MANI OR SHANKER gets teh best out of ARR?

In my opinion Shanker gets teh best out of ARR than MANI. ARR albums of Shamker movies are well accepted by all of INIDA. ANy opinions?

  I think ARR and ManiRatnam have similar work style. That is why they gel together. Both are yuppie of sorts, inspired by comtemporary western culture. They are very urbane and so will be favored by the city slickers. The growing middle-class in India makes up the bulk of their market.

  A minor digressing!!Which director has made AR Rehaman repent? IT IS KBalachandar.That man succesfully killed Rehman's best score.Next Mani made a great attempt to kill, with Iruvar.I think Rehman understood the period effect more than Mani.The songs really brought the late 50's and 60's mood.but the picturisation was appalling.
  
  Shankar and Rehman think virtually on the same line.They make a honest attempt together to give the best.Imagine Thiruda Thiruda songs under shankar's picturisation.With PC/Jeeva ,sundaram Shankar would have made wonders.

  When you talk about ARR-Shankar, its all modern movies they made. So any pop music/albums will do. But for period movies you need lots of imagination. Iruvar has good songs but I don't think they are fit to be called period songs (though VM contributed a lot more than music). Naayagan reminds me of the period music. When you say KB/MR killed ARR's music, they did the same to IR. See how MR handled Thalapathi and KB (excepting Sindhu Bairavi which does not need a great picturisation). You can't expect a best support from Directors/cameraman to support your music. In fact music should be good alone. Your posting tells me onething. ARR's music goes good only with Shankar or someone with good picturisation. If ARR's songs are given the same treatment as of IR, he would have gone long back.

  My Vote is for Shankar any time. His picturisation is way better than Manirathnam. 1. 1.E.g, Telephone Mani Pol -- The song is not wasted even in one single shot.Every Shot Shankar shot for this song turned out to be fantastic
  2. Poovukul Ollithirukum - Jeans
  3. Anbe Anbe -- Jeans, this is a very ordinary song picturised very well by Shankar. The set arrangements, costumes, dancing, everything is very very creative.

  The director gives the concept.It is important that the MD should visualize the song in the same wave length as that of the director.In that context i think after Bhimsingh-MSV/TKR and Sridhar/MSV-TKR ,only Shankar and Rehman have matched as a team.Raja and songs suffered due to poor quality directors.This includes Mani rathnam and Balachander ,the pretenders.Raja would have composed a symphony and KB would have still written it on the black board and Mani would have picturised it in a rain sequence with Paatigal.
  
  But today shankar has the best width when it comes to visualizing and picturising the song.Rehman ,largely influenced by western pictutisation just matches shankar's thoughts.
  
  Konjam Nilavu,Thee Thee,Aaiyrathil Naan oruvan expose Mani's imagination or the lack of it.But look at Pachai Kiligal from Indian.
  
  Even Vasanth is mile ahead of Mani when it comes to 'Team forming with MD".Prob. Vasanth is the closest to Shankar in that race.(Or is Vasanth better because he had got the best out of Raja, Maragathamani,Deva and now Rehman)

  I suggest you listen to Iruvar again. Coz its the best music ever. The spectrum of the ages are so nicely captured. Sandhya's "Poo Kodiyin Punnagai" is an absolutely amazing song. My parents thought that it was actually Sushila. Another example is "En Swase Katre". The music was just out of this world. But look at the picturisation. Still, it was a very popular album. You seem to be an IR fan. If you want ARR to give the kind of music IR gave for Hey Ram, I am glad ARR is nothing like IR. That is one movie that could have been given a crackerjack score, but IR totally muffed it up.

  I would go with MR anyday. Whats the point in draining lacs and crores in songs if no one remembers your movie after two years. Overall movie is more impt and mani just gives what is required for a song.Shankar ends up with a overdose (like a first time gui developer).
  Without wasting money , mani still stands out.
  
  Look at "idayattai tirudaadey" picturization. Clearly stands out from movies of that period.
  Also see cinematography pre and post Roja. You will notice a big change. This was the time when bollywood was openly admiring the technical brilliance of south.
  A prominent person in kannada industry said : "what others have not been able to achieve shooting in foreign locs, mani has been able to achieve just shooting in india".
  
  Anyway, mani uses the background only as a canvas. The real focus is on the person/characteristic something that toches the viewer "dil sey".

  Mani brings best out of ARR than Shankar. Mani also does not exaggerate the songs as Shankar does. Mani is a secure person who knows what he wants from ARR and does not rely solely on Rahman. Shankar without Rahman is hard to think of. Mostly, he does not have strong storyline, just bits and pieces and music is one of the main things in his movie to be a success.

  2.Thiruda Thiruda v/s Kadhalan
  3.Bombay v/s Indian
  4.Iruvar v/s Jeans
  5.Alaipauthey v/s Mudhalvan
  6.kannathil Muthamittal v/s Boys
  
  amazing isn't it they have worked for the same number of movies........ i think in that list only "Boys" is a better score than a mani movie.........

  IR gave splendid music in Hey Ram and everybody knows about it. Had you told his some other album, I would admit it. But not Hey Ram.
  
  Remember, it was a serious movie and it can't have popular score. He just gave what that movie demands. His BGM was fantastic in that movie by all standards. Also given that movie songs was done by LS, with that same lip movement underlying music was changed, it has IR genius all over it. Even ARR may not accept your statement.
  
  Iruvar had good music too in songs. BGM, not that great.

  Imagine it:
  1)Kadhal Rojave from Roja.
  2)Pudhu Vellai malai from Roja
  3)Puthum puthu bhoomi from Thiruda thiruda
  4)Kannalaane from Bombay
  5)Chaiya chaiya from Uyire
  6)Pachai nirame from Alaipayuthey
  7)Snehithanae from Alaipayuthey
  7)Deivam thantha poove from KM
  
  and many more..Mani has more aesthetic sense than Shankar..Mani is the best director ever!!

  i think both mani & shankar are different when it comes to songs.Both of them have very good taste.
  But when it comes to picturisation Shankar is better. Eg: Alle alle from Boys.

  shanker & mani have their own styles.So I personally feel that it is quite absurd to compare who utilises A.R.R the best.The success of a film depends solely on the story and the hero who enacts it.In my conception music is just an added advantage.
