Yesudas or SPB - who's the most versatile ?

Dear friend,

Many of my Kerala friends here are hc YD fans. Some of them have heard only a little of SPB. He is just an other singer for them. But, I feel that SPB is far more versatile than any singer in TFM( why ? --in contemporary IFM also - past or present) This is not to belittle YD , who is one of the gifted singer. I just want to throw this to your discussion. Post your comments please.

  Thats true, there is no point in talking about the number of songs. If you are telling SPB did better in TFM the same way KJY did in malayalam
  he is a icon in MFM&CM. last 30 years KJY is the
  king of MFM nobody is there to compare him in MFM
  but in TFM lots of others like mano, KYJ, hariharan.........KYJ did better than SPB in other languages like hindi,bengali and classical

  Going by what you say - Wordsworth wrote say 100 books, Keats wrote 200 . So Keats > Wordsworth??
  
  Or PS has sung 30000 songs, SJ has sung 15000. So PS > SJ ? And again AM has done many more films every year than ARR (including ARRs work in Tamil/outside India). So AM > ARR ???? Please dont say atleast that the last one is true!!

  NONE. There were and there are greater versatile singers.
  Can you ever think about them with great Balamuralikrishna around?
  Can you imagine them singing to the range of TMS or Sirkazhi with the same scale and diction and musical perfection?
  THEY ARE PLAIN AND SIMPLE SINGERS WHO DID THEIR DOMINATING JOB PERFECTLY. They managed to be good businessmen to occupy mulilingual songs. They paved a way and now Hariharan, Shankar mahadevan etc are following it.
  
  They both are EQUALLY GOOD VERSATILE BUSINESSMEN SINGERS, and ofcourse, one in a twenty of their thousands of collections, with lack of genuine competition of voices, will definitely be a hit.

  u mentioned abt PB sung 30000 and KJ 15000 that is absolutley wrong KJY sung 40000 songs if u have doubt pls check this link

  I never said KJY sang only 15000 songs - it was SJ (S Janaki - go to www.sjanaki.com for the same number)PS has supposedly sung around 30000.
  KJY has sung about 40,000.

  going thro' the response , i feel people are counting the trees & missing the wood. one fan of balamurali krishna has dragged his name into this topic- unfortunately- for eventhough BMK was / is good at carnatic music he got caught very badly in playback singing. He did try in Kavikuyil... but i think SPB would have done a better job.
  the point is SPB has sung songs ranging from frivolous.. Poondamaleeile oru ponnu pinnale to serious & sublime ... shankara with greater panache than KJY. stistly going by voice. KJY wins by a mile but SPB score over KJY in versatality by at least a couple of lengths.
