Today there are life threats to music composers. What will happen to the great country if ARR is missing from the music scene? I am getting very anxious. On the positive side, do you think old music will become popular once again?

In what way a better place. What if, ARR has not entered into TFM at all. The title question I assume if he is absent from his presence right now. Again, what if ARR has not entered into TFM at all.

What i tried to say was that tamil songs became popular all over india only after ARR. I think this is 1 of the aspect which makes ARR a better MD.
I hope atleast this makes some sense...since this is clearly what i implied in my earlier posting.

onnum kudi muzhugi poidaathu India without ARR. Things will go on as usual. wake up guys...TFM may or maynot miss HIM but definitely not India...adutha vela sothukkae vazhi illamae thindaadhikittu irukudhu thainaadu adhukku varuthapadratha vuttutu ennappa topic idhu...really a pity !!!

HUMPTY,
Being popular thro'out India doesn't make a guy better MD. Acc to ur theory anumalik and anand milind shud be the best MDs and govinda the best actor and daler mehendi the best singer (he's more popular than SPB and KJY :-))) ).
Do u mean to say Rajnikant is a better actor just bcos he's more popular than kamal ????
The same is the case with arr and raja.

read properly...I said..it is 1 aspect...not the only aspect...:-)))
Well most of my northy friends did not know abt tamil music..until ARR became popular..I agree with you that it does not mean much...but to make a layman get interested in songs other than his mother tongue is an effort worthy of appreciation.
remember some1 saying:
IR brought back the tamil audience.(when there was a slack and ppl started to listen more of hindi songs)
ARR brought even non-tamil audience.(when ppl were already mesmerized by IR's music)
I think both of them deserve credits for their efforts.

"Do u mean to say Rajnikant is a better actor just bcos he's more popular than kamal ???? "
--- Shanker why start another trouble,
Rajini is still in the #1 position, for almost 15 yrs now --- this cannot be of mere luck, he has some charisma among people of all ages.,
Try some other example, this is what I don't like with IR fans, why degrade other for the sake of IR.

Answering the title and HUMPTY -
North Indians would not have listened to TFM - Good - no big loss to me ! Paraphrasing Heisenberg, when HFM listeners start listening to TFM, they are going to influence it and their tastes are also going to be reflected on TFM - example, "Jodi" which some people here claim sounds more like HFM than TFM. Of course, I haven't listened to it, and nor do I intend to. But that's my preference - I shall listen to what I like, as opposed to listening to something just because it might hurt someone's feelings not to do so. This also applies to other new TFM MDs and to a very, very limited extent to IR.
IR gave an individuality to TFM. ARR made it common ground for everybody. Some like this change, some don't. I don't. I think of it as demeaning to lower my tastes to accomodate someone else's !
Srikanth, I am not degrading ARR, but I don't like his music and hence I do not have a good opinion of it. Of late, I was able to appreciate "Chaiyya, Chaiyya" because it was a punchy song and unlike other HCIRFs, I appreciated the way Sukhwinder Singh sang it. But these songs are not the ones that I like and so I cannot listen to them regularly. The effort is good. The output, sorry, IMO no.

well, there is no doubt ARR, has brought tamil music into limelight, but the fact i want to tell here is, the instruments domination is more than the Lyrics.
Also now a days the songs are really not "POETIC", they are in "VASANAM" ( By Vairamuthu).

I do not agree that it is demeaning. What is wrong in having a common ground for music?? What is wrong with having RAP, POP, JAZZ .... versions in tamil music. I am also inclined to believe that still all diff kinds of folk songs hold their place in tfm and so does carnatic music. tfm should and is a medley of different forms of music..it is up to the listener to choose what he likes and listen to it...It is sheer narrowmindedness to say that it should contain only certain class of songs.
JODI sounds hindish coz it is tamil version of the hindi songs. I am not taking sides here i am just making a point that the fact that non tfm audience like to hear tamil songs is an effort by an MD which is worthy of appreciation. May be it is a good sign.
I don't understand how IR brought indivuduality..does that mean there is no western influence in his songs??..May be ARR's music will bring another indivuduality..a diff kind..to TFM.
It is not that i do not understand the greatness of IR..but seems some ppl here tend to undermine other MD's effort just to make IR sit pretty.
