Philosopher,
Nice to know that you heard the OON songs..they are really good. There are five songs in that film, Oriental Records have a BAD habit of omitting the songs in the CD. If you see their early version of Gopura vasalilae/varusham 16 did not have "Thaalatum Poongatru" song in Gopura Vasalilae.
Check for all the song details of OON film here...

"En Degam" is rendered very good by SJ...what a great song indeed.

Guys
Those old songs r great - no question about that. Listen to the latest kathal jathi - The songs r unbeleivably good. (PArticularly the song enna naan maranthalum is a master piece by Raaja as good as thalattu maariponathe song). Kathe song by Karthik will also stay in our mind for ever..... A classy album by the genius,

Thanks, you are right - I already had Gopura Vasalile - It did not have "Thaalattum", one of my favorites, which is why I bought this one again yesterday and this one is missing one song in OON...anyway, I will check Raajangahm out

Hi! Philosopher!
ARR has 'Chinna Kannan Azhaikiraan' influence in 'Kandukonden Kandukonden'not in Azhagana Ratchasiye.

Hi! Philosopher!
Thalaiyai Kuniyum is from Ananda Gummi, not from Oru odai Nadhiaagirathu. All the songs in Ananda Gummi are good.
If you want to hear two uncelebrated great songs of IR in which he has used chorus effectively, listen "Paadum Neram ithu thaan ithu thaan' from Soora Samharam and "Naan Porandhu Vandhatu Raajavamsathile" of Maya Bazaar 2000.
Excellent songs

"Thalaiyai Kuniyum Thamaraiye" is from Odai Nadhiyagiradhu only.

Hey,
I think I have posted this before.
Deva lifted "Paadum Nerum ithu thaan ithu thaan" from soora samhaaram to make "Singapore selai" in Kalki. The tune in this KB's movie is a complete copy. Does anyhave a link to these two songs?
"Thalaikuniym thamarayai" is from Oru odai nathiaagarithu, a Sridhar movie.

I have been to Tamilnadu recently. Noticed couple of interesting things:
1. There is no one-man domination in the film music industry. I think that ended with Raaja. People listen to everybody from IR to SAR.
2. If at all a music shop has a name board with a picture, then it is still Raaja's.
I watched 'Planet of the apes' last week, the score is done by Danny Elfman. In many places, it reminded me of Guru score. Lajja's background score sounds good. Anyone knows when it is coming out?

MOR, Danny Elfman is definitely doing IR. Looking at MIB opening and closing scores. Elfman, I read does listen to Hindi film songs!!! or do u think many of IR's movies screened at the oscar and cannes nominations, elfman could've taken from there?

I don't think so. Western composers watching indian movies is very unlikely. To them asian films mean oriental films, nothing more. One exception is Satyajit Ray's films. They are not interested in Indian commercial films. Raaja's BGM style is completely different. In the book 'Ilaiyaraajavin Isaiyum Azhagiyalum', he has mentioned that BGM in western films might be very much clear but there won't be much varieties. He wants to change it always.
What I was trying to say in my previous posting was the similarities between the scores. I felt that way, has anyone else seen it? The music comes at the end is also interesting, western classical part is changed and mixed with techno stuff. I liked it.

MPR,
i was abt to mention how absolutely amazing the BGM for Planet fo the apes was. I just saw it. It is NOT similar to Guru.
The BGM for planet of the apes is so good. u can see the movie just for that (infact thats the only good thing abt the movie)

MPR it is interesting that someone had started your argument in 1998 itself under the discussion title : Maestro Ilaiyaraja has to change style radically. ..( I mean Danny stuff )

eventually who won it? but i read it in one mag that Elfman likes listening to hindi film music and ti si not suprising to note that his style is radically different from all hollywood composers and follows patterns of scores done by Indian composers. but, definitely he is a deep admirer of IR in many places. Elfman came to the scene much after IR and I know for sure and his scores were so few initially until Batman released in 1989 i think.

Bharath ---> Have you seen Guru (mallu movie with Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi). See it first, infer for yourself and then post.
I've told this upteen times, GURU is something rare to have come from IR in the recent past. Amazing sounds and compostions, in the songs as well as the BGM.
Also I totally enjoyed the small BGM piece in the Lajja trailer. One disappointemment though is, there was a trace of synth Cello/violin used. I would have preferred a natural one.

Tamil being, a lunatic cannot spend time on this thread. But how the hell does a lunatic know that he is a lunatic? He doesn't. He can't understand in the first place. That is why he jumps in with the the question not knowing that he is himself the answer to the looney question. Take care, wherever u r. leave others alone for a little more time... btw, are u at Kilpauk? u got internet there? how is the connection?

Bharath, MPR
One more good thing about POTA is Tim Roth's acting, and the pain they have taken to train all the main characters and extra's to walk like APES.
BTW, coming to MPR's claim that There was some similarity between IR's score and Danny Elfman's score in the movie POTA...Here is my opinion..I did not find any resemblences AT ALL. But previous DE score for Good will hunting(esp. the opening titles) had heavy resemblences of IR style. A British musician who had worked with DE(for sleepy hollow) when asked about this, replied frankly that"since both of them follow folk style, DE - Irish folk, and IR - Indian folk, there might be some resemblences".
Mossad,
You might through some more light on DE's passion for Irish folk.
