Hmmmm.....does Roja's chinna chinna asai sound like it came from KV Mahadevan's influence? Does it sound like its from MSV? Or Naushad? Or S.Jaikishen? Or S.Chowdoury? Or Michael Jackson or Brian May of Queen? Or Peter, Paul & Mary's X'mas collection or Rogers & Hammerstein songs? Or from Bappi Lahiri or Lax-Pyr?
I mean it definitely din sound original. Or does it sound it came from IR's mould? Hmmm....

Did IR invent the tabla?
Or did he discover music?
Or is he the sole proprietor of violins?
Or does violin orchestration belong to him?
Was IR MSV's father and guru?
Did he teach MKT how to sing?
Was he the first one to intriduce Tamil songs to the audience?
Is he the one who wrote Sunny I love you first?
Or was he the first one to sing Chittukkuruvi vetkkapaduthu?
Hmmm. mysteries...

News on IR's Julie Ganapathy by Balu Mahendra.
Balu Mahendra says, "A music director attempting to compose for films should not only be competent in scoring music, but should also know the demands of the medium. Ilaya Raaja is an expert on both counts. His music has always given a new dimension to all my films.
The movie in which Sarita plays the character of 'Julie Ganapathy' also stars Ramya Krishnan and Jayaram. The director calls it "a Suspense Thriller.. and also a violent love story".

It's been a while since we had IR scoring for Balu Mahendra. Will it be a sumptuous feast?

Seems like IR would be doing Ramana's Telugu version too. IR will be working with Chiranjeevi after a long gap.

Found this in quiznet. There might be a couple of interesting qns.
1. The song “Chandni Raat” from the 1989 Salman Khan starrer Baazi, was a straight rip off of this Ilayaraja song from the Raghu -Geeta starrer Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal. The original tamil song from Puthu Puthu Arthangal was the title of this particular movie which contained a melodious score by Raja. Though all songs were excellent in this movie, this particular song by SP stands out among my favorite Ilayaraja scores. No one could have done this song except the master himself. Name the movie and this particular song in that movie.
2. Raja had a long and successful association with Balu Mahendra scoring the music for all his movies right from Moonram Pirai to Sati Leelavathi. Which movie directed by Balu Mahendra didn’t have any songs in it, but was supplemented by an excellent background score by Ilayaraja?( Matter of fact Ilaya’s BGM’s are masterpieces by themselves)
3. One of the best musical scores in recent times has been “Bharati” by Ilayaraja. Only the master could have bought life to the poems of Subramanyam Bharati. The song in the movie “Kelada Maridava” was sung by one of Bharati’s grandsons himself. Name the singer. I need the full name.
4. The song “Om Namaha” from the Telugu movie
Gitanjali( Idayathe Tirudathe in Tamil), is again one of the best scores of Raja. The song has a continuous rhythm throughout, much like the heart beat of a human being. Name the raga in which this song was composed.
5. Ilayaraja had this tendency to create music from natural sounds, the gurgling of a stream, the chirping of a bird, the sound of an engine. The interlude to this song, contains no music just the sound of the footfalls of the hero and heroine, jogging together, the birds chirping in the background. This movie was released in Tamil and later dubbed in Telugu also. Name the song and the movie(either Telugu or Tamil version). If you are an IR fan u shouldn’t be missing this song.
6. After listening to this budding female singer’s voice Ilayaraja told her “ Now you don’t have to go back to Kerala. Stay here, I will give you many film songs”. He gave this girl a break in the film “Meera” composed by him. She however shot to fame with another song in an equally famous movie. Name the song and the singer.( Giving the movie or song would be a dead give a away)
7. Apart from folk and Carnatic, Ilayaraja is an
equal master at the Western classical. When he went for his first audition in 1968 , he played this famous Western classical piece on his harmonium, made famous by a movie. Name this piece.
8. The opening lyrics of this song were actually a well from a famous Thyagaraya composition in Mohana. Ilayaraja set this against a western backdrop, with beat predominating. Name the song and the movie(again Telugu or Tamil version would do).
9. Vamsy was again one director with whom Ilayaraja had a successful partnership with all the movies in their combination being musical hits. One of their earliest and best scores was for the thriller Anveshana(1985) which had a superb background score by Ilayaraja. The tune for one of the songs in this movie Ilalo Kalise by S.Janaki was recycled by IR for this song from the movie Abhinandana(1986), which remains an excellent pathos song. Identify the song.
10. One of Ilayaraja's best scores was for Mouna
Raagam directed by Mani Ratnam. Apart from the
excellent songs in the movie, the background score was as usual outstanding. This was an excellent adaptation of the theme song for this English movie by Giorgio Moroder. Name this English movie.
11.Ilayaraja's 3rd national award was for the Telugu movie Rudraveena in 1987 directed by K.Balachander. One of the best songs in this movie is "Tarali Raada Tane Vasantam" which is held up as a perfect example of the usage of this particular raaga. Which raaga did IR use for this song?
12. Ilayaraja again teamed up with Kamal Hassan for Hey Ram in 2000 and as usual came up with an
outstanding score. Who was the original music director for that movie who later had a fall out with Kamal.

Happened to watch Kaakai Siraginile ..starring Parthiban and music by IR. The songs and BGM were beautiful - weaved so well with the story .. infact the movie itself was not bad and it was quite a surprise for me as i was expecting a totally junk flick as the title read Direction by P.Vasu :-)..The lyrics by RV Udayakumar were very good as well except one song.
IR has, in his characteristic way, used the "Paadi thirintha kili .." towards the closing part of the movie for BGM and it is done so well.. the song itself is a great number ( SPB )
not sure if this movie ever saw daylight and how many people noticed the BGM.
Also saw SMK - the BGM was good but not to Azhagi's level..has once again used a sort of pathos version of Etho Onnu ..but it is kind of hard to make out at places .. but nothing spectacular as i expected for a Thangar movie. but then i was watching a $1 pirated rental and the audio quality was so so..
Enjoy
