Guys,
Hey Ram! tapes and CD's have been released on 5th of this month itself. (both Hindi and Tamil versions). The tunes are very different and one can expect some time to get a hang of it... Personally i think it's a job well done.. i can't wait for the release of the movie...

Thanks G.Suresh
Tirunelveli songs are also so cool. Ilaiyaraaja has started experimenting with new instruments and sounds but sticking to his regular style of tunes. This album will get into you as you listen for 2 times atleast.
But Suresh is there only 4 songs in it or any more or any repetitions

Rama:
Olai Kudisaiyila and Kattazhagi Pottazhagi is just terrific numbers.
There are totally eight songs with Olai Kudisaiyila has Bavadharini's version. One song is a bit song by Sunandha, a pathos and one group song.

guys
i am a silent follower of all your discusssion threads. I feel the Hey Ram title song and the Ola Kudisayile and Katazhagi songs from Tirunelveli proves the point that raja has not lost his touch. See the kind of beats and the build up of the music that these three songs have....Man why doesn't he come up with this kind of stuff always.

Folks,
Ola Kudisayile is a great number but, it is r-make of "Vaigai nathiourm ponmaalai neram" from "Riksha Mama".
You can try to hum for "Naan irunthamlum..." to "Ehtu andbain megam..." in the later to find the tune similarity.

It sounds fresh, it sounds different but it has created mixed opinions among music lovers. I guess Gnanakoothan has written some songs for heyram. TFM should welcome this great poet. “Isaiyil thondanguthammA, Nee pArthha pArvaikku Nandnri” both are simply mesmerizing me. They could have used SJ or VJ for Tamil instead of asha. Ajay’s voice plays like anything in the air. I feel as if I'm listening some Bharthi song. I won’t be surprised if he gets awards for his outstanding performance. Does the song "Ram ram" traverse towards the terrific last moments of Gandhiji ? I like “Vaishnava janatho” for that voice and Andal Tamil. #1, #2,#4(in my order) Hindi version is excellent. “Pollatha mathana banam sounds good in Hindi.
Generally for high standard historical movies, songs are like sixth fingers. That too in this case raja had been called in the neck of the moments to complete the music just like 'fill in the blanks', but he has created another chapter for his muscial history.

Rama,
You are right, IR is getting back to his traditional style (per Tirunelveli). But he is using electronic instruments, including drums. As somebody speculated he seems to have acquired new synths/samplers.
Going by the trend of songs (some modern sounding, some typical IR style) looks like he has earnestly decided to get busy. This is a welcome sign. Atleast we'll be spared some copycat and substandard stuff from elements going around as MDs these day (Was I too harsh on Deva ? :)).

Is Kadhal Rojave going to be released finally? That is great news as it has some really amazing songs from Raja.Let us hope Raja continues to give more such wonderful compositions this year and in the coming years.

Another new movie from IR:
Title: Kannan varume neram
Director: P.A. Selvaraj
Cast: Satyan, Ranjith, Suvalaxmi
Lyrics: Palanibarathi, Mu.Metha
It is a remake of a big hit malayalam film. According to a dinamani news item, IR has tuned 5 excellent songs for the film.

Neruppu,
'KaNNaa unaith theedukinDReen' enkiRa peyaratiththaan 'kaNNan varum neram' enDRu maaTRiyirukkiRaarkaL.
Some time back I read that this movie has something special on the way songs are tuned. After listening to the story, IR told the director to finish the shooting and then only added the songs in appropriate locations. :-) The same was the case with KM and thus, the producerGaru expects a big HIT again. :-)
Hope the same !

After three years Kathal Rojave is released. That
is amazing. I am listenning to the songs for about
three years until the cassette worn off and I think I need to go to Eat Ham London to get the CD. I tell you the real vintage Raja is Kathal
Rojave.Three years listennig withour getting
bored. This is why people call him Raga Thevan..
please for don't compare this music genious with anybody else. He is simply superb and it is a insult to compare him with others.
Cheers

Though the review is very good I feel it is very less talked about our Maestro, I feel Maestro Ilaiyaraja deserves more detailed appreciation for all the great efforts he has put in.

"It is easier for some fluff, like, say, the music of Hindustani, to become as big a hit in Hindi as it is in Tamil, but that is the sort of mindless music that can find an audience in every idle mind from Kargil to Katchathivu."
I like this guy Saisuresh:-)
Thanks for the link Srinath.

You can also buy the CD and cassette of (the Hindi version of) Hey Ram from Rediff. Although if you are in the US, I suggest you wait, because they charge an astronomical Rs625.00 for shipping (nearly two and a half times the price of the CD)
