hey guys,
sorry, i think i have been misunderstood! I am not taking a dig at anybody!
I may like a song for some reason, which others may not and vice versa! Absolutely justified!
What i was getting at, is that nowadays, i have a feeling, the general tastes are more towards feel good music, which, like fast food, catches your attention at the first instance, but does'nt linger for a long time-music that is catchy, but without bite!
It is reflected in the quality of music, we get nowadays, is'nt it!

I dont think we are getting only feel good music these days. On the contrary I feel that the same old melody is still present, only that it also feels better because of the advances on the technical side.
Take for example, a song by Raaja called 'Poovarasan Poo' from Kizhakke pogum rail. (I hope I am right). Ilayaraaja repeated the same song (at least the Pallavi) in Siraichaalai for the song 'Aalolankili Thoppu' (he did changed the rhythm) but this time around it sounded better because of some high quality percussion in the background.
And I do believe that we are getting better quality music these days than we used to get some 10-15 years back.

Guys,
I came across India Today Magazine yesterday. It has a review about Lajja. It ditched AM for his soulless music. But, it also has said that IR also disappoints. Have any body read that review? I really don't have time to search it in net and post the link here. Check it yourself.

>>>Illaiyaraja cannot be termed a film music director. He is a composer who happens to be working in the film medium all these years.
I know what I and millions of others like me want from IR. It's not film music any more. He should do globle music and should join the elite group of his contemprories like ZM, ZH , LS etc. Infact he is there, its just that he has to do that for all academic purpose.
I know what I want from him.
Probably IR should realise what is actually expected of him. There is nothing left any more to do in film music. It is not possible by keeping low profile as said in the article. Then he will become an other Sivaji Ganesan - a wasted talent - unearthed diamond.
Words are from my heart -- beleive it.

hi lama,
I didnt know you couldnt smell ponds powder
thanks for the info.
I think I have a right to criticize because in his days of glory, i have praised him no end and enjoyed his music to a great extent. Its only my frustration thats coming out here.
So it would be better for you to shut up rather than to behave like a pig.

koroda,
i do believe that 1996 or 1997 is still a part of the modern era of music. There were much advances on the technical side by then.
I guess Raaja also used 'dts' for the first time with Siraichaalai. So I think there is anything wrong with my example.

Raja is the best. There is nobody can avoid this.Lajja song Kaur Dagar is really very very fresh and great. This kind of music is only can do by IR only.Raja is the genius of music.So...don't concentreate in Newspapers rubbish news about IR.That all is lies.Which person is knw music well only can know Raja talents.MD just like AR only very very small child to IR.IR is the God of music. We must be glad to have a Indian composer who well known not in India only but to the world.

Onnum puriyala.
But, one question. Why every time you (and almost all IR fans) have to pull the legs of ARR? Don't you have any independent arguments.? Why should why should your interpretation of IR's glory has to be like a parasite on ARR's name?
Tust think.

anyway, what's wrong if ir has changed his mind about doing only bgm?
it will be interesting to analyse the reason for that instead of critisizing him without knowing anything.
but, he is like the iron gate.

hihi:-),
I would prefer seeing a movie which is not based on "Scent of Green Papaya".I thought Jane Austen's "Mansfield park" starring Frances O'connor(who acted as Haley Joel Osment's mom in A.I)had a (loosely)similar theme. At least the plot lines were similar upto a certain point.

I happened to listen to "Oru Odai Nadhiyagiradhu" songs, an old IR movie - I was impressed with all the songs - they were very different and good.
Particularly, I liked "Thalaiyai Kuniyum" and "Thendral ennai Mutham ittadhu" - I remember ARR saying in one interview that when he composed "Azhagana Ratchasiye" he had to make sure he did not have influence of "Chinna Kannan", but I'm sure he has had an influence of "Thalaiyai Kuniyum" sub-consciuosly. Also, I found a song by YSR in "Ullam Kollai Pogudhe" having a strong influence of this song.
There were 2 other songs sung by S. Janaki "en dhegam" and "kanavu ondru" which were also good.
I do not know if the movie has any other songs (these 4 songs were bonus songs of a CD with Gopura Vasalile and Varusham 16 I bought yesterday)

Sorry YSR song with influence on "Thalaiyai Kuniyum" is from Thulluvadho Ilamai and the song
is "Theenda Theenda"
