Does the LAJJA screening by Raj Santoshi have anything to do with his plea for a BGM score from IR?
His films, (as is the case with most Hindi films post Laksmikant-Pyareal era) usually had other MDs like Vanraj Bhatia scoring the BGM. My guess is that he probably wants IR to lift up the scenes with his BGM. What say?
If this guess turns out to be right, I wonder why these directors do not aproach IR for the songs as well? Is it because he can't sell like the mediocre Anu Malik's albums (which of late are ghost-directed by the likes of Ranjit Barot)...
I would love IR to give a Guru-like score to HFM and tell them what GOOD MUSIC is!

If you listen to the 'original' of 'kaNgaLin vaarthaigaL', you will be more impressed. The songs in KV are actually a rehash of those in the kannada movie, 'nammooru mandhaara hoovE'. When this movie was remade in tamil, IR reused his tunes also.
The only difference is SPB sang the kannada songs and everyone knows the difference between Arunmozhi and SPB :-))))

Re : I would love IR to give a Guru-like score to HFM and tell them what GOOD MUSIC is!
IR has indeed given good music to hfm audiences and they have liked it too. sadma is a good example. But i think the USP of the hindi films with IR as the MD seem to be totally something else, unfortunately. take Kaala paani for instance - it was publicised as a period movie and the cells of andhaman etc and not the music were given more emphasis when it came to selling . but the more popular IR numbers sold under the names of other guys have boosted the films' prospects - like the foll :
Rakkamma kaiyathattu -Anand milind - tu tu tu tara
inji idupazhagi - Anumalik- payalen chun mun and most of the score for Virasat
SOME XYZ for the hindi version of Chinna thambi .
Unlike what most of the DFers think , there ARE discerning listeners in the north too. but yes, the average hindi speaking listener is unaware of IR just as the average listener in madurai or thanjavur is about Laxmikant pyare lal etc ..so a heavy south indian folk based music or a composition based on carnatic wouldnt sell much .so it has got to be something closer in style to their own .IR would have no doubt given it to them if he had more chances to do that. also , the absense of a huge nation wide hit (like Roja for ARR ) of a IR's film could be one of the reasons why IR hasnt scored for many hindi films. may be if he was working with the likes of Mani ratnam for sometime more, he would have got a better platform in bollywood. this of course is no statement to belittle his genius but only to drive home the point that marketing could have been easier .
btw, did he score the music for the hindi film muskurahat ( * ing revathy - a remake of the malayalam 'killukam ")

Sorry for the digression..just had to write in this thread.
As I type, I am listening to ShakthiFM (Sri Lanka's Internet Radio station). Man.. what a super duper station.
If you are a IR fan, please please tune in at 5pm EST everyday. The program is called "Illam Thendral". 99% of the songs are from IR movies and god.. this man has done wonders..
The song playing right now .. "Nilavu Thoongum Nerum".. just whips me back to the 80's with its own load of memories.
Hey.. the next song is "Mandram Vandha Thendraluku"...
If you are a IR Fan... you ought to be proud..
Three Cheers to Isaignani..

R, I am sure music of Muskuraahat is not by IR. I vaguely remember that it is by Anand-Milind (I maybe wrong) and atleast one song sung by M.G.Sreekumar.

I agree. But the difference b'ween Arunmozhi and SPB is impossible to bridge. The kannada song is available at
