1. Moghamul's character had Marathi Lineage and I felt Archana did fit the bill verywell.
2. Kamal!! Yes he is a great actor, but he would have commercialized the film, with kiss scenes (his aging may be causing some insecurities????). Even otherwise he would have overdone that role. Though I don't know much about this Sayaaji character, still I can go expecting some realism.
3. My only request to IR is the male voice should be someone other than Hariharan. He would sing something like 'Sutrum.. (instead of Suttum)' and 'Kandugonden ..(instead of Kandkonden)'. KJY would be best or some Ganeer new voice (SPB had some wonderful Barathi songs in VNS, but still someone else would be nice)
4. I agree Saritha/Rohini's voice would be really good.
Still feel S V Subbiah best suited for this role (kanal therikkum kangal... in Kappol Ottiya Thamizhan)

Balaji,
Hariharan?? Oh No! I am with you here and I have written about his poor rendition of 'Suttum Vizhi' in KKKK. Also his rendering is like 'Nunippul Meyvadu'. AzhuttamE kidayaadhu.
We need someone who knows Tamil well and can render the lyrics perfectly. It could be Yesudas, SPB, JayaChandran, Unni Menon, and may be Rajkumar Bharati or some newcomer from the Carnatic Music world.
I agree S V Subbaiah had 'kanal kaNgal' but don't you think he overdid it? I would like you to take a look at his hand gestures in the song.
And could you tell me who played his wife in the above film? She looked so genuine.
And if I remember correctly, Bharati's end came in his early thirties. I doubt if any of the actors, be it Kamal or SayAji Shinde are young enough to play the role.
From the stills of the new film though, I have reservations about the authenticity of costumes, especially the sarees and blouses worn by the 'MadisAr MAmis'. They seem to have descended straight out of present day Mylapore!
IMO, we need to learn a lot from the West, in creating authentic period settings. Subtle things like adding dirt and grime to sets and having actors wear old, 'washed' clothes and not fresh, crisp new stuff all the time etc. add to the authenticity, I think. And this effort does not have any impact on the budget of the film.
... Guys, I'm sorry for the digression: we are discussing the film here. I know it's IR's thread....

Rajkumar Bharathi is the best choice. He understands his granddad's lyrics. Yesudas, JayaChandran, Unni Menon would have no clue. SPB is overexposed.

55 Million Tamizhians!!!!!!!!!!
Shame we cannot think of one good Tamizh singer to sing our great MahaKavi's songs (Rajkumar Bharathi romba Nunipal Mayvaru..., Hariharan's guru in that regard... Not a good choice IMHO)
Hmm.. Ore Sogam thanga mudiala!!!!!!!!!
Thinking of it, I would be happy if IR ends up singing the songs.(atleast better than all the Haris, Unnis and Srinis)

In the latest AV there is a mention about Vijay Siva's clear pronounciation. But IMHO, his voice is not all that 'GaNeer'.

Read this news. For 'Vande Matharam' Song., IR is introducing a new singer 'Madhu'
http://www.dinakaran.com/daily/apr2000/1/cinema/ilaya.html
I Guess IR will also sing 1 or 2 songs in that movie. Whatever we expect (GaNeerness, Azhuththam and Uchcharippu suththam) from a singer to sing Bharathi's varikaL is there in his voice.
BTW, After listening to Nithyashree Mahadevan's album with Bharathidasan's poems., (Bharathi dhasan Paattaruvi)., I feel Nithyashree is the best choice for the female singer. :-) But I bet IR will give one song to Bhavadharini ;-) (Theeeeeraatha viLayaaattup piLLai) ;-)))))

Thanks for ur comments on my review. Reg. Kaayathiri song, it has late eighties style interludes, esp. the flute bit in the first interlude. that's why i mentioned like that. As you pointed out, all songs have raga base, but Im not sure about that. (Kaayathiri... sounds like SINDHUBAIRAVI, Oor Oora ... sounds like MAYAMAALAVAKOWLAI, may be Srikanth can help us on this). Like you, Im also praying for IR's sound engineering quality. (I guess he has a sentiment about working with his old crew. So only when that ppl have an interest to go for good quality sound engineering, his eternal scores have good place in industry. Same wishes on lyrics too, but both can be done if IR decides to go for the best!)

Visiri, Sabesan,
I read Bala's interview sometime back (don't remember the weekly/daily name) and he has mentioned very clearly that the MD for his next music will be IR/YSR. I think it is at the behest of IR, YSR must be composing for that movie. Nothing to read in between lines.

SJ in the interview to Rediff:
"I came back to Tamil films with Annakkili in which I sang for Ilayaraja. I do not know how many songs I sang for him! After Annakkili, I did not stoped singing for Ilayaraja and it still continues."
But why we do not find any SJ songs in new albums of IR? One longs to hear....

Guys
I am a passive follower of all the discussions that is going on about Maestro in this site. I read an article in rediff today which gives some wrong facts about Raja and i would like you all to write to rediff and and ask them to abstain from publishing such absurd articles. This is what i wrote to them.
Dear Sir
I think it will be a good idea for rediff to thouroughly investigate articles that are written for this website by general junk journalists like this Aarkay.
I am not sure whether he knows something about Illaiyaraja and what he is talking about in this article about Vairamuthu.
FYI, Illaiyaraja and vairamuthu parted around 1986( for their own reasons) and Illaiyaraja has grown in his popularity and creativeness in giving music to the industry to a greater extenent than never before. And also FYI, Illaiyaraja has not just faded away, as is written in the article.
And keep in your mind before writing such articles that you are talking about a person who has done music for around 1000 films, which in itself is an outstanding achievement.
He has been always there and if you have even little music sense, you wouldn't have written such an article. Illaiyaraja is a Phenomenon, a musical genius that India must be proud to have and it will be good for rediff and also journalists to stop writting unwanted and baseless articles on the Maestro.
This is not the first time that some wrong and misleading information has been written in rediff on the Maestro and it is high time that Rediff confirms the facts before publishing.
Thanks
Suresh Rajagopalan

Suresh,
Thanks for writing to rediff about the absurd remarks on IR. When they want to write spicy
things about the Diamondu-ARR feud, why drag
IR into it and that too write dafamatory and
baseless things about him.
I think the quality of the film based articles in rediff has been deteriorating a lot and it
almost resembles any junk magazine replete with
absolute non sense.
Athi
