I would like to know about the tune of kulivaliley song...is it original or copied??? I heard counteless number of times that the bg beat is copied..if it is just bg score that is copied and the tune is original, does that mean a song is copied??? If one extends the argument, every MD repeats their rhythms in every other songs for the upteen years, do you also classify their masterpieces as rehashes/copies. IMO, I am always open to rhythms thats new to me(may be used in some places) instead of listening to same set of rhythms which is often used.

Guys,
If you've listened to the song ""Like A Virgin" by Madonna, I'm pretty sure you'll know the "origin" of the kuluvalile song. Moreover, when it comes to BGM, whenever there's a serious scene or a scene depicting violence, all that ARR does it to make someone shout"Aaahhh.... Aahhh..." with some gamakkams, of course all done digitally.

The ending music in the Kadhalan's song (mukkala mukabhula" is a "ATTA COPY" from Dr.Alban's album !! ARR's BGM is like "practising before the recording or like tuning your intruments before the "kutcheri" !!

ARR's statement that he has not listened to IR's music at all is absurd. how can someone who had been playing keyboard for IR's songs for a few years not have heard his songs. it seems ARR helped IR too in 'computer synthesizing' a song for punnagai mannan. definitely he has been influenced by IR's music. he also said that he liked 'inji iduppazhagi' from devar magan. his statements always contradict each other.
by far he has never come out with a strong and conclusive statement about what he thinks about IR's music.

aruvi,
I dont know, why we except ARR to say everytime about IR and others. Even the reports, when they interview other film personalities, often ask stupid questions like ARR or IR?, recently actor vijay was caught on that. It is humanly possible for ARR or others to score music in TFM, with out
being influenced by IR or others.

easwaran,
i do not think that's possible. if u read srirangam lakshminarayan's article, i don't remeber which one, he has criticised this attitude of ARR and has openly challenged him to compose music without any of his predecessor's influence. the fact is ARR has been deeply influenced by many of his predecessors which would include definitely MSV and IR, IMO, and for some reason or the other he does not want to accept it.
and i do care about this because the media always hypes up rahman to be very humble and all that.

thanks vijay for the URL. i got what i had been missing all along. i wanted an in-depth analysis of the ragas used in cine music, how the grammer is customized to suit the tastes of the public, all that!! the author seems to be very knowledgable. he has discussed all the nuances of carnatic music as used in cine music.
the challenge that u had mentioned looked more like he was saying that composing music without the influence of ur forefathers is impossible even if u lock urself from the outside world. at the end of the last article, he has pounced on the attitude of IR towards his competitors and colleagues. rather philosophical at the end.
anyways, have fun,

Let us not forget IR & his children also say that
they do not/ haven't heard any Rahman songs. Karthik raja went as far as to saying he had never heard a ARR song! You can only laugh so many times. Listen to the lyrics IR sang in that 'cinema' song. .'.....cut out .....markettu eranthu ponal get out sollum cinema'. Prophetic ?

Raju: KR never said he did not hear ARR's "work". In fact he clearly stated (in Filmfare or Hindu) that Roja had a deep imact on him. Also, YSR's favorite songs include Kadhal Rojave from Roja - he said this in a TV interview.
So don't make baseless statements.

Each MD has his own way of composing music. IR is a genius, no doubt and no comparisons. But ARR is unique in his own style. As IR said, "Isai oru yemaathu velai... irukkura 7 swaratha vera vera maadhiri combine pannidhaan music poda vendi irukku. adhula sila tune ore maadhiri irukkum. adha thavirka mudiyaadhu". I know the combination of the 7 swarams are numerous. But sometimes, if used wrongly, they can lead to 'abaswaram'. Even then, sometimes, we get similar music. ARR need not be bashed. He is too good a music director.

why should we bash arr when he has achieved so much in a short span, he is good in his own way
by this we are bruising arr fan's hearts.

ratchagan:
Is it ok to have an entire forum to bash someone ? Is it OK to bruise IR fans' hearts ? ARR fans in here cannot praise ARR without trying to put down IR. What IR has achieved overshadows ARR in every which way. This thread was actually strarted to counter ARR bashers. Perhaps you ought to go back to the first posting and see.

Hey Srinath,
Well said. It's no see-saw game: To praise someone, one need not pull-down the other.

PS: I wishfully wish I knew the average age-group of the IR bashers! It will then be quite easy to arrive at 'some' conclusions! And THAT will ensure me inner peace:)

that's when they will be obstinate to change themselves to the existing trend

truth truth truth truth truth truth:
IMHO, only a person silly enough to call himself "truth truth truth truth truth truth" is obstinate. Can't you see how immature you come across ? People will laugh at you for posting like this ! ARR is a very talented musician, but still not good enough to be called a genius. IR is a genius. Argue this with rational postings. Would you call your 'daddy' or 'mummy' obstinate ? See, that is very bad manners. They are older to you and KNOW more than you do. Wait till you get to be that age and only then you will understand the wisdom behind their words. Till then you will be under the mistaken impression that ARR is a good music director. I do not blame you. But please think twice before shouting at your elders. OK ? Now be a good boy.

Thaatha, (I think it is Srinath),
What you said was 100% correct. Elders will definitely have more experience than the youngsters. But, IMO, each person has his own taste and he feels that his favourite MD is the best. There is nothing wrong in an IR fan saying that IR is a genius and he may even go to the extent of saying that IR has better knowledge in music than, even, Mozart. It is his opinion. Similarly, an IR fan should understand that an ARR fan will be under the opinion that ARR is the best. That is his opinion. Why should one unnecessarily bash another person's favourite? ARR is a talented musician and not that he is good enough to be called a genius. He is not EXPERIENCED enough to be called a genius. IR was called "Isaignani" after more than 10 years in the industry. It has been hardly 8 years since ARR came to the field and he has composed music for less films than IR.
There is no point in saying IR is better than ARR. Definitely, an ARR fan is not going to accept it. No matter, who accepts it or not, it will raise hard feelings and frequent clashes and bashes. An ideal senior, should be mature enough, to give way to juniors. Periyavanga dhaanga chinnavangalukku vittu kodukkanum. Not the vice versa. That is the only way to stop this 'never-ending' quarrel.
What to do? The younger generation likes ARR more than IR. That is a fact and that doesn't mean that ARR is better than IR.
