S. J. SURYAH'S HOLD over the Tamil box-office is simply amazing. Four years after the release of "Kushi", a blockbuster, the director has turned hero with "New". The film has taken a fantastic opening all over Tamil Nadu to the surprise of the trade, as two months back, its bilingual in Telugu ("Naani") went without a trace. This in fact created distribution problems for "New", and later, the regional censor board also effected major visual and dialogue cuts. But Surya was optimistic and went ahead to release the film in 117 screens in Tamil Nadu where the opening day collection crossed Rs. 1 crore! Said Surya: "`New' is turning out to be a mega hit and the very same industry pundits who had written off the film before its release are saying that it will do better business than `Ghillli'."

Sumathy, I agree with you that such crude movies do more harm and pose women at risk of being harassed.The current crop of tamil directors are just not intelligent enuff to handle crime and sex subjects. Let them just stick to love, love and more lollypop love stories.
new is a mindless movie made by a mindless director for the mindless . This movie only serves the purpose of kindling the nasic instincts of vedalai pasanga. surya should learn a costly lesson.

jackie : it is not fair..if you like arrahman's music enjoy it in cassette..a.r.rahman's music is not a reason to support any kind of movies in my humble opinion..same to Paran...
women association have their own reasons to protest..they have a right to show their protest..afterall in a world where doctors can protest against the title of a name , nowhere near mocking them, lawyers can protest against a judge whom they dont like personally, students can protest against college management for no reasons....why shudnt women association protest against a movie that shows them in a obscene way.... but of course you cant help it...every movies are like that, every advertisements are like that..............

I'm not supporting this movie cuz its got music by ARR, Enaku life-la evalo tension padathuku ponen sirichen, vanthen.
Thats all, i even support movies like Pammal, Panchatantiram even if its from Kamal.
Any product has its market, so i see no reason why certain sect should protest to ban it if thats not their taste!
Where were these women organizations when a few ladies in UP were paraded naked and raped as a verdict from Panchayat.
Doesn't such things affect the sensiblities of a womanhood?

but's it's no harm...everyone has their own right to point out their view...
a movie is a director point of view...or opinion...
u have a choice to watch or not to watch it...
mmm...that's the reason why artiste like Marilyn Manson are there....he is potraying his opinion on Anti-Christ through his music and lyrics...u dun see any association go against the release of his albums....as simple as that...if u dun like it....then simply ignore it....

i think NEW is a wonderful movie, where else can u c both tamil movie glamour dolls in one movie plus, it is something different than other tamil movies. As long as tamil movies such as BOYS,NEW,THULLUVUDHO ILLIMAI exsist tamil film industry will sure rise to audience's perception.

New, Boys are aberration for today's youth. In Boys shankar supports those wayward youths misbehaving with women and in New also women are shown as crass, dumb and some stupid youth think this is what women want. Even my mother was not spared when she went for shopping at ranganathan street. She felt insulted and she was afraid to send me for job alone at Bangalore . jacky, naming some stupid films is not going to save New or white wash New. I request all women to boycott this crap and punish surya like how my friends in 'Mindtree' have done.
