Well according to dinakaran TAJ MAHAL is still under production so it is not shelved and gazal singer is singing the title song.The song is said to be the hit of the year.

Regarding ESK, some people had stated that two of the songs will surely find an entry in the top 10 list this year. They mentioned about songs like 'jimbalakkadi' or some stuff like that. Is the album released or not?

Atlast ESK is out (atleast in Singapore)There are six songs in this film.
Singapore radio played one song sung by Unnik and Chitra.
The song is a folk type song -just an OK song.
Unni should consider retiring from TFM-he sounds terrible whereas Chitra is extremely good. The song, i guess, is a difficult song to sing..lots of up and downs. There was a nice violin interlude between the 2 charanams.

I strongly echo your view about UK. He regularly spoils 'light' songs with his combination of 'mallu' accent, unwanted brigas, and a 'baseless' voice. I hate to put it this way. But there is something very non-manly about his voice (and his singing style doen't help either).

For a minute, I thought you were proposing reverse-colonialism by suggesting that we South Indians take over U.K (England) :))
Anyway, don't you think before that, we ought to

1) campaign to make Udit's thondai adaichufy every time he boards a plane to Chennai
2) campaign to pin down HH north of vindhyas
3) campaign to send Deva on a personal thank-you trip to each of his generous "sponsors" (inspirations) worldwide, so that way he comes back to TFM many, many years later!
4) campaign to stop IR from singing for actors who will be as old as our children (4 yrs in my case:)
5)campaign to provide free ear plugs with every cassette that has the likes of Suresh Peters singing in it:)

It's about time ARR has decided to use Chithra again! I think the last time she sang for him was in the Hindi film 'Kabhie Na Kabhie.' He's also consistently using M.G.Sreekumar these days.

TOday i listened to second song 'theendai'-kalakkals. The song is very different from regular ARR songs.SPB and Chitra kalakkufies(Im happy the song was not given to Hariharan). Vairamuthu has written some complicated words(similar to 'narumugaiye').

My comments on 2 songs:

5. 'thirakkaatha koottukkulle'(UK,Chitra) - ok sounding song with rich orchestration (piano interlude is good). The line '..pillaigai pole aanom' ends like Neelambari (imagine the alap before 'en veettu thottathil'). The anupallavi 'pattaampoochi pattaampoochi' is set almost identical to the tune for the line 'ettu maadi veedu katti' in 'kaathu kaathu' (uzhavan).
4. jumbalakkaa (Mohd "Singapore" Rafi): Something like a ceylon 'pappaisai' paadal, in a kind of spanish style. Rafi has sung with lot of enthu, but not so good. In the lyrics, Vairamuthu is comparing the long hand running behind short hand, with the lovers. (For those who don't know, Rafi is a popular singer,composer,musician in singapore. He has sung in 'enna kaanavillaye netrodu' with SPB,O.S.Arun. There was a long interview with him yesterday on radio. He recounted the experiences while singing the song. )

forgot to add.
In (5), I think UK has made to modulate, a la Mano's screeching shouts, whereas chitra sings in her usual voice. That may be why UK sounds horrible in this song.

Tidbit: MSV is going to sing for ARR in 'Sangamam' with Hariharan. Apparently a folk song. I can imagine Hari singing 'hey.. paattukkaara pechimuthu' and MSV shouting 'pazhaya paattu irukkuthaa.. ammaa manasu thavikkuthaa' briefly in the middle.
