IR's new albums!

  Ignoring YSR's praise was absolutely coincidental. As usual I was trying to format my thread's opening arguments so that I dont sound like a ARR fanatic, but I think I goofed entirely my forgetting all others.
  
  Yes, I consider YSR's MTV as the most enjoyable album of 2001 (a tad better than Paarthale in fact...I loved the variety in MTV). I will not say I liked Kaasi though. But in that case, I hated Alli Arjuna too.

  :-) pras..."adi poonguyile" is a "lesson/case reference" for anyone who wants to create a 'melody' without much fuss. How effortless the song feels...especially the repeated use of the lines "yaaridathil un manasu pochu, noola pola un udambu aachu"...immaculate song...u just cannot place it under "modern" or" carnatic" or "folk"...thanks for naming this particular song...

  oosai, Karuvelam Pookal is not a short film. It's a full fledged feautre film. I think the Lenin movie you're referring to is knockout.
  
  I remember a short movie (not a movie actually) that was telecast in dd a long time ago. It was intended to spread awareness of leprosy. I didn't know IR had scored for it till the end - when he sang the concluding song :).

  To all HCIR fans,
  
  Listened to the CD songs from "Azhagi", Aandaan Adimai" and "Kaasi" recently, I have not switched to any other CDs in the past 2 or 3 weeks.
  
  Azhagi songs are good,
  Oliyile therivadu is one of the greatest songs ( this does require a separate thread to discuss as started by Dravidian)(IMHO) in recent compositions by Maestro, my God, it gave me a feeling of Guna seeing Abhirami ( rami.... Abhirami). This is a must listen for every IR fans, just mesmerizing, this one song will be enough to lengthen my music listening life by another decade....
  "paattu satham" by SS is another super duper by IR, the second interlude music takes you to another world , ( which we had not heard from IR for quite some time)
  "Oru sundari vandaalam" is good too, I am sure this song would be apt fit for the situation in the movie.
  
  "Kaasi" songs , each and every one is spoiled to the core by the nasal Hariharan ( this does deserve another thread for discussion, as already pointed out by somebody).
  Hariharan deserves the best award for spoiling good songs. I was and still a fan of his gazal songs, he is just good at only that. I am really surprised why SPB was not IR's choice, although, till recently, SPB was singing in IR's songs ( great songs in Kaakkai Chiraginile),
  Just to compare, I was listening to "Kizhakku Vaasal" songs sung by SPB, for Karthik's character, who runs with some kanjira type instrument singing folk songs in that movie, one can appreciate the emotions in the songs "Paadi paarandadadi" and "patch mala poovu".
  We really miss SPB very badly.
  
  Coming to tunes and songs per se, they are good in Kaasi, may even have better effect on movie.
  
  "aandaan Adimai", I though couple of songs were ok, with one great song "undan raajiyathil" by Ir and chorus.
  
  Raaja....undan (isai) raajiyathil yaarum ingu anaadhai ileyyappa"..........
  
  Long live Maestro and his great music.
  
  By the way, happened to watch 2 Diwali releases, by 2 Non IR MDs
  1."Nanda", songs are Ok, BGM no way close to any IR movie. I mean YSR requirs lot of encouragement, he is talented, but I am sorry to say, IR is inimitable in BGM. YSR in fact fails miserably in many sequences, where IR would have done wonders,. The movie is average, do not have too much expectation, screenplay is not at all good. Good acting by most of the charcters though.
  
  2. "paarthale P", by ARR, Very average movie again, songs average..."Neethane en desiya" is the only solace, BGM as usual sucks big time.
  What a difference, KB + IR = 5 movies (including the the telugu and tamil versions of UM thambi/Rudraveena)-> 2 national awards for maestro ( SB and Rudra veena), great songs in every movie, including the Aval oru thodarkadhai part 2 (Manadhil urudhi vendum). Great BGM in all the movies especially Sindhu B and Rudra Veena.
  
  KB+ARR= 2movies, no national awards, Duet songs were good indeed, but PP total waste. BGM just horrible.

  Prabhu Das, oLiyilE therivadhu song is a very innovative song I think. I have never heard an arrangment like this before. IR proves yet again that to do something new, you dont have to look outside - the music is inside you !!!
  (I wish somebody knowledgeable in music writes a detailed review of this song. The beat sounds modern but it seems different ??)
