The first thing that came to my mind when I saw KSC & KK comparisn was that it was unfair. This I think anyone can judge. My vote goes to KSC. I will announce the result on 7th July 2002 based on the max no of votes

my dear friend Ashish, before commenting on any topic, kindly recheck yourself.for your kindest information, during the occasion of latajis 75th birthday,a TV show was conducted un which alka yagnik and abhijeet were hosts and spoke about latajis journey as a singer.since both had already contributed to the event, both alkaji and abhijeet didnt perform any song on the stage.and by the way if lataji hadnt invited alkaji ,would she have been seated un the audience during the event.BY THE WAY,LATAJI HAS HERSELF ONCE CALLED ALKAJI AS HER SUCCESSOR.

app_engine,
appdadi podunga!
Bollywood singers are not able to make 1% in the south while south singers like KJY and Chitra has sung mindblowing songs in Hindi. Even the great Lataji was not able to make hits in south india!. How many South indian songs the Legend Rafi Sahab has sung?.
Chitra is the best. Alka is a very good singer, but lacks behind chitra in versatility.

Why the heck someone bringing the topic of south and north. Did alka sung any of the south Indian songs? If so, how many?
One can argue saying that she is busy with bollywood but in the bollywood there is only one language (hindi) and count the number of movies per year and how many she sings?
But come to south there are four different languages each having it's own different audience. These is the dividing line between alka and chithra.
Chithra sings in all these languages including bollywood. At one point of time she was a common singer in all these languages.
But one can never get a feel that she is from south and from kerala.
Chithra has got best voice. Simply superb. Her way of pronouncing the words is absolutely amazing.
I would say it will be foolish to compare chithra with any other singer.
Chithra is the best ever before and ever after I can say.

BB,
Is there any way to make sure that names are not used by others. I am tired of the other 'Aruvi'. I can see the person is trying to pull a joke, as I am known to be a great chithra admirer, but this has gone a bit too far. Can't keep coming to my own rescue all the time.
Sanjeet Bose,
The original Aruvi, me, is a crazy fan of Chithra. I went to the extent of writing a huge essay, as most old forumers know, as to why she is great:-) I don't know about any such song, because I rarely listen to hindi music. I didn't even know alka Y. is a trained singer, as everything I have heard from her are filmy. You can try a search on google though.

I am the original Aruvi here. BB please ensure that the imposter is taken care of. I am really tired of this 'stealing handle' business. Chitra is the most monotonous singer one would ever find. Alkaji is truly what greatness is all about.

I think KS Chitra is better. Though I am a Malayalee, and so is she, that isnt y. She has the ability to sing beautifully in various languages like Malayalam and Hindi. I havent seen Alka sing anything in any otherlanguage, just Hindi. Chitra has that remarkable Capability.

Hello friends,
Chitra can sing even without orchestra (I have heard her live, singing without orchestra). Her voice is so sweet. She has fine pronunciation that helps her to sing in as many as 14 languages. I would grade her as good as maestros like Rafi, Lata, KJY......
and definitely better than Alka Yagnik.

The distinction of being awarded the best playback singer in all the four south indian states, itself speaks volumes about KS Chitra's singing talents. I think no one artiste has ever been able to leap boundaries in musical versatility and lyrical-dialect mastery as well as KSC. She is gem of an artiste and a humble human being. God Bless Her

Sooraj, very true! More than a good singer, I think she is a very humble, down-to-earth human being. Maybe thatz why she has been blessed with such a voice.

Alka is simply wonderful, sweet with a heart-melting voice. Nowadays one of my favorites of her is Aaj To Madhur Milan Ho Ga from Market. She sounds so sweet when she says lyrics like khilne lagi hai chehre ki rawani, dulhe ki har dadhkan hai deewani. I love your voice Alka Yagnik. Keep it up!!!!
