminds Enge NIMABATHI From Nadigan ,and adiyae kiliyae resembles alamarathu kiliyae from ANNAN for this films senior did the music.he should break this junk Imitation
